Early PreSeason Drafters- (1 Viewer)

Our draft is coming up this weekend (12 team redraft). This is the first time we have drafted this early, I wanted to find a way to help teams who lose good players to injury. I planned to limit waiver claims until just before the season started, then allow teams to drop players that have been injured, giving them the first shot at the undrafted players.

Does anyone do something similar? Do you have any better ideas?

It will have to be done manually, and I'm not sure how to keep people from working the system. This was meant to help teams hurt by injury, not to fill out rosters or fix draft day mistakes. What kind of groundrules should I set up? Can't drop a player drafted after the 8th rd? Or should I individually approve each dropped player? I'm trying to keep it simple and fair.

Any advice/your experiences are appreciated.

How is a pre-season injury any different than one during the regular season? I don't see why you need to make any special arraingments.

I think he's talking about having your team drafted and sitting on the shelf for 4 weeks. Every year 2-3 big names go down in preseason games and their on your roster for 4 weeks.

Same boat here Lloyd...We're drafting this weekend and we lock it down until after week 1. We just chalk it up to drafting early. We don't normally draft this early but every now and then the only weekend all 12 can get together is early. If someone gets injured in the first preseason game and you just drafted him mearly hours ago, that comes with drafting early and we're all in the same boat. You just hope your number isn't called!

It's up to you. Either open it up a week early only for those with injuries, but I'm sure every team out there could find some injury to place on a busted pick they drafted? Maybe open it up to every team and give them the choice to make one move if they choose? Or lock it down?

We are drafting early for the first time (tied in with golf and a trip to Atlantic City). We added a few extra rounds with a roster cut down date - around the time we would have normally drafted.

Point taken Johnny and Keys regarding devastating injuries happening anytime. There does seem to be a difference though, since normally we draft at the end of August. Those 2-3 big names would not have been drafted in a normal year. The extra spots/cutdowns would help a bit. For a team that really got screwed, though, I was hoping to get them more compensation. The opportunity to get the best player to emerge out of training camp would do that, I think. The hard part is managing the process, as people will work the system to their advantage.
