Great news for the Ravens. Troy Polamalu, his agent and the Steelers are paying close attention.

The Ravens and Pro Bowl performer Ed Reed have reached an agreement on a six-year contract extension which will make him the highest paid safety in the NFL, according to team officials.
Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome confirmed the agreement to The Sun Tuesday afternoon. The deal will carry through until the end of the 2012 season. Terms of the contract were not available, but according to a league source, Reed will make anywhere between $15-16 million in guaranteed money.
Reed, about to enter his fifth season, was the Ravens' first round pick in 2002. Last year, he had only 40 tackles, but missed six games with an ankle injury. He emerged as one of the league's top players in 2004 when he intercepted nine passes, had 80 tackles and was named the Defensive Player of the Year.
Reed had one year left on his current deal, but the new one might allow him to retire as a Raven.
"It is one of those things removed from his plate," Newsome said. "He is deserving. Now he can concentrate on football this season and for the rest of his career as a Raven."
