Ebola (2 Viewers)

I feel like this thread is staring to mutate and multiply at a faster rate. There has been enough verbal diarrhea that it would be impossible for this not to spread to other threads. I am afraid there is no hope left for humanity.

Its time we Nuke the thread.

I'd pilot it.
Then clearly you know everything there is to know about ebola. You are just stupid and dont care. To each his own.
I have not shown the level of stupidity you have.
If you think that plane is just dandy, then you surpassed everyone's stupidity level. Like I said, you just dont care. To each his own.
You very much sound as though you have no idea how ebola is transmitted, and how long the virus can live outside the body.

Cause if you do, then you are just being stupid for fun. In which case. bravo

What about all the other planes that people with Ebola have flown on? You are a total mental midget.

Yeah, and we have an ebola outbreak. Go figure.

You also do realize (though you probably dont) that the person has to be symptomatic for the disease to be spread. This lady was symptomatic..........on a plane...........for several hours.............from Clevealnd to Dallas....................less than 24 hours ago......and the disease likely came out her body in several different fashions on that plane, and is laying around in there in several spots.

The virus lives outside the body for several days on average. Do the math, if you can.

It's funny how people downplay #### and it's so impossible to spread yada yada yada

First we had one case with 25 or so people being watched or quarantined. Now we have 3 cases, and a lot more people will be quarantined. I'd be betting that there will be more than 3 by months end.
Who's saying it's impossible to spread? Measles, mumps are far more contagious and kill hundreds of people, infants, every year because wing nuts won't vaccinate. Dont see that as the lead on CNN 24-7
Hundreds don't die every year in the US - not sure where you are getting that info.

The reason we don't see it as the lead on CNN is because, while measles and the like are far more contagious - the diseases are also far less lethal and very treatable.

At best the current Ebola outbreak has a mortality rate of 50% - likely it is much higher.

Also, it would appear that we are rather overconfident in our ability to prevent the spread - or we are underestimating the ease/level of contact needed to spread the disease. If it was truly as hard to spread as many are claiming we wouldn't have healthcare workers getting sick. IMO, another red flag is that these healthcare workers don't seem to be able to indicate the point in time where they ####ed up and exposed themselves.
The mortality rate of American citizens treated in the US is 0%. Clearly it won't stay there, but currently it is 0%.
Why the need to qualify it as American citizens? Wasn't Thomas Eric Duncan in the US before he exhibited symptoms? Didn't he got to the hospital fairly early after exhibiting symptoms?
no, they sent Duncan home when he showed up at the hospital with symptoms of Ebola and Duncan telling them he came here from Africa.

so? not like it was a big deal? probably over reacting like the president and his CDC.. plus he wasn't even from here, so who cares?

So the bottom line is a nurse that knew she was not allowed to take public transportation, took it, Regardless of the fact she may or may not have had a fever (she did)--she was not allowed to travel. CDC would have arranged for a charter flight or a private car, but no, she traveled and put countless people at risk.

This isn't Obama's fault, Bush fault, the CDC's fault--this is the action of one selfish person and lets hope no one pays for it. Bottom line, if you are a direct provider of care for an Ebola victim, you need to be quarantined for the required 21 days. Since there are so few cases in the US, this wouldn't be a huge inconvenience for many people and the benefits would limit the possibility of exposure to new people.

If we are not going to limit air travel into this country, the above, would at least stop the spread of the preexisting cases we have here,
according to CNN, she did call the CDC and told them she had a slight fever and was given the OK to board the plane.. CDC is to blame here if anyone on that plane gets infected
This is pretty outrageous.

keep on blaming Obama. We got this

Good to see we're all informed about what ebola is and how it can be spread.

But hey, at least the mortality rate in the US is zero % right this second.

Serious question for those of you that arent worried (yes, serious question). Just curious. What exactly would you need to see happen for you to actually be worried? As in, how many people need to contract the virus in how many different cities? Chances are nobody answers this seriously. Going out on a limb, cause you dont know enough to even know how to asnwer it.

I don't get this. I self quarantine if I think I have the flu. I can't imagine exposing people if I have a fever and I've just treated ebola patients.

Here's where I get worried.

Someone in America with no real known F2F interaction with an Ebola patient comes down with it.

If ebola spread enough to cause a disruption to Netflix, I might not be able to stifle a scream.

I am sure she didnt sneeze or cough one single time, and that there is zero chance any saliva was on any cup touched by anyone, or that she never once touched her mouth then touched something else.

I never said she was going all exorcist blowing chunck on everyones face.

i am sure whoever was monitoring her stood right there and made sure she never moved once single time. Sure.

OK, so how many people will catch Ebola from that flight?

PROBABLY none, but enough of a chance to be very worried about it. It only takes one. But it's impossible to quarantine everyone she came in contact with in Akron, at the airport, and on the plane.

It isnt even only about the flight, it's also about the day or so leading up to that where she was in contact with a lot of people all over the area.

Ok then how many people will be get Ebola from her prior to being hospitalized?

Shouldn't it go without saying that anyone that has cared for an end-stage ebola patient should have their travel limited for a period of time? Who the #### is running the asylum?

I have to believe in the expertise of the CDC (because what other option is there?), but hasn't anyone considered worst case scenerios and put rules in place to minimize their chances? As a bit of a hyopchrondriac paranoid, I've been running these kind of things through my head for months. Nobody at the CDC is being paid to do these things that I'm doing for free?

This is impossible to answer you do realize.

But the answer, again, is PROBABLY none................is "probably" good enough for you?

I survived both when I was a kid - no big deal.

Started a disinfectant spray fight with my wife. I walked up to her, handed her a can, and promptly sprayed her in the face. I got the entire house sprayed without causing mass panic.
