Eagles sign Curtis (1 Viewer)

I like this move for the Eagles. Curtis should be a solid WR. And, I am assuming he is comes at a far cheaper price then Stallworth.

A little surprised by this deal. I did not expect the FO to sign any FA WR to a long term deal. I guess Donte's injuries really scared them off. Anyway, I think Curtis will stretch the field and do very well next year.

I'd rather have Curtis over Stallworthless. Great move IMO.

Now they can forget drafting one, take D with the first two rounds and maybe land Tony Hunt in the 3rd.

Kevin Curtis to me seems like more of a possession receiver... that's just what pops in my head. I know he was a great #3 in St. Louis last year. Does he have speed to spread the field?

:tinfoilhat:He was one of the fastest guys in the draft when he came out. Definitely does not fit the "white WR" stereotype.

Seems like a pretty solid, if unspectacular WR. I can see 900 yards and 5-7 TD's. Maybe a young Keenan McCardell? In any case, the Vikings should have acquired this guy for the right price. I would suspect the deal he signed is in the 6 yr, 38 million range with $15 million guaranteed. If that's the case, way too much to pay for a #2 WR

Philly will continue to spread the wealth among its receivers. I expect Brown would do about the same as last year, maybe a little better.
Which version of him from last year? When Stallworth was out, Brown was an excellent WR2...when Stallworth played, it was completely hit or miss for Brown to the point that he was practically unstartable.

In 'o5 he started 9 games and put up respectible numbers in another pass happy offense. I think he'll have much better stats with the Eagles. The thing I like most about him is he has only missed 1 game in the last 3 years. highly doubt the Eagles paid this much for a WR. I see somewhere closer to what Brown signed.

agreed. No way he got that much guarenteed $$$$.

I am shocked that the Eagles felt more pressure to upgrade their WR corps than Minn, KC or Tenn ...

There are a lot of teams looking for WR help and not a lot of WR help out there ...

I truly think several WRs in the draft are going to be impact players out of the gate ...

I also wonder what will happen to Bryant, Travis Taylor and Moulds ...

ETA: Houston also should have been more desperate than Philly ...

curtis flashed potential at times to be a good WR2, i don't think he could be a WR1, & may even be better fit at WR3 (though i'm guessing he will start)... he put up some good numbers at times when bruce went down, but did seem to wear down... he isn't that big, very physical or much of an inside presence (doesn't bring a lot to table run blocking)...

i wouldn't worry about cutting into brown's numbers, & he may be good enough to help him out, by being a stallworth-like (not as good, imo, which may be contrarian) presence opposite that defenses will have to respect... best fit probably complementary role, & he could be very good in that capacity... as has been pointed out, he is nothing if not BLAZING fast... i think deangelo hall (?) may have said he was the fastest, or one of fastest WRs he had been tasked with defending, after STL game few seasons ago...

curtis isn't young... he had a mormon mission & so was a 26 year old rookie who has been in league few years... if he isn't 30 yet, he must be getting close, but that said, he doesn't play old, & since he didn't start much, probably has fresh legs & young body, relatively speaking...

i like this move a lot for mcnabb (i was worried about stallworth departure) & westbrook... good signing,(if the terms of contract aren't onerous once details emerge)...

Thu, 15 Mar 2007 14:00:03 -0700

Very surprised. This seems like a reasonable deal for both sides. Seems like he would have gotten more after waiting so long to sign.

Kevin Curtis has 4.3 speed. He's a bit more than a possesion WR.

Really? I thought it was very much on the high side ...Its essentially the same contract signed by Stallworth with a heckuva lot larger signing bonus and guaranteed money if I am reading right ...

Per PFT:

CURTIS GETS $9.5 MILLION GUARANTEED

Various outlets are reporting, and we have separately confirmed, that the contract that receiver Kevin Curtis signed with the Eagles includes $9.5 million in guaranteed money.

Contrary to reports that the deal is worth $32 million over six years, we're told that the base number is a hair under $30 million, with $1 million salary escalators in each of the last two years of the deal that push the total value to just under $32 million. The escalators, we're told, are easily reachable -- and are based on receptions.

Curtis also received a $7 million signing bonus. [uPDATE: We're told that the money will be paid out as a $2 million signing bonus and a $5 million roster bonus.] The remainder of the guaranteed money comes from a fully-guaranteed base salary of $1 million in 2007 and $1.5 million in guaranteed base salary in 2008. His total 2008 base salary is $2 million, and he's due to receive a $1.5 million roster bonus in March of next year.

The deal also has roster bonuses in future years and an annual $250,000 Pro Bowl incentive. [uPDATE: We're told that the Pro Bowl incentive is $200,000.]

Per a league source, the decision came down to the Eagles and the Vikings. Both made solid offers, but Curtis in the end opted for Philly, due in large part to the presence of coach Andy Reid and the string of success that the franchise has enjoyed on his watch.

Last year Curtis' YPA was 17+ yards. Stallworth's was 19 YPA.

However, Curtis was healthy the entire season. Stallworth has a history of hamstring issues keeping him off the field.

OVerall, a good move for the Eagles.

Excellent...nice to see the Birds didn't sit idly by at the WR position. Curtis is a nice fit, and reportedly a great locker room guy too (STL fans, if you could confirm this, I would appreciate it).

Crap.

Good signing for the Eagles, though. I am a Cowboys fan, and own Brown and Curtis in 1 league, and Brown in another. Curtis will be on my trade block.

Maybe when I compare it to the $6 million/season plus $15 million guaranteed that Daniel Graham signed, it looks like a bargain. Also consider that Shiancoe (Vikes TE) got $7 million guaranteed (IIRC)

:bag:The significant increases to the salary cap each of the last two seasons have a lot of people misjudging the financial impact of many of these new FA contracts. The right way to look at deals is as a percentage of cap; and from that perspective we need to discount a 2007 deal by 35%+ if you're comparing it to the status quo from two seasons ago.

Agree, although I don't think it's "they felt more pressure" it's more like the others were sitting around w/their thumbs elsewhere. I know the draft is supposed to be deep w/WRs, but wtfo

I never understood Tennessee's fascination with him...or the Rams willingness to get rid of him...my confusion revolves around Drew Bennett.

Not sure why the Titans would not just keep him over going after Curtis...and not sure why the Rams would rather have Drew over Curtis...

Just seemed odd.

I've been so pre-occupied with the White Elephant draft (see Mock draft forum) that I missed this news!!!

Late or not....

:goodposting:  :lmao: :lmao: :pickle: :pickle:

I was one who felt that Philly did not have to be desperate for a reciever, but it's still an exciting pickup!

I really like Curtis, but think that Stallworth is a much better player - granted, if the substance abuse stuff has any legs, that would make a big difference. Good signing for the Eagles and am glad that I have Curtis on my dynasty squad now - he is a PERFECT west coast offense player!!

So based on this, I see a $2M bonus and a $5M roster bonus sometime in Feb/Mar 08 (which may not happen). $1M in 07 salary. So $3M for '07. Nice deal.Just like what NE did to Stallworth (late Feb roster bonus is big $, which won't count against 08 cap if not paid, and will fit under 07 cap if that's what they want to do next year rather than restructure vets). The cap is slated to go up about $7M next year, so there's little downside to pushing $ to the future.Lovin' this signing. Now draft me a LB please.
