Dynasty Startup Question (1 Viewer)

When starting a Dynasty League, what are some important things to do?

This league will be a startup in 2009.

More than likely it will be a auction with contracts. With that said, most of the owners have never been part of Dynasty so they would like to make it a little simple to start out.

The league will be 12 teams.

To start the league, when do you draft? In August or before?

How much do you give each league to spend (salary cap)? Is it like baseball or different?

Are there any programs or an easy way to keep track of contracts and contract years? I think this might be the most difficult part to stay organized.

When signing a player for the first time, how many years is the contract? Can it only be for one year and is there a max number of years before any extensions?

With Dynasty, do you use a defensive team or only players?

Sorry for all the questions. I'm sure I'll have a few more.

If you can think of anything I missed, please let me know. I've been the commish for about 10 years, but have never been one for this type of league.

Thanks for the help.

One key if you want it to have a long life...

Make sure to institute a pay 1 year in advance entry fee rule. 1st season you'd pay both '09 and '10 fees and than all future years is just the one payment a year in advance (in '10 you'd be paying the '11 season, etc.)

That way when a guy quits on the league you have their non-refundable entry fee to help find a new incoming owner to take over a most likely below average team....they get their first season free to retool the squad and make it their own since the quitting owner already paid it.
