Steelers selected Memphis WR Calvin Austin with the No. 138 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Austin (5'8/170) is lighting quick, blazing 4.32 at the Combine and stunning with a 6.65 3-cone. Austin's diminutive size could create problems for him at the NFL level. , but if his athleticism is elite enough to make up for it, he could be an impressive playmaker. In his final two seasons at Memphis, Austin posted 2,202 yards and 19 TDs in 23 total games. That was good for a 32% yardage share and a 33% TD share, with Austin earning first-team All-ACC honors in both seasons. Despite his size, Austin was an outside wide receiver playing 91% of his snaps out-wide as a senior. He profiles as an undersized deep threat who could eventually see more work out of the slot, in the mold of Darnell Mooney. After already spending a second-round pick on George Pickens, the move to acquire another wideout is strange. Barring the team doing something radical like trading Chase Claypool, Austin will be buried on the depth chart in his rookie season.
