Dynasty Pre-Draft Cuts/Trades (1 Viewer)

I need to make final cuts before the deadline with our upcoming auction draft. The salaries of the players go up each year based on performance and current cost, so I'm looking to have the best team I can this year while keeping in mind the future since this is a fully dynasty team and we can keep everyone. This team was under the salary cap last year but with the increase in salary is now well over it.

League: 12 team, $200 salary cap dynasty 0.5 PPR league, start 1QB, 1RB, 2WR, 1TE, 1FLEX (RB/WR/TE), 1D, 1K, 15min - 17max roster.

I can also try to trade players now, so any suggestions of that nature would be appreciated too (like trade x and y for a RB).

Who would you cut from the following before the draft?

QB - Bortles ($11), Palmer ($10), Garoppolo ($3)
RB - L. Miller ($27), David Johnson ($25), L. Murray ($17), Perkins ($3)
WR - Julio ($39), Cooks ($21), Evans ($21), Allen Robinson ($15), Watkins ($11), Parker ($7)
TE - Olsen ($21), Eifert ($9)

I would cut Bortles and Murray.  Bortles sucks and since you start 1 QB you should be able to get a QB in the draft.  I would cut Murray because his role should be complementary at best with Cook on board and his price is too high for his projected performance.  He shouldn't cost as much as guys like Robinson and Parker, let alone more.

So it appears you are $40 over the cap at the moment.  What are some of the typical salary cap space that people have going into the auction?  Also, what are some of the tiered prices that other players are at around the league?  It seems like Olsen may be a bit overpriced based on some of the prices you have at other positions.  Same with Lamar Miller.

What are the chances of getting some good deals if you kept only:

QB - Garoppolo ($3)
RB - David Johnson ($25), Perkins ($3)
WR - Julio ($39) Evans ($21) Parker ($7)
TE - Eifert ($9)

That would leave you with $93 in cap space.  Would you be able to get some of those guys back at bargain prices?  Is throwing Julio back in hopes of getting him back cheaper worthwhile?

Without knowing what typical cap space for each team will be and what kind of players will be available in the auction it makes it difficult to decide what direction to go.

Great questions, let me try to paint a better picture.  The majority of owners will probably end up with around $50 - $75 in cap space, but there are always one or two that drop most of the team and will have $125+ so they can spend high on the best guys.  I don't think I could get Julio cheaper if I dropped him, but guys like Watkins and Robinson would probably go around the same or a little more possibly.  I try to trade and people will say they don't like the salary, but most of the time when I drop a guy like Watkins and the end up going for more in the auction unless it's an obvious overpriced salary increase or the situation changes (like Murray).  Top rookie options usually go for over $30 now.

Some comparative prices that haven't been dropped yet:

QB:  Luck ($37), Rogers ($39), Brees ($33)
RB:  Bell ($51), Elliot ($47)
WR: Brown ($37), Dez ($37), Green ($41)
TE:  Gronk ($27)

There are guys like QB Taylor ($12) and QB Cousins ($11) and QB Winston ($10) that I could target with a trade, but it seems like pulling teeth sometimes to get an answer on a trade offer.  I could probably swap for one of those guys for Cooks (actually had Taylor offered for him yesterday) if something like that made sense.

How would all this info affect your answer?

I think I would go with the keepers as I listed and have $93 available in cap space.  If you can trade Cooks for Cousins or Winston I would do that but I am not that high on Taylor.  Based on the average team having $50-$75 available you should be in a nice position to hand pick some decent deals and really improve at QB and get some RB depth.

The only hesitation I would have in going with this plan would be not knowing the caliber of talent that will be in the auction.  If there will be similar talent to what you would be dropping then I would do it for sure.  If  your drops would be the cream of the auction crop then maybe I would keep Miller (especially if RB options are slim) and possible A-Rob or Watkins (Cooks seems too high priced when coupled with the WR's you already have).

Hope this helps.  Good Luck.

I'd probably start over at QB, try to trade everyone, but if no takers I'd dump all 3. Likely could get all of them back cheaper if you wanted.

At RB, Murray is a trade or dump. Johnson, Miller(though slightly overpriced) and Perkins are keeps.

At WR, I'd be looking to trade Cooks and Parker, they are priced fairly and should have takers. Just feel they are depth you don't need, especially with how cheap you have Watkins for.

At TE, Olsen is overpriced, no real ways around it. Eifert is fairly priced and a solid keeper.

Maybe you could deal Cooks or Parker or Olsen in some deal for a QB or another RB. If you have to let them go, that leaves you with $50 to get another starter quality RB, a QB and some cheap depth.

Thanks for the input.  Everyone has helped a lot.
