Early or late draft? (1 Viewer)

I noticed The FFPC FBG contest is advertising for the 2014 season. I checked their site out and noticed the first leagues will draft on July 5th right up to opening night. Curious as to what The FBG's in here think about when is a better time to draft. Let's say you were only drafting one league, for as much as you could afford, what would be your ideal draft date? Early? Maybe you get the jump on everyone else in regards to a late round gem? Or later, once injuries and camps and the preseason games have played out? Thoughts?

We hold our draft two Saturdays before the first regular season game. We draft strictly via web-site for our league and a few years ago we had a problem with the draft room so since then we have given ourselves an extra week in case of problems. Otherwise it would be the weekend before the first game.

That's good to allow for technical problems. Anyone have a preference based on a draft strategy?

Before training camp. Too many moving pieces otherwise as our draft has a 3 hour allowance per draft pick and takes about a week.

If you could only draft 1 team, then I'd say the later the better but it really depends on your risk tolerance.

I'd want to be past most injuries and camp battles.

Many who play in these events often draft early AND late for the very reasons you stated in the OP.

Good luck!

So much for the research project

For redraft, it has to be late. Ideally after the 3rd preseason game. Nobody wants to see their early round pick be lost for the season before the season even starts. Only thing that sucks with this is if you have a hunch for a guy and he blows up in preseason and it drives his draft stock up, but I'd rather not get a guy that I want then have my guy destroy his knee in a preseason game and essentially lose my fantasy league before it even starts.

In dynasty, any time after the NFL draft is fine with me.
