Ed Hartwell cut (1 Viewer)

Lemar Marshall is still there and could be a threat to Brooks.

Mean Jean is Brooks going to line up as an end on third downs?

If so that should skyrocket his value correct?

That would have to increase his value. I'm wondering how the other DL were lined up when Brooks was at end.

The number of preseason snaps Brooks got at end is deceiving since Robert Geathers wasn't playing in any of those games. The nickel front four are very likely to be Smith/Robinson/Peko/Geathers. I suppose Geathers could move inside for Robinson, but Brooks isn't good enough to force that change in alignment. We've heard about the coaching staff's fascination with Brooks' pass rush "skill" since before he was taken in the supplemental last year. I think they'll move him around as a rush backer in some passing situations but I'd be surprised if it happens often.Marshall won't be a threat to Brooks. He's going to spot-start for Rashad Jeanty as SLB for the time being and be a special teams guy. Brooks is going to have to be very, very bad to lose his starting job. Marvin Lewis had some very nice things to say about Hartwell this afternoon and it won't be surprising to see him back after Week 1 if no one else grabs him in the meantime.

I don't know Jean ... Lewis and Hartwell have history and maybe he's just being nice to a guy he has alot of respect for. I would not be bit surprised to see Hartwell's playing career over.

Not trying to pile on, but put me in the group that thinks Hartwell might retire. If he doesn't, I don't think he'll be anything more than a backup for another year or two before hanging them up..
