Eagles going with Jeff Garcia (1 Viewer)

Perhaps Reid will make a switch during the game is Garcia is terrible. Does anyone know Reid's history of switching QBs mid-game?

Not much history outside of when McNabb has gone down with Injury. I think he pulled Detmer last year in favor of McMahan - not sure that it mattered much in that case. AJ Feely replaced Detmer in 2002 mid-game as well, but that was due to injury.

Feeley has already given the Eagles more value than they bargained for when they drafted him. Unfortunately it has not shown on the field for a few years. Chances are that AR knows exactly what he has in Feeley and hopes that broken down Garcia can do better.

That the Eagles do not understand that in this game you need a quality back up qb is beyond me - but maybe the reason in AJ Feeley.

Because they want a better 1st round draft pick? Seriously, that's about all I can come up with...
i dont think thats it, but as an eagles fan at this point, I'm actually ok with that. I'll again be hoping for an impact player through the draft instead of another one of AR's 3-5 year project players... not likely, but we can hope..I think garcia is getting the nod because he "should" be able to run this offense, even without a big arm for deep balls. If they revert their offensive philosophy back to pre-TO for the passing game and actually utilize westy, getting him 25-30+ total touches, garcia should be able to manage it. With that said, i have 0 confidence is garcia. I think he is physically and mentally done. He's always been one to take criticism a little too personally and over the last 3 years, he's gotten plenty. I'm going to root for my birds regardless, as every true fan of their team does, but there are some definate things that need changing.

Tehy signed Garcia to be the quality back up QB. They have mis evaluated him, and that will show.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Feeley & maybe even Omar Jacobs before the end of the year - they added Jacobs to the practice squad.

Ugg...

this kills Westbrooks chances of success. The defenses will key on Westbrook and the Eagles offense will be shut down.

Unhappy Westbrook owner here.

I agree that Philly didnt look at Garcias Detroit resume before signing him, he had a few (maybe only one?) decent years in San Fran, but hes far too old and gay to be considered a decent QB. Philly thought they were getting a bargain and instead they got ripped off. Im sure Reid will have a short leash on Garcia, and Feeley may be starting games by the end of the year.

I dunno. I think Westbrook still should be considered elite. The Eagles should look to run more, and give him more carries...he has proven he can handle a 20+ carry workload. Garcia should be able to keep defenses honest, and can move in and out of the pocket. Westbrook should continue to catch balls out of the backfield. I think his production stays about the same, maybe slightly decreased.

A Garcia that had a full week of snaps, with plays included to get him out of the pocket more should hopefully be better than the Garcia we saw last weekend.

Will Garcia move the ball like McNabb did, but cause drives to sputter inside the 30-yard line, increasing Akers value?

Dumb kicker question, I know.

He had 12 catches last week. Garcia panics and dumps it off quickly - great news for westy owners.
Garcia hasn't been practicing with the 1st stringers, so I wouldn't judge him entirely on last week. I think he will be improved this week, shaking off the jitters but not good enough to help the Eagles win :wall:

The NFL has HUGE surprises every week. This week's will be Garcia performing well (by fantasy standards) IMO. Feeley would do well also - Jutht give Jeff Garthia a chanthe.

By Detroit resume, you mean the entire 6 games he played for them?He is also apparently not too old or too gay to be dating one of the hottest girls on the planet for the last couple of years. Although I guess that isn't going to help the Eagles much right now.Look I am no great Garcia fan by any means, and I agree Feeley may be starting before the end of the year, but to suggest that Garcia had 1 good season in San Fran is selling the guy a little short. He is probably well past his prime, but he has no doubt shown over his career that he can proficiantly run the west coast offense that is in place in Philly.Just for fun, here are a couple of his career highlights (keep in mind he broke records by some decent guys that played QB in San Fran over the years)Was the seventh-fastest player in NFL history to reach 15,000 career passing yds. (68 games) Started all 16 games and exceeded the 3,000-yard (3,344) passing mark in 2002, both for the third consecutive season. Became first quarterback in 49ers history to complete 300 or more passes in three consecutive seasons (328 in 2002, 316 in 2001 and 355 in 2000) Selected to three consecutive Pro Bowls from 2001-03 as a member of the 49ers, and was named the NFC's starter in 2003 Threw for a 49ers franchise record and career-high 4,278 yds. and finished 2nd in the NFL with 31 TD passes in first full season as a starter in 2000.

The dude is baaaaaad. I would think AJ Feeley shows a ton more promise.

I don't understand the Shark Pool's blind spot when it comes to Feeley. The former Dolphins regime BADLY overreached by giving up a 2nd rounder for him to the Birds (thanks Fins) and quickly found out what we in Philly already knew...Feeley is a good kid, did his job as an emergency starter when he had to, but has a rag arm and is simply not physically skilled enough to be a consistent winner in the NFL. He's already made three stops in his NFL career...one which decided to trade him (from his position as QB3) while keeping Koy Detmer, the next which incorrectly viewed him as a starter but quickly realized of the absurdity of that, which led to the new Saban regime trading him to the Chargers for CLEO LEMON. And then the Chargers couldn't find a place for him either, thus his return to Philly.

Folks, Feeley is the definition of a journeyman dink and dunker. There is no promise to his play. While Garcia isn't a compelling option either, the team specifically targeted him this year so we could avoid the debacle of last season.

I'm as heartbroken over Donnie Mac's injury as one can get, and agree that we're likely on our way to a sub-.500 record as a result. But Garcia will absolutely win at least two of the final six games.

I think the Eagles have to start Garcia - that is why they signed him. Failing to start him now would mean that Reid & Co would have to admit they made a mistake bringing him in. Not their style.

I think he will actually run the offense pretty well. Reid loves the short passing game and Garcia can do that. This season, for some reason, Reid gets away from the short stuff too quickly. I don't think I have ever seen the Eagles go deep as much as they have tried to this season. I think with Garcia's lack of arm strength, they will get back to the 5-10 yd passing game and more of a ball control offense.

As a Westbrook owner, in a PPR league, I'm not overly concerned about his value - I'll take 12 catches every week.

That being said, if they lose the next 3 and the playoffs are out of reach - I expect them to give Feeley a shot but not before then.

How much do we downgrade Stallworth? Is Garcia's arm really that weak?
Stallworth has been running 15yd and under routes, so I wouldn't worry.Brown is more of a concern, but the traditional WCO works well for Garcia.

I think asking if you want Garcia or Feeley is like being asked if you want to be punched or kicked? Both are not great and I think they will just have to hope that the surrounding talent prevails.

Ok I know Garcia has had some good runs, but that was over 3 years ago and the NFL has a very short memory. In other words, forget about what he has done, the question is what can he really do, and what can you expect. I expect he will either be injured or ineffective. About the gay part, he is a ######....the hot chicks are all a cover. Hot chicks love to hang out with gay guys, its common knowledge. Enough BS. Garcia is way past his prime and you will see it on the field. I may be trashing him prematurely, but Im pretty sure I wont be eating this words come Sunday.

How many years since Feeley did something positive - and why should that be remembered more than Garcia?Reid has to pick between the plague and the cholera.

I think Garcia gets a bad rap. He had some very good years but IMHO, picked some pretty horrible franchises to play for after leaving SF because of their cap issues. The Browns were a mess. And while he had some success with Mooch, the Lions were also in a bad way for a long time. I think part of this was Garcia was overestimating his value in the FA market and didn't want to concede being a backup and the reality that the NFL has done a much better job of developing young QBs than they did in Steve Young's prime. Back in the day, people were lining up to trade for Steve Bono, thats how desperate people were for starting QBs. Garcia was simply born too late to have his best opportunities. Other than Bill Walsh, I don't think anyone in the NFL thought Garcia could do anything in pro football but I think he carved himself out a pretty nice career despite all the nay sayers. Garcia does not have any natural leadership qualities which I think really hurts him now since his skill set is more suited to be a backup, and as a veteran backup, part of his role is to help mentor younger players on the team. Again I point to Trent Dilfer - limited physical tools but a good leader who knows his role and how to bring out the best in young players. The veteran backup QB role isn't just about winning a few fill in games for injury, it's also about bringing some intangibles to a football team.
Yes.Garcia had lots of success in the past on a talented team.He also struggled in the past on bad teams. Its possible he will have success on the Eagles. We'll have to see.

:goodposting: Not only did Miami prefer Cleo Lemon, they threw in a draft pick to trade him for Feeley. The Chargers were so unimpressed with Feeley they thought they would be better with only two QBs on the roster rather than have Feeley.

the eagles master plan at work. make a player look great in their system so someone else takes a chance on them. milk whatever you can out of that deal, then expect a player return in 2-5 years. (trotter/barber/feeley)
