Ebola (1 Viewer)

Okay. And? Do you have proof the CDC has been wrong about this not being something Americans need to worry about?
I have proof in that there are a few cases in the US right now, and clearly we are unprepared in terms of handling people with ebola. \

Whatmore proof do you need?
Having it under control and not being anything to worry about doesn't mean there won't be a few isolated cases.
Again, in case you missed it yet again........................it would take MORE TIME for more cases to pop up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Learn more about the ####### virus, please

Can't believe I actually agree with Stinger Ray on something- but he's 100% right.

Ghostguy, you're exactly the sort of person who makes these situations far worse. You panic and call for extreme actions, and you spread fear. Whenever people like you have gotten loud enough, it has always resulted in calamity for this country, far worse than any disease has.
Actually no, I am not doing or changing anything.

I think closing PNC bank in Brecksville is totally unnecessary.

You are confusing what I know and my concern with panic. I am not panicking at all. I am simply aware of how serious it is.

Did you or did you not call for a plane to be incinerated?

And they've thus far been absolutely right.
Sure, but now were are totally unprepared for it, and it's here. Thats his point
They've been totally unprepared for it. They've lacked proper protocols (either not having one or not following it). They sent an infected patient back into the public by an awful mistake.

And we're still at what, 2 infected people?
Again, you have no idea how this disease works.

It takes nearly two weeks and up to 21 days for people who have the disease to show symptoms. How dense can you possibly be???

NOT ENOUGH TIME HAS PASSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LEARN TO ####### READ
WE DO NOT HAVE TIME TO WAIT AND SEE IN 21 DAYS WE WILL ALL BE DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Again, yes, but as already stated, I did not expect or want that to actually happen.

However, that plane is being quarantined, and 20+ nurses that were on that plane coming back to cleveland are now on 21 day paid leave.

You know nothing of me or my knowledge of this virus.

You know nothing of me or my knowledge of this virus.
Then why are you saying we ONLY have 2 cases??

You clearly dont realize that it would take more time before knowing what we really have on our hands.

And still have not got one single answer on this question..........

For those of you thinking this is nothing, what do you need to see before you actually think we have something very serious going on?

I have proof that American hospitals have a 100% success rate of curing Americans with ebola.
Yeah, 1 person, with every imaginable resource. Lets see how good they are when a lot of people get it.

I live less than 4 miles from Presbyterian and am flying Frontier EbolaAir in a couple weeks.

Guess I better prepare myself.

Reading the comments there, I'm convinced at least 30% of the people in this country are certifiably insane.

Two, actually But don't let the facts get in your way.

Again, not saying I am on board or agree with how all this is going down, but just sitting here at work in the last hour I have learned:

PNC band closed tomorrow (and who knows how long) due to workers coming into contacts with someone who currently has ebola

20+ cleveland area nurses are on paid leave (possible quarantined, not sure yet) because they were on the same plane coming back from Dallas that someone with known ebola was on.

There seriousness of the situation has already started and will begin affecting people shortly. Well, starting tomorrow actually. Thats 20+ nurses who need to be replaced for a few weeks. Not easy. Not a good thing going on, clearly. I just have to hope everything around here doesnt get shut down, cause despite what some of you seem to think abotu me, I do NOT want that to happen nor think it should. But it is.

oh, pardon me, two. Holy ####, string me up now.

Lets see how this nurse fares. Hopefully well. It helps with the best of the best on the case.

So you'll shout from the rooftops about how horrible/dangerous/communicable it is, but then lament the fact that people are overreacting.

Good work, doc.

Good to see we're all informed about what ebola is and how it can be spread.

But hey, at least the mortality rate in the US is zero % right this second.

Serious question for those of you that arent worried (yes, serious question). Just curious. What exactly would you need to see happen for you to actually be worried? As in, how many people need to contract the virus in how many different cities? Chances are nobody answers this seriously. Going out on a limb, cause you dont know enough to even know how to asnwer it.
Here's where I get worried.

Someone in America with no real known F2F interaction with an Ebola patient comes down with it.
You know nothing of me or my knowledge of this virus.

As mentioned before, mass panic and chaos is the worst thing that can happen. Those would be ACTIONS, not me knowing and stating how serious the situation is.

PNC band closed tomorrow (and who knows how long)
Strange that there have been no official announcements about the bank being closed tomorrow. Nothing on their website, nothing on their Facebook page, nothing on either of their twitter pages, nothing on Google, nada.
Did the Cleveland clinic, UH, and other area hospital post about the 20+ nurses on paid leave?

You think PNC want to advertise they might have some ebola in the building?

Wait, what? You think one of the largest banks in the entire country is shutting down operations indefinitely because one of their tens of thousands of employees may have been in the vicinity of EbolaNurse? :lmao:

9,000 cases reported world wide, most of them in 3 countries with a population of 20 million. And this is the "breakout". Now the WHO warns that the 9,000 figure is lower than actual, so for the sake of conservatism, lets make it 100,000, over 10 times the reported number. That still represents .5% of the entire population.

That indicates to me that when the doctors tell us this is a very difficult disease to contract, I think they are telling us the truth.

There were 3 aid workers who were cured, 2 at Emory and 1 in Nebraska.

Currently under treatment are two nurses who were infected by Duncan (who died). Also under treatment in Nebraska is the cameraman who came back from Liberia that half the thread wanted to leave in Africa to die.

The situation could become serious. But right now it isn't actually all that serious. As long as the CDC stays on top of things we should continue to have little reason to worry. One bonus of all this panic is it's caused a great deal of research to suddenly be thrown in Ebola's direction. That should leave us even more confident. At least in America. Africa is still dangerously close to being even more screwed than they currently are.

Here is what I'd like to know....How is the medical community going to treat flu-season, being that the flu and Ebola mimic each other as far as types of symptoms. Somebody goes into a family practice , are they going to be able to differentiate between the two?...Are they going to have the tools to do so? How many ebola patients are going to be sent home with the diagnosis of the flu only to infect others with ebola....This is going to get a lot more murky before it gets clear.
Yep. I don't see how a doctor could possibly solve this conundrum with one question.
What is the question Cliff? Have you been to West Africa or been in contact with anybody from West Africa? " Well Doc. I know I haven't been to West Africa, but as far as contact with somebody who has...I don't know....I ate at the Buffet near the Dallas hospital....I took a #### in JFK Airport before noticing it looked like somebody vomited in the stall, I used a pay phone at a local convenience store in the section of town they call Little Liberia...I f**ked a nurse last week".
Is this schtick? Or is this truly over your head?
Is what truly over my head....The fact that eventually ebola patients will be walking around unintentionally infecting people with their bodily fluids......It isn't like it is happening any other place in the world....Oh that's right only 4,000 people have died in West Africa with another 4,000 or so infected. Get a clue Matt...Oh by the way you can't get it casually, but they still took the Cleveland plane out of service once they realized an Ebola patient flew on it.
Do you realize that in addition to fluoridating water, why, there are studies underway to fluoridate salt, flour, fruit juices, soup, sugar, milk, ice cream? Ice cream, Mandrake? Children's ice cream!...You know when fluoridation began?...1946. 1946, Mandrake. How does that coincide with your post-war Commie conspiracy, huh? It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? A foreign substance is introduced into our precious bodily fluids without the knowledge of the individual, and certainly without any choice.

Yeah, you're just educating. And I'm sure your personal interactions are as measured and rational as your comments here.

Wait, what? You think one of the largest banks in the entire country is shutting down operations indefinitely because one of their tens of thousands of employees may have been in the vicinity of EbolaNurse? :lmao:
think? ONE branch, in Brecksville, is closed tomorrow for this specific reason.............as told to me by an employee that works there.

ONE bank in ONE city, for ONE day as of now (and she was not told how long it would be).

I never said they were shutting down operations nationally, did I?

What is irrational that I have said besides incinerating a plane, which at no point was I serious about (a plane by teh way that is quarantined, as well as people who were on it are being monitored and on paid leave)

It's not always what you say, but how you say it. If it was just me saying you're coming across as a total wingnut, it would make sense to be dismissive. I'm clearly not the only one, however.

Yes. And thus far there have been no reasons for panic.

I didnt take blogging classes. My bad.

I am one of the last ones to "panic" out of anyone I know. I just know how potentially serious this is. This is a message board.

And at no point did I try telling any of you to do something, did I?? Did I tell people to hunker down in a shelter with water and dry goods?? Did I tell anyway to burn bodies? Did I tell people not to go to work, or to the store, or out in public???

However, I definitely think this is way more serious than many of you, obviously. And some of you are saying things that show blatant ingorance to some of the facts regarding the virus itself.

For example "we ONLY have a few cases"......................when it's basically impossible for there to be more as THIS TIME. Stuff like that is probably what it turning on my wingnut button

BUt NOW is the time to be VIGILENT for the CDC and hospital, not when we have 50 known cases.

DA RAIDERS said:
Do these nurses have access to the Internet? Maybe its just me, but I would give the ole CDC website a look see if I was caring for someone with mother####ing Ebola. Instead of relying on marge, the floor nurse, from bum#### west Texas for my infectious deasease protocol.. Call me crazy.
Apparently there is no protocol.

A union made troubling allegations Tuesday about the Texas hospital where a nurse contracted Ebola, claiming "guidelines were constantly changing" and "there were no protocols" about how to deal with the deadly virus."

"The protocols that should have been in place in Dallas were not in place, and that those protocols are not in place anywhere in the United States as far as we can tell," National Nurses United Executive Director RoseAnn DeMoro said. "We're deeply alarmed."
http://www.cnn.com/2014/10/14/health/texas-ebola-nurses-union-claims/index.html?hpt=hp_t1

At first, protective gear nurses were wearing while treating Duncan left their necks exposed.

After expressing concerns that their necks were exposed even as they wore protective gear, the nurses were told to wrap their necks with medical tape, the union says.

"They were told to use medical tape and had to use four to five pieces of medical tape wound around their neck. The nurses have expressed a lot of concern about how difficult it is to remove the tape from their neck," Burger said.

At one point during Duncan's care, hazardous waste piled up.

"There was no one to pick up hazardous waste as it piled to the ceiling," Burger said. "They did not have access to proper supplies."

Mrs SB works in healthcare and just flew to :drumroll: Cleveland this Sunday.
That's nothing... I live in Cleveland and I am flying to Dallas on Monday for a week....... not that I am a healthcare worker or anything, but needless to say the wife is um.. not pleased.
That is nothing, I work in the Dallas Presby OR all the time. Have been there several times the last couple weeks. Will be there again tomorrow.

Should I panic?
You should volunteer, screw ebola FBGer's would kick its ###.

Who has said hospitals and the CDC should not be vigilant and prepared?

If that is true, I would hate to meet any of the people you know. Seriously.
Dont confuse worry with panic.

If it sounds like panic, it's probably because I am amazed at some of the comments showing otherworldy lack of knowledge about ebola, that and the obviousy fact that most in here dont seem to think this is very serious.

Who has said hospitals and the CDC should not be vigilant and prepared?
Well, for one, the hospital WASN'T prepared if a worker was infected.

Not to mention allowing that worked to travel across country after working with somoene with ebola. Does not sound prepared to me.

Ask me in three weeks

The thing that really sucks is that while this is not a threat in the US, it is a very real problem in Africa. And once America is Ebola free, the media coverage will stop, but the need for resources won't stop. We are a fickle bunch.
