Report: Eagles inquire about Tony SchefflerSchefflerThe Eagles phoned the Broncos about Tony Scheffler's availability recently.Philadelphia lost out to Atlanta for Tony Gonzalez, but could add more speed and youth with Scheffler, who has experience in a West Coast style offense like Andy Reid's. The Denver Post says the Broncos won't trade Scheffler unless they're offered a first-round pick. We're confident he can be had for at a second- or third-rounder, though. Josh McDaniels' offense uses TEs little, Scheffler's in a contract year, and he's been on the trade block for months. Apr. 25 - 2:59 am etSource: Denver Post
This would be a great move for both Scheffler and the Eagles.

It'd be great for a 3rd rounder.

Strictly from a pass catching standpoint, Scheffler is one of the top-5 TE's in the NFL in my opinion.

However, he blocks only slightly better than air.

I don't get this move. Philly already has a TE who can catch well, but block poorly. We need one who can bloc well, and that's not Scheffler.

This is a team that started Todd Pinkston for years. They could split him out wide if worse came to worst.

who is ther TE who is proven as a good catcher but cant block? last I checked he is now on the ravens!!!!!

Doesn't anyone think Celek can be a great TE in that system? He really came on in the playoffs and I honestly see no reason why he can't be the starting TE for the Eagles this year.

Eagles have been "interested" in everybody it seems...

Anyway, I agree with renesauz that Celek seems more than capable in the passing game and what the Eagles are looking for is a TE who can block. I don't buy that this move will happen...

The problem is what if he gets hurt your stuck with nothing vs having Tony as a top TE pass threat and celek will still be in the mix giving tonys injury past!!!!

maybe its just me but boldin for a second rounder and additional players and tony for a third is better than any rookie in the draft. I would list tony as a top 5 TE on the eagles, would not even draft celek on any of my fantasy teams!!!!!!

I think Celek could be a decent player for them, but Scheffler is an elite athlete with outstanding receiving skills. He led the league in yards-per-reception among TEs last year (16+). He's also big enough, strong enough, & smart enough to develop into a decent blocker. The sky is the limit if Scheffler ever lands in the right offense.

While Orton can find his TE's at a farily decent rate, please let this happen! As a Shef owner, I'll take my chances with McNabb throwing him the ball.

According to the Denver Post, the Broncos are saying they won't trade him for anything less than a 1st.

Scheffler likely staying.

After the Philadelphia Eagles failed to execute a trade for tight end Tony Gonzalez, they called the Broncos to seek a trade for tight end Tony Scheffler.

But barring the unlikely event the Eagles surrender a first-round pick for Scheffler, the Broncos won't listen.

The Eagles offered only a third-round pick to Kansas City for Gonzalez, the all-time career leader among tight ends in nearly every receiving category. Gonzalez was instead traded to Atlanta for a second-round pick in 2010.

It might be argued Scheffler, at 26, has more trade value than Gonzalez, at 33. Scheffler will make $535,000 this year, while Gonzalez is the league's highest- paid tight end at $7 million. Scheffler led all tight ends with a 16.1-yards-per-catch average last season while Gonzalez averaged 11.0 yards per catch.

:goodposting: Scheffler to the Eagles..... all I can say is that this rumor has some legs.....

Brent Celek and "great" don't belong in the same sentence, other than if you're saying "it sure would be great if we could find someone to start so Brent Celek could play a backup role, as he's suited for.":whistle:In all seriousness, Celek has achieved more than we should've hoped already, he's a very limited guy as a blocker and is stiff [lacks fluidity]. He's a guy that can work hard out there and knows the scheme, but he's far from being a difference maker. That said, I find it HILARIOUS that the Broncos would contend Scheffler is only available for a 1st rounder when they wouldn't give up a 1st rounder by all accounts to get Matt Cassel; the guy they supposedly coveted. I would be disappointed if the Eagles gave up any more than our 3rd for Scheffler, and even then I would probably rather them use that same pick on a number of compelling tight ends that should be available in this draft.

I'd be surprised if the Broncos are really expecting to get a 1st out of it and would think that a 3rd or better would probably get it done. I'm guessing the 1st talk is just posturing right now unless McD really does have big plans for Scheff in the Denver offense after all.

From what he did the last week and the playoffs, why can't he continue doing that if given the chance? I just think IF given the chance, he can perform well above what everyone is expecting.

Timmy Smith set a Super Bowl record with 204 rushing yards as a rookie. Let's not extrapolate one or two games, even if they were playoff games, against the rest of his body of work. He's a contributor, but he's not special.

I don't think it's "not possible".... I think it's not likely. If the Eagles can get this deal done for anything less than a first round pick I think they make out like bandits. And if they can land Scheffler, Celek really won't have a chance to prove himself anyways.... Scheffler's certainly worth a late first rounder.... just my humble opinion...I guess if it's gonna happen, it'll be today

I agree 100% and I like Celek but he isn't a guy who is going to improve them in the redzone or stretch the field. If anything I think Celek should be out there practicing his blocking technique and the Eagles should be trying to get a Te who can stretch the field and creates mismatches not worrying about getting a Dan Campbell type.

I do agree that Celek isn't the best blocker. But until this year, the Eagles relied on their TE's to be a good blocker since they never had a FB. With the addition of L.Weaver, maybe they can afford to let Celek run the routes and see what he can do. Just my two cents.

I'm very surprised to see this guy is still a Bronco. After the "inexplicable" pick of Quinn in round 2, I thought Scheffler was gone for sure.

I guess something could still happen, but I'm disappointed that Philly or a team like Carolina didn't step up and make a deal.
