Early Draft - Portis Drafters - Check In (1 Viewer)

A lot of people had the multi-personality, multi-talented Redskin Clinton Portis ranked quite high on their draft cards this summer, top 5 overall by many; a pre-season shoulder injury was only the tip of the iceberg as far as playing time lost, by mid-season poor Portis was off to the IR and heading towards surgeries and the long road of rehab for the next several months.

With the fantasy play-offs now under way how did you make out during the season and how do you look as far as making a run for the Championship?

I had the challenge of picking 3rd in one draft this season and passed on Alexander in favour of Portis and managed a 6-7 record and a play-off berth coming 5th in a 12 team league. My early picks went Portis, Holt, Harrison, Foster, Palmer, Taylor .. so I had a reasonably strong looking squad in a PPR league going into the season, but I've limped like a Portis/Alexander owner most of the year .. thankfully a late round Betts hand-cuff has proven the addage "where possible hand-cuff your stud". A last week of WW eligability pick-up of Cedric Houston is my last gasp hopeful to get me by the opening round of the play-off run ... sadly I face LT & Gore in the opening round so dispite my efforts it's not looking promising.

How did the Portis pick effect you? Are we sure he's not on some cover of Madden somewhere?

:bag:

In my main Zealots league (dynasty) I limped into the playoffs with my Portis/Maroney combo at RB. It's now down to a Lundy/Cadillac (recently acquired in a trade) combo :bag: . I have a puncher's chance thanks to a very strong WR/IDP corps, but I anticipate a quick exit. :bye:

I have the BYE this week. I drafted Portis in the 2nd RD (LT first). Then mananged to make a trade for Ch. Taylor when Portis went down. I think I gave up T. Bell and Jennings (when Jennings was hot).

Hoping that Chester can come back next week...or I'm in trouble.

I took Betts in the 13th round for the handcuff. That is the only reason I'm still in the playoff hunt in my league.

Obviously you had a later draft, post the shoulder injury, so that makes the loss of Portis far easier to deal with, especially with LT as your first round selection ... the post is more directed to managers that used an early first round selection on Portis and have had much tougher struggles to face all season long. To loose a top 5 pick early and often usually spell's a teams demise ... what I'm interested in finding out is more about how teams have fared through that loss and are they still in the running, with any hope at all of making it to and possibly winning their league Championship.

Made playoffs in all 3 leagues with Portis on original roster. Two auction leagues, one draft league. Draft league was just 10 teams, thus deeper at RB. Didn't get Betts in any. Picked up Leon Washington and Cedric Houston in one, and that's helped a lot. Was very deep at RB in the other, with C. Taylor, Bush, and A. Green, and just got Houston as well.

Went Portis, Steve Smith, Randy Moss, Foster... QB was Warner. Wound up 5-8 and obviously out.

I have Portis in 6 of my 8 dynasty leagues. I only made the playoffs in 4 of those 8 leagues. And I only got one bye in those 4 leagues I did make the playoffs. NOT a good year. :(
