Derrick Gunn of Comcastsportsnet in Philly just reported the Eagles are set to sign Jeff Garcia as the primary backup to McNabb as early as Monday.

This news was secondary to reports the Eagles were to sign Center LeCharles Bentley.

Also the Eagles are expected to release Mike McMahon and Koy Detmer.

Great moves

Can't say I'm surprised....Garcia as an Eagle

Adding the right new group of vets (Givens or Moulds, for example, a solid LB upgrade) and draft picks would breathe new life in that locker room.

Upgrading the line(s) and a solid #2 QB (Garcia?) would show more faith in the 2007 campaign.

Games against NO, SF, HOU, TEN and GB also help.
Not sure who that jeff_eaglz guy is, but he seems to know a little something ;) .

Well he did score like a 47 on the Wonderlic! :nerd: And we all know that that directly correlates to success in the NFL.

It's a good signing for Philly (assuming it occurs).

They've needed a solid 2 for years - haven't had much in a while. Last year proved to them that they can't skimp there.

It is the same guy. Pasquino is his married name.

Maybe TO will reconsider his prior actions, make amends, and profess his love to play for his favorite QB in Garcia.

Hmmm....

you guys did see Garcia play last year, right? He's done as a QB in the NFL. you'd be better off with McMahon.

Agreed.Jeff Garcia is a very old 36. His play has regressed in each of the past 5 seasons. The only thing keeping him around at this point is his knowledge of the WCO.

Wow, so the Eagles didn't have to adhere to the 72 hour delay of free agency? How can they be ready to sign people already, wouldn't this be tampering? I think people are interpretting (sp?) the interest that team has for a player as "they are ready to sign him."

Much like the Bentley situation, let's wait to see them sign on the dotted line before we spend too much time analyzing the impact. Garcia, unlike Bentley, isn't going to have many suitors so I do find this particular story easier to believe without a signed contract in hand. It'll be interesting if this deal happens, Garcia and McNabb can sit around and rant about what a PITA T.O. is :)

Thuper move for Philly!

He can be reunited with Marty Mornhinweg!!
Mornhinweg was SF's OC from 1997-2000. Garcia's first of four Pro Bowl years was 2000. Their history together, while limited, was exemplary.

Additional Rumors on 610 yesterday afternoon:

Eagles looking to target Givens and Barber on top of Bentley and Garcia.

This could well be a very interesting FA.

:goodposting: Garcia is washed up.

Seems odd to me all the other NFL teams are keeping quite about their F/A plans, but Philly has got such big head start on everyone. Luky them. :P

Garcia is a WCO QB that doesn't mind holding the clipboard. That's what the Eagles need. They can't go with someone who may have starter aspirations (Aaron Brooks) or isn't a WCO type QB (i.e. Collins).

Garcia will also be (relatively) cheap.

Ideally, this is a non-issue come September anyway.

Did you miss the 2004-2005 NFL seasons?

So Garcia's going to sign in Philly with the expectation that he'll be the starter over McNabb?
