Elements you wished were incorporated (1 Viewer)

I'm toying around with the idea of starting a new Dynasty League and wanted to get some thoughts from those in an established league on what they wished could be incorporated into their league somehow, but can't get the consensus vote or everyone on board to make the change.

I'm personally not interested in IDP, Auctions, Salary Cap/Contract formats (nothing wrong with them, just personally not my thing).....I know that will eliminate about 90% of the responses, but I'm hoping to get some ideas on some more finite details that would really make a new Dynasty League unique.

I already have a number of ideas myself, but always open to more possibilities.

thanks all in advance for the help.

I'm not interested in salary caps, contracts or any of that type of stuff either. Right now, I like the way the Dynasty League I'm in is run. The one thing I wouldn't mind though is if we expanded our rosters from 30 to 36-40 when our rookie draft takes place.

The way it is set up now we have to cut a number of players equal to the number of draft picks we are going to use. The NFL doesn't make teams do that, I don't think our league should either.

I think our rosters should get expanded and then as the season nears we should have to cut back down to 30. It would let you evaluate some of your sleepers you've kept around throughout TC and the preseason to see if they pan out instead of being forced to cut them and watching them find value on someone elses team.

The other members in my league seem to think it's too complicated to do that way, but I think it would be fairly easy to do and be better for the league.

No trades after kick off week 1. At worst... no trades after the NFL trade deadline. Dont care that it is dynasty or not. Trading up until the playoffs is stupid. Incorporate no trading and the league will fun much more smoothly.

Also, a starting lineup with variations would work best. Best starting lineup would be similar to the NFL. 1 QB, 1 RB, 2/3 WR, 1/2 TE, 1 K, 1 Def. There was an thread explaining this more thoroughly but I cannot find it now.

This doesn't only apply to dynasty leagues but something I always thought would be interesting to try especially in larger leagues, 16 teams or maybe more, is only starting one RB and also having to start someone officially listed at FB.

I'm not sure how well it would work but it seems to me it might be something different to give a shot in a startup league where everyone would be able to plan for it from the beginning.

A couple that intrigue me...

1) (idea from rabidfireweasel)....2 options of starting lineup requirements:

1QB, 2RB, 2WR, 1TE, 1K

** if want to start 2RB's than also need to start 1TE

OR

1QB, 1RB, 4WR, 1K

**if only want to start 1RB, than allowed to not have to play a TE at all

2) Each team is allowed to have 1 college player on their roster if they want and can hold onto them as long as they want. The college player needs to have lost at least one year of college eligibility to be drafted. The college player is part of the active roster, so room would need to be made for that player (not a separate taxi squad).

College players can only be drafted during the rookie draft period (not during the in-season weekly FA periods). Once that college player gets drafted into the NFL than your one college player spot opens up for a new prospect. If a college player is ever dropped from a roster than they go back into the pool for everyone at the next rookie draft.

I've heard proposals like this often in dynasty leagues and while they may sound like a neat idea, they would just turn into a fiddly logistical nightmare.

Also, in regards to the 1 college player allowed....the initial startup draft would include all veterans, all rookies and all eligible college players (sophomores/juniors/seniors).

Would be very interesting to see where a guy like RB-Adrian Peterson (Oklahoma), QB- Brady Quinn (Notre Dame), etc. would fall in line with the NFL veterans and rookies. Also, add in the element of needing to sit a year (or more) on a guy like that before they even get to the NFL to help your fantasy team win games. And the added element of only allowed to have 1 college player on your roster..which one is the most valuable given where they could be had in a draft. Many new avenues and strategies could be involved here.

I think when you start allowing multiple college guys per team than it could get a little crazy. But, I don't think keeping track of 1 college player per team would be that big of a deal. I know a site like MFL allows for write in players to be added to rosters so they could be easily labeled. Also, teams would only be allowed to draft their college player during the rookie draft period ONLY...so for that one short time period out of the year it could be monitored pretty easily. After that, the only time it would become an issue is if someone traded their college player....and with the name already in the system it could be tracked very easily.

One idea I never thought of until I started a draft a few days ago is that eligible players in your annual "Rookie Draft" include veteran players as well. The league I'm in stops the first-come-first-serve FA acquisition period a month prior to the draft, then starts it again a day after the draft ends. This happens to be an IDP Dynasty League, so a ton of strategy is involved. You probably need 4 rounds or so to make it worthwhile, but I've enjoyed this draft immensely!

The rookies will typically get picked in the first 2-3 rounds, then the 'veteran run' begins.

One of my leagues uses this and I love it. It works basically just as you've explained it here. I have Adrian Peterson!!!

I would highly recommend the "XL" format -

Start

2 QBs

3 RBs

4 WRs

1 TE

1 K

1 D

(although you could start, say, 2 TE, 2 K, 2 D)

No trades after kick off week 1. At worst... no trades after the NFL trade deadline. Dont care that it is dynasty or not. Trading up until the playoffs is stupid. Incorporate no trading and the league will fun much more smoothly.

Although, I do enjoy year-round trading... I agree with this! Trading should be stopped sometime before the playoffs start... i.e. Week 10 or 9. People that are completely out of it, and simply want to hold their "fire sales" distort the leagues. A team should win based on what got them their to start with - and not based on some last minute trading to acquire Fragile Fred or Gates, etc.

Another minor one that would be a very rare occurrence, but if it ever did happen..

When the NFL has a Supplemental Draft, than our league would hold our own Supplemental Draft a week later and run it exactly the way the NFL does.

The bids would be based on the picks that they own in the following years rookie draft....the highest bid gets the Supplemental player, but they lose that pick in the next rookie draft. (value of next year's rookie picks would be based on the present standings)

Simple solution is once the playoffs start, everyone who missed the playoffs play for the 1st pick. (highest 3 week total) Players don't want to dump their rosters, they want the 1st pick overall.

all the things mentioned are what makes ff more fun..

you and 7 other buds may as well just pick 4 NFL teams, and based on cumulative records, declare a "winner"

booooriiing...

This solves nothing. Having a trade deadline of week 13 is stupid. Follow what the NFL has and things will run much better.

1. Doubleheaders

2, Use bidding for FA rather than worst gets first choice or FCFS. In one league we have 3 periods during the off-season that does this and than bid weekly. Run out of money than trade for it or dont get FA.

3. Use a very flexible lineup like 11 starters with max of 2 QB, 3 RB, 5 WR, 3 TE, 2 K

4. PPR to even the field. Have also seen a different point total for each position with RB .5, WR 1, TE 1.5

5. One league holds the first round of the draft before NFL draft for rookies and other 4 rounds in August. One of my favourite ideas. Just an idea to take up for the inactivity that can happen during off-season

6. Restrict amount of deals between same teams. Thus you better make it good and should make everyone involved

In addition to 1QB, 1K, 1Def, we use the following formations in our league:

1RB-4WR-1TE

2RB-2WR-2TE

2RB-3WR-1TE

3RB-2WR-1TE

3RB-1WR-2TE

What makes it interesting is that the home team gets to dictate the formatiion that will be used by both teams for that weeks' game.

Thus, a team loaded with RBs can be neutralized by a team with good WRs when it plays on the road.

2 top scoring TEs can also change the typical dynamics.

Just an FYI....I'm guaging interest for a possible new Dynasty league involving these above elements I quoted over in the "Dating Game" forum for anybody interested.http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index...howtopic=241404

$5 for the lowest score of the week penalty.

We have a public draft in a bar - The team with the worst record must wear a panty on his head during the first round of the draft. he also must go to the bar and get everyones drinks.

Doubleheaders are fun. Not every week, but once or twice

2QB format put more emphasis on the position but with more than a 10 team league it gets sketchy on how to accomodate bye weeks

Trading all the way through so long as guys have paid up for the following year with possibly some sort of regulations on who you can trade with, such as only playoff teams past week 10, or only those +/- so many spots of your team after week 10 type of thing intended to stop player dumping but still facilitate trades.

5 year league entry fee up front.

So no one diks out if they have a horrible first / second year.

I don't think commissioners should be able to see trade offers from one team to another unless their team is one involved. That's not such much a league rule as an MFL setting which can be turned on or off, but it still affects a league in that trade offers are not private.

Thats a great idea! It actually gives a team home fied advantage.

we have made the qb position a flex option for six years now. works great. you don't have to worry about running out of qbs on bye weeks

Here's how our league handles this issue and it works like a charm (I would recommend EVERY Dynasty League have something like this in place to ensure it's future)....----------------------

Entry Fees are paid one full season in advance. After week 16 of each season a deposit of $75 towards the following season’s entry fee must be received by the Treasurer before any trades (players and/or picks) can be made. Remaining balance of following season’s entry fee is due one month before our Rookie Draft is scheduled.

F. Retirement/Quitting/New Owners

An owner can retire in good standing, but they will not receive a refund. Retirement must be announced one year in advance (before our Rookie Draft) to play out final season and not lose any money already paid in advance. If payment for following year’s entry fee is not received by due date, that is informally announcing a Retirement. Once a Retirement is announced, that owner is not allowed to make any trades (players and/or picks) at any time during their final season. Retirement announcement gives the league one full year to find a replacement owner.

Owners who quit on the league unexpectedly will not receive a refund. The moneys paid in advance for that team will be used towards a new incoming owner’s fees to help in finding a replacement owner on short notice.

New Owners taking over a vacated team must, upon induction, pay balance due of present/upcoming season’s entry fee (dependent on if previous owner retired or quit), and also pay following season’s entry fee in full (entry fees are paid one full season in advance).

Why would someone who is missing the playoffs, trade away their good players? The idea is to get a better draft pick, and doing that ensures you won't get a good pick.
