Who is #4?

If you vote other, please specify.

Also, please comment on your vote, and list any player that should be nominated for the next round.

I'm adding Reggie Bush into the mix here.

Guys, I'd greatly appreciate, if you vote "other", to specify.

TIA
I voted for Edge.Until he changes teams, or until he starts falling off the face of the earth, he's still a top 3 back in fantasy, at least. That makes him a top 5 back in dynasty, especially since I feel he has 2-3 years left, easily.

Voting for anyone else at this juncture seemed to be a reach for me. So for me, it's the tried and true, safe pick, and that's Edge.

Can anyone clarify why Edge is deemed to be the 4th most valuable dynasty RB despite the fact that he is unlikely to be a Colt next season and has a whole lot of tread on his tracks? Do you think he's worth the #4 slot if he goes to Arizona?

I'd take any of the next 5 in the original poll over Edge - given that this we are talking DYNASTY and Edge is:a) old and worn-downb) unlikely to be a Colt next yearHere are the next five:5 - Steven Jackson St. Louis Rams6 - Willis McGahee Buffalo Bills7 - Clinton Portis, Washington Redskins8 - Lamont Jordan, Oakland Raiders9 - Caddillac Williams Tampa Bay Bucs

You can only make rankings based on what we know now. As of now he's with Indy.

Remember, this was November. More people believed he was coming back to Indy then. Also, Portis looked better the last few weeks and is IMO #4 now.

I agree that we can only make rankings based on what we know now. But what we know now is that Indianapolis appear likely to franchise Reggie Wayne and not to re-sign James. Where does that leave James? Not the #4 dynasty back, that's for sure.

I think this is premature. He still do not know if Edge is leaving Indy. Secondly, there are some places where his ranking would not go down much, if at all.

Rumors of Edge to Jax would not be bad for Edge. At least he might get the goal lone carries instead of the Manning to Wayne/Harrison fade.

Also, what happens if he ends up in NE or ATL or Den or Philly? He could to some place that we have not considered.

I think you have a decent argument, but not until we know where he is going, if not staying in Indy.

FWIW, these will be redone at a later date. Maybe not as full-blown (it's taking 3 months), but enough to modify and see who the movers are.

The point is simple - because Edge's status is uncertain, he should not be ranked as highly as he is. Until we know where he'll be playing next year, he doesn't merit to be ranked before players whose values are more secure.

But, at the same time you omit the fact that 3 of the five you say should/could be over Edge will have new coaches and probably new offenses. Do you not think this should be taken into account too?

Yes, including the fact that Portis now gets Al Saunders. This bumps him up (also Cooley FWIW)

No, if he leaves Indy he would drop down my list pretty significantly, how much depends on where he ends up.

My point is/was that it is premature to have this discussion now. I do not disagree that it could be Portis. But, in no way is Willis #4 - that is insane.

If Edge stays in Indy, he is not out of the top 5 and all would agree. So, talking about it now is premature.

Sure. But there is less uncertainty involved in a new coach than in a new team. Particularly given the fact that several of those coaching changes could be for the positive - eg Al Saunders taking over the Redskins offense.Bottom line is, hand on heart, would you take Edgerrin James at #4 in a dynasty draft, knowing everything we know now - ie that he unlikely to be a Colt, that he's old and has plenty of wear, that he could be playing for a franchise like the Cards? Would you honestly still take Edge at #4 over say Portis?

Same can be said for Alexander too though. There's atleast a fair chance he won't be back in Seattle, which could hurt his value considerably.

today, I would take Edge. But, as I said earlier, a lot could change. I do like Portis. But, I think you can easily say that if Edge stays in Indy these are the top 5. I do not care to debate who should be RB4 and who should be RB5.

The one thing I do know is that when we look back on things a year later, we are amazed how things turn out in regard to player movement and how new coaches use personnel. This will be no different.

I will happy to further this discussion when we know who goes where. Here is a woild scenario: Alexander leaves the 'hawks to go to Philly and Edge goes to Seattle. Now where do you rank Edge? Much will happen over the next few months.

 We agree on the top 4 TODAY, but this will change in time as well.Do we want to go through this process every week?

McGahee could easily become a top 5 pick if Buffalo addresses the line.

Alexander could drop farther than Edge.

LJ could get hit by a Bus and retire.

I'd take any of the next 5 in the original poll over Edge - given that this we are talking DYNASTY and Edge is:

a) old and worn-down
Our definition of "old" seems to get younger by the year. James has two more full seasons in him before he reaches 30. I would definitely be concerned if he put up another 350+ carry season in 2006, because back-to-back 350+ seasons = BAD.

Although he might appear comparitively "young" he came into the NFL very young and relative to his age he has had an incredible amount of wear - not to mention an ACL too.

Edge is not old. He'll be 28 at the start of the 2006 season. He has 694 carries over the past two seasons (2,186 in his 7 year career; 312.3/year).

By comparison, Shaun Alexander (29) has 723 carries in the past two seasons (1,653 in the last 5 years; 330.6/year).

LaDainian Tomlinson (27) has 678 ccarries in the past two seasons (1,702 in the last 5 years; 340.4/year).

Clinton Portis (25) has 695 carries in the past two seasons (1,258 in the last 4 years; 314.5/year)

The Edge is old and has a lot of wear on him is a weak arguement. He's younger than Alexander and only a year older than Tomlinson. He's averaged fewer carries per year over the last 4-5 years and had fewer carries in the past two seasons than Alexander and Portis (by 1).

with the offensive coaching staff turning around, I agree that at this point Portis should be getting consideration at the #4 or #5 spot

"PK Mike Vanderjagt NFL's most accurate kicker It probably was time for Vandy and the team to move on before the errant 46-yarder vs. Pittsburgh. "I don't understand this. If the guy can kick, he can kick. "Time to move on" for a kicker is his 40th birthday.

He has two (main) liabilities:1. His high salary

2. He doesn't kick off effectively, which wastes an extra roster space on a KO specialist

IIRC, he wanted to with Kris Wilson. He uses the TE very well. Of course, almost anyone could use Gonzo. ;)

It was time to move on because he was no longer popular with his team-mates ("idiot kicker" etc) rather than because of his kicking abililties.

Since it's dynasty I voted mcGahee. I think with a retooling of O-Line and better defense mcGahee is good for 1400/12.He is only one of a few RB who has the job 100% to himself
