Dynasty start-up mock draft (1 Viewer)

Guys, I was just out running an errand and now I have an appointment to view a suite for rent and don't have time to make a list at the moment and I don't want to make a rushed one without properly looking at how's available. I shouldn't be longer than a couple of hours though, if it gets to my pick I apologize in advance.
You should be up in the next minute or two, can you wait that long?

Catbird, and Gandalas, you guys are up in that order, then J-Dawg. Hopefully we can get these picks in before J-dawg leaves.

FELIX JONES, RB, DAL

Sorry. I was going the wrong direction? If it is my pick (and since Dez got stolen out from under me) I'll take the other extremely talented but extremely questionable young star on the Cowboys.

If it's any consolation I was basically between Dez and Felix. The only reason I went with Bryant is because of what I mentioned earlier, we have to start 3 WR's. I feel that I can get a decent RB or WR for my flex later on but to get a stud WR would have been more difficult.

I considered Jones with each of my last two picks. Had this been a real league, i would have drafted him with my 3rd round pick. He is my 12th ranked RB. Since we dont have trading, i just thought it was too early to take my 3rd RB.

We are going to run this as a league but we don't have trading? That will certainly reduce the time we have to spend...

Glad you guys like Felix. I too love the upside, but am real worried about fragility and Barber keeping goalline duties for another 2 or 3 years - potentially making Felix pretty average. If we ever decide to allow trading ... he's available. :goodposting:

We can trade, i just dont know how available people will be after the draft.

4.08 QB Matt Schaub, HOU

The last true stud QB on my list, I had to insure I got one of them on my team with this scoring format. Three of the four guys after me had QBs already except for Steelcity, and with him having two picks before my next selection, I wasn't confidant Schaub would be there with my 5th rounder and needed to grab him now.

P.S. - I had sent a list to Go Deep, was out watching the UFC tonight, sorry for the delay guys

I also sent a list to Jeter in case he came in before I got here. He didnt. :goodposting:

4.09 Vernon Davis, TE SFO

I feel like he's young and he finally put it together, and his coach is the type of coach I want for TE production.

damn, was really hoping he would fall

going down to the beach with my kid. will be back to look by noon CST if not before

4.11 Dallas Clark, TE, Colts. A lot of WRs I like, will get one next round, Clark is a safe pick. 900 yards and 8 TDs, hard to find that at WR, let alone TE, at this point.

OK, this will probably bite me in the ###, but...

4.12 Steve Smith, CAR

Aside from being 31 I really can't see why he fell this far other than the huge run at RB. Smith is tough as nails and I expect him to recover from the broken arm just fine and be there for week 2 if not week 1. Getting rid of Delhomme is a huge plus for the rest of his career, and either Moore or Clausen (when he's ready) will represent huge upside for him. Really excited to pair him with DeSean Jackson.

5.1 Randy Moss, NE

I have no problem with winning this year.

ETA: I know I will catch hell for not taking a second back here since we can start three, but honestly there's just nothing at that position that excites me, and I'd rather go for two home run picks at WR, at least one of which will be productive for at least another 3-4 years. If I get two good years out of Moss including one more season in the top five, I am happy.

5.04 Instinctive picks Justin Forsett, RB SEA via PM list.

5.05 WR Jeremy Maclin, PHI

Will do write-up later.

Current pick - 5.7. Catbird

On deck:

5.8. Mr. Peterson

5.9. ookook

5.10. Go deep

5.11. Donsmith753

5.12. Ruffody05

5.06 Gandalas selects Tom Brady, QB, NE(via draft list)
getting a top-5 qb in the 5th round is always nice-he was the first of 3 qbs I had queued at this pick. He may struggle without welker to begin the year, but Tom has always managed to get his numbers.

I'm here and back.....thanks for making my turn picks fella's!!!!! It is appreciated!!

Rody

5.07 PERCY HARVIN, WR, MIN

Happy 4th guys. I'll offer some analysis after the fireworks. For now I'll just say that I was in a dead heat between Percy and Maclin.

Just wondering (big time).........how does Randy Moss go off the board at (5.01) #49 overall?????? I don't care if it is dynasty, there is no sane reason for that.........

Damn good pick sholditch!!!!

eta: Happy 4th of July guys........I'm currently lighting up my own personal fireworks and getting real high!!!!! Can't wait to continue with this draft!!!!!!!!

I have Harvin ranked a few spots higher than Moss, and Harvin was just taken.Happy 4th to everyone!!

Just adding my thoughts............

1.12 (12) - Peyton Manning, QB3, IND (7)

2.01 (13) - Steven Jackson, RB8, STL (9)

3.12 (36) - Jermichael Finley, TE1, GB (10)

4.01 (37) - Reggie Wayne, WR13, IND (7)

I am thrilled with the Finley pick at 3.12.....I think I forced some folks to look at TE earlier than they had planned, by going early TE here. To top it off, I went with a "reach" as the #1 TE........To have Wayne land in my lap as a "hookup" is just icing on the cake. The Manning/Wayne hook is going to be soooooooo gold in 2010!!!!

Okay, that's my write-up for the last two picks....thanks for taking care of those picks jeter!!!! & GD!!!!

No problem. I like your team so far, i love QB/WR hookups as well. Your team should/would be a definite contender in 2010, you have some guys who would have gone higher in redraft. Although it might be to early to say that, i think it is a safe call. I love finley as well. I am not sure i could have picked him that high, but it might pay off for you.

So is it true that passing TDs are 6 pts and there is no penalty for INTs?
This statement is correct. ............got someone in mind???eta: It is your turn.........cheerio!!

Will pick in a minute.

It just seems an odd test of the propisition on FBG boards whether one should take a QB in the first round using a scoring system that seem pretty different than what is normally used. FBG scoring does 4/per and -1. I have played in 6/-2 and 6/-1 (which I don't like).

Not suggesting we change at this point but seems rather silly and I am curious as the the rationale behind it.

FWIW, my own preferred way to increase value of QB position (which I would not do in this case even were it up to me because is non-standard) is 6/-2 with .075 per yard.

If you are going to ignore that he threw 26 INTs last year and I would guess around 18 t0 20 this year, I will take Jay Cutler.

But put me down that ignoring such is folly and has resulted in a silly test of the reason we were doing this.

You have a point with regards to QB scoring......but no penalties for fumbles/int's is the name of the game as far as I understand.

Here, here....the only reason I took Manning in the first was to help test any theories being espoused............just kidding, I likely would have taken him there anyway....but he was a QB in the first, so needs to be included in any study.....Rody

To be honest, i copy and pasted the scoring from a post of one of the other owners here. I assumed turnovers were included and only recently noticed they were not when you mentioned it. I assumed we were subtacting 2 points for turnovers until you posted.I will ask everyone, did you assume we were subtracting for turnovers?I dont think it is a big deal either way, except for a player like Cutler, but we should still get it staightened out before we go any fiurther.

I know it's a balancing act.....but I've never understood negative points....the NFL does not remove points....

Just me venting because I'm pretty drunk...............I'm good with whatever the league decides....

Rody

If we get a massive (11 or 12 out of 12) agreement, I agree with -2 per int/lost fumble. I kind of assumed it was a given.

I'm also ok with it as is, but I think most people assumed negatives for turnovers and won't mind. I'm good either way. Also, thanks J-Dawg for taking my PM list and making the pick.

Forsett write-up

I had a few guys here, and needed a back...but I wanted to go receiver. I just didnt think that any of the receivers fit into my plans like I wanted (I liked Harvin but not with Rice, and I don't see what others see in Maclin) so I went with a young guy who, IMO, will surprise over the next few years.

The NFL doesn't award points for yards either, but we are trying to value individual accomplishments that contribute to a team's effectiveness (or success).

If you think that throwing 26 INTs did not hurt that Bears enough to negate SOME number of TDs, then you should talk to Lovie Smith.

It really does not matter to me, but I do think we need to make some decisions soon.

Is this a mock or a real league?

If a real league, then there are a ton of rules that need to be discussed.
