As of this moment, I'd take Rod Smith. Even if he doesn't play past this season, he's good for top twenty status. That's pretty solid.

Of course if the team signs TO I'd change my pick.

I'm sticking with Glenn. #15 in scoring last year. Still has a good 3-4 years left in the tank. 4 years younger than Rod Smith. He's an easy pick here.

ARE -- he's the best combination of upside with ability to help your dynasty team this year. Battle might be better in a couple years, though I don't seem him becoming more than a WR2, and Glenn is the best bet for the next 1-3 years. ARE will probably always be a WR2, but he seems to have no problem being "Slash II", increasing his chances of some form of TD each week.

please tell me how ARE in a place like chicago has more upside and less risk than battle. they have muhsin and bradley (post-injury). smith, i can see, but why ARE? i picked chicago because that is the type of place that will give him the cash. a team full of offensive weapons will not see ARE as a viable WR2.

While I'm not big on him going to Chicago, Moose is turning 33 this year. Bradley is unproven. I won't say ARE's upside > Battle if he hits the windy city, but long term, they're close. I don't see Chicago signing ARE to be anything other than the #2 WR, he'll demand too much money for that. Plus, he just may be the best QB on the roster. ;)

My point is that Battle's upside in SF (with a 2nd yr QB next year) has to be growing faster than ARE. Since it is dynasty, in two years who will have more value? I still am trying to see how ARE will have much given he stays in Pitt or goes to a place like Chicage. Oh, and I agree about ARE being the best qb in chicago.

It obviously depends on where ARE ends up, and I agree Chicago wouldn't be ideal, but seeing as we don't know where he will be, I'm assuming that whatever team signs him plans to use him as a standard WR2. In a generic scenario, I'd take him over battle. Not to mention: What have we seen from A. Smith yet? Yes, its too early to get an accurate take on his career, but his current NFL body of work is less than stellar. Hopefully he gets better, but what if he ends up the next Akili/Marinovich/Klingler etc. ? Battle's situation isn't any better than ARE. There are so many what ifs this early on, any predictions we make on FA's right now contain speculation out of necessity. Unless I hop in my Delorean, the only things I can go on are body of work and my impression of their talent. I like ARE's talent and the possibility of him going to a team that will throw to him or maybe have a poor defense, thus getting him more garbage time targets over Battle's talent and my ?'s about Alex Smith.

This is what makes FF so great, though. In a few years, either or even both of us will be proved right or wrong; and in the meantime, we get to argue about it! ;)
