Dynasty Player Valuation/Trade Compensation Q (1 Viewer)

I'm new to dynasty and am now trying to load up for the playoffs.

I am currently in first in a 12 teamer (SF, PPR) and have a 1st round bye locked up. I'm now kicking the tires on players that teams who are out of it might be open to unloading.

The first owner to respond said that potentially James Conner or McLauren could be available. I have no idea what level of draft compensation would be good for guys like this. What's a god resource for that? I don't know if a late first is too much for these guys, especially Conner at his age. How do you go about valuing these guys? @Gally

I would think Connors is late 2nd/early 3rd

McLaurin is 1st for sure. He got traded in my league for James Cook, late 25 2nd, 26 2nd but think the other team did great. They turned around and traded Cook and 25 2nd for Rhamondre Stevenson, Jaylen Waddle, Jalen Thompson.

Valuations are difficult as a each situation is different based on circumstance, keeper rules, and your leaguemates.

For example, if it's salary based Conner at $50 is different than him at $5. It also matters if you can only keep a guy for so long. Can you keep McLaurin forever or for one more year?

What are you trying to accomplish with getting these guys? Do they put you over the top for the title or is this to replenish your roster?

All of those things matter. In general, Conner is older so his long term value isn't very high. If you acquire him you likely won't get much in the future if you want to move him. Older backs fall of a cliff with respect to value. So unless Conner puts you in a great spot to win the title he probably isn't worth aquiring. If he does put you over the top giving up a late first is probably worth it.

McLaurin is a bit different. WR's tend to hold value better and he seems to be ascending with Daniels. Depending on your keeper rules he is worth a mid 1st for sure (IMO).

I also value picks a lot different than most dynasty players. I look at 2 yr windows where most look at 3-5 yr windows. I just think things change to quick to value things over 2 yrs. I also rather use picks for players I have seen perform in the NFL. Rookies are a crapshoot. They hit at less than 50% in most cases. So I would rather use the picks to acquire known players. Most other dynasty players treat picks like gold so I try and use that to my advantage.

Hopefully that helps some. Bottom line is there is no set value. Have fun with it and don't be afraid to pull the trigger.

This is traditional dynasty. No salaries. I want to take advantage of my upcoming bye and make a run for the championship this year.

My current starters are:

QB: Lamar
SFlex: Nix/Purdy
RB: Cook
RB: Mixon
WR: DK
WR: D Smith
WR: Sutton
TE: LaPorta
F: Jonnu (TE premium)
F: Ridley
F: Hunt/Bigsby

It doesn't look so great, but it's earned the top seed in the playoffs in this league somehow. I have room for that last flex spot for any position, really. Now that Pacheco is back, I don't really have a 3rd RB either.

I might offer a 1st and 3rd for both of them.
