Effect of Sam Baker Injury on the ATL offesne (1 Viewer)

I wasn't big on Steven Jackson and Devonta Freeman to begin with, but the Baker injury bumps them down further in my rankings. Not sure what to do about the elements of the ATL passing offense. I will likely keep Julio and Roddy White around the same area but may move Ryan down a tier. This is eerily reminiscent of how the Falcons season started to spiral last year.

How are you guys adjusting your rankings/draft strategies based on the loss of Baker for the year?

Baker sucks but his back-ups really suck. As a Falcons fan, I really haven't liked what I've seen in preseason so far. I know it's only preseason, but you can still get a sense at the overall level of play, and that hasn't been good.

I'd definitely drop down the RB spot - I'm also dropping down Toilolo from sleeper status because I suspect Bear Pascoe will be in more for his blocking. We're going to throw and throw a lot so for the sheer volum of it, I still like Ryan and the WRs.

As of now, this is a 6 win team.

With all due wishes to Sam Baker for a full recovery, as a Saints fan I was encouraged to hear this. I Guess Matthews gets his first start at LT vs the Saints (actually he's probably better than Baker I'm guessing) but Lamar Holmes moves in over Gabe Carimi at RT.

This is from a RW blurb on Holmes from 4/3/14: "He ended up benched at times and finished 75th among 76 qualifying tackles in PFF's grades."

Ugly- I was quietly expecting a nice rebound season for the Falcons, but it's not looking so good.

with all due respect to Baker, he is not an All-Pro. As a long time Falcon fan, the loss of Baker (although not a welcome sight for me) was almost expected due to his and the not surprsing fragile Witherspoon. The loss of Spoon and Baker are not as key as other possible injuries to other more key members to the team....

Most of the Falcons fans I know think 10-12 and I laugh. I keep telling them, my Cowboys and the Falcons will have a good draft pick next year.

Man, I disagree. You know Lamar Holmes is penciled in as a starter now, right? He was garbage last year.

I hear you. My point was more about losing other members of the squad and replacing them (like about 12 of the other 22 starters) would be more key (difficult), so the season isn't lost based on Baker or Spoon.

Also, FYI line coach Mike Tice has been working with Holmes and has talked about his significant improvement over last year...

for those interested, I wrote an article on this subject:

feedback welcome
Enjoyed the article, Matt. Nice analysis.

You mentioned that the FF stats of skill players like Roddy should generally not be affected.

But where Ryan got dinged last year was in leagues that penalize for sacks. After averaging roughly 26 sacks in 2010-2012, Ryan ballooned to 44 last year.

Do you have a Ryan sack projection for this year (maybe a range +/- 5) given the loss of Baker?
