GREAT STUFF GUYS...
keep the info coming!

Buckhalter wasn't on the field today...Westbrook was the only one taking snaps with the first team, Mahe worked with the second team. How do you guys see the rb ratio shaking out? Will Westy be the guy, or is Buckhalter likely to see increased action?
Im considering going also if I can get away from work. You guys going to the camp, any suggestions for a best day and time to visit?Haven't been up there in a few years but would like to stop by and check it out.
Looks good, made some great catches.Hows Westbrook look?
Im so tempted to take this guy12. L.J. Smith looked great. He is going to open a ton of eyes this year. TO ,Mitchell, Westbrook, Smith?? Who does a defense guard? LJ is running crisper routes this year instead of rounding them off. Call me a homer, but I think he forces himself to be mentioned in the upper echelon of TEs this year.
LEHIGH, Pa. (Aug. 5, 2004) -- Let me first set the scene for you at Eagles camp. It is an already hot and humid morning. Lehigh University is a good hour ride or more for many diehard Eagles fans, and the parking lot resembles a game day. There are close to 10,000 fans, all in Eagles clothing, all geared up for a morning practice. The whole scene reminded me of the expectations for the Philadelphia franchise this year: Super Bowl or nothing. With every pass thrown to Terrell Owens, the crowd would roar, and T.O. loved it. After practice when most of his new teammates were already showered and on their way to lunch, Owens was still out signing autographs and having his picture taken with fans. I know he's excited because during the practice, I watched the Eagles call six straight pass plays in a team period, and on all six he sprinted down field and cleared out the secondary to open up an underneath route for another receiver. In the old days, that might have infuriated him, but not at this practice. Later in the morning, he hooked up with Donovan McNabb a number of times against the inexperienced Eagles corners and it looked like a deadly combination. As for the rest of the Eagles offense, there was lots to be impressed with, and an area or two for concern. Let's start up front with the offensive line. The Eagles have two 6-foot-7 tackles in Tra Thomas and Jon Runyan, which gives them the bookends most teams dream about. Inside, Hank Fraley is the blue-collar center who is a favorite of head coach Andy Reid. Jermane Mayberry, who can also play some tackle, has one guard spot, and rookie first-round pick Shawn Andrews, at 6-4 and 320 pounds, has the other spot. Every coach I spoke with before practice had something good to say about Andrews, so I spent a lot of time watching him work. He is a very good athlete who will make the offensive line one of the best in the NFL this year but he needs more work. In his one-on-one pass blocking, he worked against DT Corey Simon, and on the first rush Andrews got his hands on him, squared him up, dropped his weight and the rush was over on the spot. Andrews looked like an All Pro. On the next rush, Simon gave him a quick head fake and a change-of-direction rush, and Andrews missed him completely and ended up blocking air as Simon was in the backfield. What impressed me most as it happened was how Andrews handled the situation. No hanging his head, no immature outburst, just eyes on his coach listening to what he did wrong and going to the sideline to work on the instructions. He will be a great one sooner rather than later. The Eagles receivers have always been thought of as an average to below-average group, and that has changed with the addition of Owens. I must report that T.O. isn't the only area of improvement; Freddie Mitchell finished strong last season and Todd Pinkston looked very good in practice. I suspect both will have over 40 receptions as the No. 2 and No. 3 receivers, respectively. The other receiving dimension that is ready to explode is tight end L.J. Smith. He is a vertical threat at 250 pounds, and with the new emphasis on pass interference, he could become a very dangerous threat -- especially in the red zone. The running backs concern me as I watched the short-yardage/goal-line live drill. Correll Buckhalter didn't participate on this day and the offensive coaches were quick to point out he will be in there come game time. But there really isn't another inside pounder who can get the tough yards and move the chains. The defense dominated the Eagles' short-yardage run game and it's not the best place to feature the talents of Brian Westbrook. As I stood there, I couldn't help but think how much a guy like the Raiders' Zack Crockett would fit nicely. Crockett only rushed for 145 yards last year but he scored seven times in the goal-line run package. The Eagles have the cap space to pick up a guy like that late in August after the last cuts if one should appear. All eyes are on Terrell Owens at Eagles camp. The Eagles offense in the open field or in the two-minute situation is ready to go with what appears to be some extended use of the shotgun formation. Based on what I saw in practice, they will give real problems for every opponent. Let's not forget about the 240-pound McNabb, who is a tremendous running threat and already has 2,237 yards and 17 touchdowns in his five-year career. The Eagles would prefer to keep him in the pocket but they have very capable backup quarterbacks in Jeff Blake and Koy Detmer, and more importantly, McNabb is not going to leave anything on the table this year to win a Super Bowl. As good as the Eagles defense is, when Donovan took off in practice, he gained yardage in big chunks. As for the defense, coordinator Jim Johnson is already in midseason form. During one team period, every linebacker, nickelback and safety blitzed at least once. He has the athletes up front to look like they're rushing and then drop into coverage while the others blitz in his "fire-zone scheme." Jevon Kearse was very impressive all practice, chasing run plays down from behind when the offense tried to run away from him. He also held up well when Runyan blocked him and the run game came right at him. Defensive tackle Darwin Walker sat out practice but Hollis Thomas clogged up the middle and Simon was very disruptive in the live team periods. A key player on the Eagles defense will be N.D. Kalu, who is listed as a defensive end but can line up as a linebacker and quickly turn the Eagles package into a 3-4 front, especially in nickel and dime packages. Philly has five linebackers who can start in the NFL with Mark Simoneau, Jeremiah Trotter, Nate Wayne, Dhani Jones and Ike Reese all practicing well. I was very impressed with how quickly Simoneau can key and diagnose plays. Coach Johnson can't play them all but I'm sure the special teams coach, John Harbaugh, is happy to have that many quality players to work with this year. Let's go camping! NFL.com's Vic Carucci and Pat Kirwan are cruising the country to bring you in-depth training-camp coverage. Got an NFL question? Drop Vic an e-mail at AskVic@nfl.com. Everyone at practice wanted to point to the cornerbacks as the weakness of the team. Philadelphia isn't playing a lot of press man coverage, which Bobby Taylor and Troy Vincent excelled at in earlier years when they were healthy. Sure, Lito Sheppard and Sheldon Brown have just 12 career starts between them and it's easy to point at them as a liability. The safeties, Michael Lewis and Brian Dawkins, are excellent; the Eagles will get pressure on the quarterback and the scheme will help them. As I reminded one observer on the sideline at practice, the Panthers almost won the Super Bowl with Ricky Manning and Reggie Howard on the field at cornerback. What struck me at practice was how much quality work the young Eagles corners were getting going up against Owens. It's common knowledge that the Eagles have one goal this season, and that's getting to Jacksonville to play in the Super Bowl. It's a realistic one. Everyone also knows they have upwards of six or seven Pro Bowl players on their roster. But what I walked away from practice with was the core of backup utility players that make the depth on this roster exceptional. In addition, they have no real contract situations for 2005 and they already have 11 picks in next spring's draft. As long as they've been humming into the playoffs, this team could stay at the top for a while longer yet. I said to Reid after practice that I was very impressed with his team and how hard they worked for two-and-a-half hours and he just stared at me and said, "We just have to keep pushing." If they do what he tells them, they will make it to Jacksonville in February.

Eagles running back Correll Buckhalter did not practice on Saturday due to a knee contusion, the team's official web site reported. Buckhalter previously missed training camp time with a left eye laceration.

August 17, 2004By BOB KENTThe season is over before it started for defensive end N.D. Kalu. He suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee Tuesday morning and will undergo season-ending surgery. No specifics have been determined as to when Kalu will have surgery. DE N.D. Kalu "I really feel for N.D. because he's such a good person and a hard worker," said head coach Andy Reid in a statement. "He was having a great camp. N.D.'s a heckuva football player. I know that he'll continue to work hard in his rehabilitation process to get back on the field in 2005. "As I said earlier, Derrick Burgess and Jerome McDougle, among others, will fill in for N.D. at that right end spot." It was a simple play, really. Kalu made an inside move and then went down near the end of the morning practice at the NovaCare Complex. "His foot got caught in the grass and he just twisted it," said Reid, describing what happened to Kalu. "That's one of those things during camp. Things happen. You have to work your way through it." The Eagles did more than work their way through injuries last season, especially along the defensive line. In 2003, defensive linemen missed a total of 67 games during the regular season. Ironically, Kalu was one of the few that remained healthy pretty much the whole season. Kalu was having an excellent summer as the starting right end. He had gained some weight and was fresh following a solid 2003 season during which he was a sturdy memer of a banged-up line. Kalu had 5 1/2 sacks and he set career highs in total tackles (74) and quarterback hurries (21). Burgess, who has missed the last two seasons with injuries, now has a big load. Expect Jerome McDougle's reps to increase as well. McDougle, the team's first-round draft pick last year, played sparingly as a rookie after missing eight games with injuries. He just returned to practice this week after missing time recovering from shoulder surgery. In other injury news, Brian Dawkins (knee), Dhani Jones (ankle), David Akers (quad spasms), Koy Detmer (knee), Paul Grasmanis (knee), Sam Rayburn (knee), Matt Ware (leg), Quintin Mikell (knee), Greg Richmond (knee), and Corey Simon (back) as well as linebacker Nate Wayne (hamstring) all missed practice due to injury. Simon, out with a lower back problem, was examined recently and is day-to-day. "We'll see in a day or two here what his situation is," Reid said of Simon. Akers did not practice because of a quad spasm, but he is expected to be back on the field on Wednesday.
I think FredX is primed for a breakout season. It seems he will stay in the slot for the majority and see plenty of balls. WHat does this mean to us FFers? Even if FredX has one of the best NFL-WR3 season, I have to hope no one needs him as a FF WR-2 or WR-3 unless it is a deep league. My guess his scoring will be erratic but could turn into a redzone threat depending on how he is used. I think FredX could be a great NFL-WR3 but Im not sure he will amount to a solid FFL WR-2 unless Stinkston can stretch the field as well as OwensJAA, how do you think Mitchell will do this season? Is he primed for a breakout, esp with Owens on the other side, or is this going to be another year of ignoring receivers and tossing to the RBS?
Owens more complex than brash public imageT.O., baby. It's all about Terrell Owens. At least it seems that way sometimes. By Miles Kennedy, AP Last Sunday, T.O. and the Philadelphia Eagles scored a TKO over the Peter McNeeleys of pro football, those staggering New York Giants. Owens snagged three touchdown passes from Donovan McNabb after arriving only about an hour before kickoff. Along with traffic, he was moving at a crawl."I had a lot of stuff on my mind," Owens quietly tells us.The "stuff" wasn't just stuff. It was his best friend.Theron Cooper was awaiting a kidney transplant. He was rushed to an Atlanta hospital Saturday night after being notified that a donor organ was available. He had surgery Sunday morning."My man Coop was definitely on my mind, but nobody knew," said Owens, who saved all three touchdown balls for his friend. "A lot of people don't know a lot of things about me. I hold stuff in. Definitely, he was heavy on my mind from the start of the game. I said a prayer before I came out for the intros. I channeled all that energy and used it as a positive."He scored and flexed his muscles. He landed on pay dirt and flapped his wings. He was just being T.O., just like Monday morning when the big Eagle swooped into Atlanta for a surprise visit with recuperating Coop."I was trying to enliven his spirits," he said. "He had a big smile on his face, but maybe I shouldn't have gone because I was (making him laugh) and he had to keep pressing that button that gives you medicine for the pain. He called me last night at 1 in the morning and said he was going to try to make it to the Monday night game. I said, 'No, you're not, either. You better set your butt down in this bed.' "In five days, one of the most-hyped games of the 2004 NFL season will be played in Philadelphia, matching the Eagles against the Minnesota Vikings. "Ought to be like a Tyson-Holyfield fight," Owens said. The prime-time comparisons are inevitable: Donovan vs. Daunte. Owens and Moss. Of course, T.O. is clear on who is the league's premier wide receiver."I've got to say that it's me."You know what? Randy (Moss) is a great receiver. You can bring out his highlights catching the ball and you can bring out mine. You'll see spectacular stuff. But I think it's the little things separate me from him. Bring those highlights up. Watch me block, then watch him block. There you have it."Yes, he's outlandish, outspoken and a shameless self-promoter, one best viewed through the self-congratulatory prism of his Web site, terrellowens.com, a 50-Cent-inspired flash dance of self-expression. It includes the boast that he has "the best autograph in NFL history." And a Sharpie draws it.Funny guy, that T.O. Unless you're a DB.Yes, it's all about T.O. Or is it?Is he everything we think he is, namely a polarizing pouter with freakish skills? He'd be the first to say that he's like a lot of us: a work in progress. When you grow up fatherless in a racist climate, when you're insecure about what you do — indeed, who you are — perhaps you look at the world a little differently.Maybe that's why the scarred, sometimes withdrawn and impulsive receiver is coming out with his book next month, Catch This! Going Deep with the NFL's Sharpest Weapon. He wants people to understand how T.O. became T.O."It's about how I've gotten to where I've gotten — faith, determination and hard work. It will definitely show a different side of what everyone sees through the media," he said. "I sent a book to a (former) receivers coach of mine, a guy with whom I'm very close. He read the book and said, 'T.O., I knew a lot about you, but there was a lot I didn't know.' It pretty much paints a picture of who I am."Off the field, he's surprisingly reserved and, yes, suspicious of strangers. On the field ... well, you know."I'm very competitive. I play with heart. And I make a lot of decisions with my heart," he said. "I think that has something to do with me growing up in the household of my grandmother. I think a lot of people take me the wrong way, for whatever reason." T.O. on minority QBs: "Donovan has a lot of pressure on him. And it's not just Donovan — you're talking about Donovan, Daunte (Culpepper), Aaron Brooks. I'm talking about black quarterbacks. That's enough pressure in itself. At one point, they said black quarterbacks couldn't lead a team to the Super Bowl, and nobody's really done that since Doug Williams. There are a lot of things that Donovan has set out to prove."T.O. on NFL rules limiting celebration: "They are contrary to the concept of playing as a team. Obviously, you want to celebrate as a team. (But) when you score touchdowns, you basically have to celebrate by yourself. If you're not allowing guys to cheer with a teammate, the message you're sending the world is: 'Me-me-me-me.' "T.O. on the notoriously famous Philly fans: "We're a great match. It's not going to be all peaches and cream, like the way we started Sunday. But I'm looking forward to it. I've already heard about the boos, but that's part of the territory. They've booed Santa Claus, they've booed Kobe and they've booed Donovan. That's an elite group of guys. Hey, any guy who can deliver toys all across America on one night is talented. If I get booed — and I'm pretty sure I will at some point — I'll feel part of the family."Maybe it's not all about him, after all. Maybe it's time for a timeout with T.O.
Injury Bug Keeps Biting Eagles Jon Ritchie officially joined the Eagles' Injured Reserve list on Monday afternoon, becoming the eighth player lost for the season with one ailment or another. That eight-man team is quite an impressive collection of talent. Too bad the players are on the sidelines. The NFL has been hit hard by a rash of serious injuries this season, and no team has been more adversely affected than the Eagles. Eight players are gone, including starters at defensive end (N.D. Kalu), offensive guard (Shawn Andrews), halfback (Correll Buckhalter was going to at least share the load with Brian Westbrook) and fullback (Ritchie). Also in that group are some draft picks from last April (running back Bruce Perry, offensive linemen Adrien Clarke and Dominic Furio as well as a young reserve offensive lineman the Eagles were counting on in Jamaal Jackson). When will it stop? When will it start affecting a team that is off to a scintillating 3-0 start, one that includes wins double-digit wins each week? "We just have to keep playing," said tight end Chad Lewis. "It's a matter of one player stepping in and making the most of an opportunity. That's all it is. You can't worry about what you don't have. We're going to keep fighting." What else can you do? In the case of the injured players already, the Eagles have adjusted well. After Kalu's injury, the team signed veteran Hugh Douglas, who had been waived by the Jaguars. When Buckhalter went down, the Eagles turned to Dorsey Levens to add some veteran presence in the backfield. Without Andrews, the Eagles plugged in Artis Hicks at left guard and moved Jermane Mayberry to right guard. Now, without Ritchie, the Eagles are expected to give rookie Thomas Tapeh and a more experienced Josh Parry chances to play the fullback position and cover on special teams. "You keep moving forward and pressing on," said safety Brian Dawkins. "Every player in the locker room knows that he's one play away from something changing. You have to be prepared at all times."

Terrell Owens wasted little time in providing some bulletin board material for Sunday's game with Carolina. Two questions into his midweek press conference, T.O. directed a message to one of the Panthers' defensive backs:
"I hope (Carolina CB) Ricky Manning Jr. doesn't come here thinking he's just going to push us around this year, because it's not going to happen," said Owens, noting that Philadelphia is better equipped to deal with Carolina's physical corner play. "If it's going to be a physical game on Sunday, then I welcome that. We welcome that."
Manning publicly criticized the Eagles' receivers before the NFC title game last year, saying he "wasn't impressed" with the Eagles' receivers. He backed up those words with three interceptions in the contest. Meanwhile, the Eagles' starting receivers -- James Thrash and Todd Pinkston -- combined for just one catch for 9 yards.
WR Terrell Owens
"You can't let a guy take you out of your game. Maybe that's what happened (last year)," Owens said. "It's a different year, a different mindset. It's a different team.
"I feel like we have a great group of guys in the receiving corps, and I'm the big brother of that group."
The Eagles' third-ranked offense has certainly been impressive through four games. Donovan McNabb is off to the best start of his career, completing 68.1 percent of his attempts (98 of 144), tossing nine touchdown passes against one interception, and posting a 110.5 passer rating. Owens, meanwhile, is off to a career-best scoring pace, posting six touchdown receptions, second-most in the NFL.
However, despite their 1-3 record, the Panthers are a dangerous team, with a fourth-ranked pass defense and a front four (minus DT Kris Jenkins) that many believe is one of the game's best.
McNabb said Carolina's defense will have to respect the deep ball this week. Owens, meanwhile, welcomes the tough, physical play at the line of scrimmage.
"Every game, I look forward to guys trying to take me out of the offense as far as being physical and jamming me at the line," Owens said. "I welcome the one-on-one matchups, I welcome the double-teams."
Regardless of the coverage, McNabb has connected with Owens 26 times this season. The quarterback has completed 72 more passes to 10 other players.
Certainly, McNabb and Co. respect Manning and the rest of the Panthers defense. As for the trash talk, T.O. welcomes that, too.
CB Ricky Manning Jr.
"This ain't what he wants right here. If he wants to bring it, then bring it," Owens said. "I don't have to say a whole lot. I don't have to talk a lot to pump my game up. I really haven't watched much of the guy (Manning Jr.).
"I don't really care about their names or any of that. I just go out there and play. He's just a guy in front of me that I need to beat. He's obviously in my way of getting into the end zone.
"Cornerbacks try to talk trash and take me out. As soon as they do, two or three plays later, it's six (points). I hear it. I absorb it and keep going. I think I've done what I had to do on the field and it kind of speaks for itself."
Owens, who recorded his first NFL reception against Carolina, has had his own success against the Panthers. Owens has racked up at least 96 receiving yards in each of his past four games against the Panthers. He's also posted four touchdowns during that span.
So what do all the words mean? What does the bulletin board messages mean? Not a whole lot, but there's something there.
Owens' remarks were indicative of a swagger. It signifies a team that is supremely confident.
Panthers would have had a tough team winning again in Philly with a healthy team, but with no Foster, a gimpy Davis, no Smith, no Kris Jenkins, etc...Manning for SURE doesn't want any TO.link

the Eagles have given up the second fewest points per game (15.8) in the NFL? The only team in football to surrender fewer points per game is Baltimore (14.0), and they're clearly the best defensive team in football. Pittsburgh is in third at 16.1, followed by the Jets at 16.5, and then Denver at 16.7.Before anyone tries to say we haven't faced the level of competition that those other teams have faced, here are the combined records of the opponents for each team:Eagles 47-53 (46-44 excluding games against the Eagles)Pittsburgh 45-54 (44-45 excluding games against Pittsburgh)Jets 40-59 (37-52 excluding games against the Jets)Denver 46-53 (43-46 excluding games against Denver)We have also scored at least 2.5 more points per game than any of these teams (Pittsburgh is the closest). So, yards per game be damned, we still have a pretty good defense.
:rotflmao: JAA"Listen, if I can run down the field and put my hands up to catch the ball and hold Freddie at the same time, then put me in the Pro Bowl, because that's some ballin' right there," Smoot said. "He fell and I fell on him, but if you want to see some bad refereeing, come to a Washington Redskins game. I mean, I might hold T.O., but I don't have to hold Freddie Mitchell. He can't run away from me. All I know is, we can't win when we have to play against the Philadelphia Eagles, Andy Reid, the referees and ourselves, too."
I belong to a couple other forums online. One of them happens to be for country singer Toby Keith. Believe it or not, he has quite a large following in PA. Anyway, some of the Toby Keith fans are Eagles fans too. One of them, Christle, posted a story about a trip to training camp this year. It's an incredible strory, and I felt the need to share it with everyone here to let you know just how incredible this organization is...
I apologize for the length of the story...
I just wanted to tell you this story about my son with the eagles. Let me tell those of you who don't know my son is a wheelchair user. He has Spina Bifida, which made him paralyzed from about right under his rib cage down. Ok now that I said that let me start. This past spring my son and his biological father went out to the eagles trainging camp. This is the first excuersion they went out alone as father and son. He always has his wife with only because the father is scared if John(my son) ever had a seizure with him he wouldn't know what to do. any way they went to the eagles training camp, and they got there early before anyone else did so they could get good seats. they got a spot right in front of the fence where most of the players come by to sign autographs. Well as the crowd grew bigger they kept pushing John back and climbing on his wheelcahir. There were kids, with no parents around of course, actually climbing on the wheels of his wheelchair. So his dad took him out of the chair and put him on his shuolders, but after a while he got to heavy and his dad had to put him down. A lady on the field saw this and motioned John and his dad over her way where she took Them down into the locker room with the eagles. He got 23 signatures on his football including people such as Donovan McNabb, Terell Owens, David Akers and more. He got a wristband from David Akers and the gloves of Pinkston and Pope they had on during practice. He had so much fun with the guys and the guys had so much fun with him that they invited him back the following day to hang out with them. So they went back the second day and had a ball too. He has some pictures witht he guys too.
So one day my youngest daughter was sick and I was on my way to the doctor with her when I realized our local radio station country of course does eagles prime time live with David Akers and Freddie Mitchell. At the end of the show they had a time when you could call in and ask questions. So me, being the person I am, I tried calling figuring I wouldn't get through but if I did I wanted to thank the guys for making my son feel so special that weekend. Well beleive it or not I got through and the guy who answered asked what my questions were so I told him I didn't have a question but rather a comment and a thank you. I explained to him my situation and he said mam, please don't take this offensivly but I can not let you do that tonight because the questions on this show need to be realted to the game they played the weekend before. So I kindly said to the man if he knew what was good for him he would get me a way to contact them. So he gave me the email adress of the lady from the radio station and said if I email her she would let the guys know. So I emailed her this huge lengthy email about the guys and how special they made John feel and she emailed me back and told me that they do the eagles prime time live right in Philadelphia at Citizens bank park where the phillies play baseball and invited us down to the show so that John could be on the radio with them. So three weeks of emailing back and forth and I finally get John down to see David Akers. Well let me tell you, I never thought David Akers was that good looking but after seeing him in street cloths I am now hooked. OMG what a good looking man. Any way when he walked in the front door, he knew we were going to be there and he came right over to John and hugged him. Now of course the BIG joke of the house is mommy's jealous of me because I got a hug from the man and she didn't. Not even a handshake. anyway they left him ask a question on the radio and he asked David Akers if it is hard to kick a field goal in the wind. he answered him of course but the greatest thing happened to me when we were sitting there on the floor waiting for our turn. John leaned over to me and whispered in my ear "Mommy you made all my dreams come true" So now I am in tears and then the question and before John asked his question Akers said to John How have you been buddy I haven't seen you since training camp. I am choking trying to hold it all in saying to myself ok you idiot don't cry now you are in front of some very good looking people and that would have been embarrassing. so after the question is over I dart back to my sister threw John with her made a bee line to the bathroom let out my cry and returned back to the show. After the show was over Akers came back over to John had his picture taken with him and signed his coat. On the way out he gave him a pat on the back and said John you have a pass to get in here whenever you want. WOW what an awesome experience. Let me finish with this I have liked the eagles been a dedicated fan since about 1989 or so, but never really could care what they were doing. But now I am watching every game and cheering and hooting and hollering. Kinda like when I see Toby on tv. this has truley been the most wonderful experience for my son because he tells everyone it is only Akers that made him feel special though he liks McNabb too. Well thank you for reading my story and if anyone from inside football ever get thier hands on this post make sure you let the eagles know that they made a dream come true for a very special kid.
sappiness aside, it's still a great story...thanks, JAASorry for the sappiness
A post from the Phi Eagles forum

JAAOn the range of emotions he has had today:“In this situation, I went down there optimistic, kind of hoping for the best and I got the worst of news. But, things happen and you just got to move on from it. I’m just sad from the standpoint of not being able to be there with the guys. I was in the playoffs, I know these next two games are sort of meaningless, but not really. My thing was I was looking forward to the playoffs, really trying to get this team to the Super Bowl. I think, without me, they still can achieve that goal. I have talked to Freddie, I’ve talked to Pink, Donovan called me early. I just got off the phone with Dawk and I just wanted to let those guys know that I’m behind them. I am going to be their biggest cheerleader. Coach Reid called me earlier today and, like I said, it is just something that is unfortunate at the wrong time. I am going to be the best supporter I can be for those guys. Billy McMullen is going to have to step up big. Honestly, I feel like that is a guy that can come in, step up and create some fits for some guys. He obviously is a guy that has size going, similar to myself. Freddie is going to get his chances to make plays. There shouldn’t be any more excuses as to why he’s not getting any balls. Now he gets his chances. Pink and G. Lew are going to be up there on the field. Everybody’s opportunities are going to be there. Now, they just got to go out there and make plays. These next two regular season games, they can go in there and try to get themselves better and put themselves in some situations where they can get that game tempo and get ready for the playoffs. Once the playoffs start, it’s anybody’s game and the intensity increases that much more.”
On how he is describing his injury to his friends and family:“Really it was just an ankle sprain. Like you guys have heard Rick describe it, we need the screw to be in there, to keep it stable so those ligaments can heal. The reason they have to put that screw in is probably stemming from an old high ankle injury that I had in the past. So, like I said, it is unfortunate, I just have to go in there and do what needs to be done. I will recover fully from it. Other than that, it is just an ankle sprain that is a little bit more severe than everybody anticipated.”
On when he thinks is the earliest he could play:“Once I get the surgery, there will be a stretch of 2-3 weeks of rehab, treatment. I feel like I am a pretty good healer, see how my body responds to all of that. Believe me, I am already on top of it. I already moved my hyperbaric chamber down to my living room. Believe me, I will be in that, trying to get myself back on the field as soon as I can. But, I am going to be smart about the situation.”
On how he thinks the team will replace the attitude that he brings to the field:“They will be fine. Like I said, I know one person that is going to be fired up and that’s on the defensive side of the ball and that is Brian Dawkins. If I can be on the sideline and provide any kind of spark with my presence, I am going to do whatever I need to do. Like I said, I just wanted to let those guys know that it doesn’t stop with me. Just like guys went down early in the season. Kalu went down the week before training camp, so somebody has to step in. Buckhalter went down earlier in the year so everybody has to step up. There is no reason for anybody to get down. No reason for the city of Philadelphia to get down because I am not there. Obviously my presence will be missed, but we have the guys that can get it done and I truly believe that.”
On what will keep him from playing in the Super Bowl if the Eagles make it there:“I don’t know. They will probably have to put me in a straight jacket. Other than that, I feel overwhelmingly confident that they can win the two playoff games, the championship obviously. Depending on how my rehab process goes, if I am able to go, God willing, then I am going to give it a shot. If not, I will be the biggest cheerleader on that sideline at the Super Bowl.”

'IT WAS REALLY A TRAGEDY'By MARCUS HAYEShayesm@phillynews.comLITO SHEPPARD'S words hardly could have been more prophetic; terrifyingly, tragically prophetic for the man who was raised as his big brother."Jacksonville is a crazy place," Sheppard, the Eagles' Pro Bowl cornerback, said of his hometown on the afternoon of New Year's Eve. As he anticipated an Eagles appearance here in Super Bowl XXXIX, he allowed, "I don't see myself progressing there."He spoke of Jacksonville's problems - mainly a recent increase in violent crime that is being dealt with by a sheriff's department under U.S. Attorney and FBI investigation following a pair of deaths of suspects in custody in December. He spoke with eerie prescience.Eight days after Sheppard spoke, his cousin, Terrell Buiey, was gunned down in a shootout in his apartment as his family looked on. He was dead by the time the police arrived, the victim of an apparent robbery attempt, according to Sheppard's mother, Keta Buiey. She said two gunmen wearing ski masks kicked in Terrell Buiey's door just before 9 a.m. Saturday morning and demanded cash and jewelry as they held guns to the heads of his wife and stepson, who pleaded, "Please, don't kill my daddy."Fearing for his family's safety, said Keta Buiey, Terrell Buiey retrieved a handgun and fired. The gunmen fired at him and fled, empty-handed.By the time police arrived at the apartment, located virtually in the shadow of Alltel Stadium, site of the Super Bowl, Terrell Buiey was dead. He was 26.Citing the ongoing investigation and with no suspects apprehended, Jacksonville police refused to supply specifics of the incident - which could have been much worse.Sheppard's brother, Daniel Kohn, 18, was also in the apartment. So was Sheppard's stepbrother, Octavius Buiey, 17. Odds are, considering Terrell Buiey's place in the family - he essentially was everybody's big brother - Sheppard might have been there, too. After all, they were raised as brothers in the same house their whole lives. That's all Keta Buiey can think of right now: How much worse it might have been."It could have been Lito," she said yesterday from her home in the outskirts of Jacksonville, a home Lito bought her 2 years ago as a wedding present - a sanctuary far from both the shooting site and the place Lito grew up, near William M. Raines High, an area he called a "ghetto."It could have been worse, but it was plenty bad enough."It was really a tragedy," Sheppard said Monday, shaking his head, unwilling to comment further. He'd had a tumultuous couple of days and he faced a week of further strain.Sheppard flew home Saturday afternoon, just hours after he learned he would start in the Pro Bowl. He returned to Philadelphia for Monday's workouts, his mother said. He will stay in Philadelphia until Friday, when he is expected to leave after practice for a wake that night before the funeral Saturday.Terrell Buiey was supposed to be doing the flying this weekend. He was due to arrive in Philadelphia on Saturday as Sheppard's guest at the NFC Divisional Playoff game against the Vikings on Sunday. Terrell Buiey was supposed to cheer Sheppard on as Sheppard dealt with Randy Moss.Buiey would have cheered the way he did when Sheppard helped Raines High win its first Florida Class 4A state title in 1997, a feat neither current Eagles Pro Bowl safety Brian Dawkins nor former Eagles Pro Bowl wideout Harold Carmichael managed as Raines Vikings.Terrell Buiey was supposed to help host Sheppard and his teammates if the Eagles made it to Alltel Stadium; after all, Buiey's place at the Summer Oaks apartment complex lies within sight of the stadium, just across the St. Johns River.Sheppard, 23, anticipated a joyous homecoming in 3 ½ weeks. Now he dreads a tearful return in 2 days. He put on a brave face for reporters at practice Monday. His mother was not fooled."He was devastated," Keta Buiey said of Sheppard, who raged at what he perceived as the injustice of Terrell's murder. "He was very angry. I know he's going through it. Terrell and Lito rode together. They fought together. They did everything together."Terrell Buiey's mother and father gave him up to Keta Buiey's mother when he was an infant, Keta said. She moved back into her parents' home just before she had Lito. When she moved out 12 years later, Terrell went with her. He grew into a 6-foot, 320-pound teddy bear, she said."He was a sweet, smiley person," Keta Buiey said. "He and Lito were a lot alike."Terrell Buiey worked in customer service at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida. Keta also works there, as a security guard. Her bosses made her take yesterday off. They also knew that her nephew's death would take a toll on workers as the news spread Monday."They brought in counselors [Monday]," Keta Buiey said, "and they had to shut the phones down for a couple of hours. Everybody loved Terrell."Not everybody."There's a lot of jealousy in Jacksonville," Keta Buiey said, her steady voice warming. "This stuff happens all the time. Crime is a big problem in Jacksonville. They just don't like to publicize it."Unfortunately for the city, the family and the NFL, when a favored son's big-brother figure gets gunned down in his living room just days before what might have been a super homecoming, plenty of publicity follows.
