Eli Manning took 50% of first team reps today (1 Viewer)

Smells like chicken
In what New York Daily News staffer Ralph Vacchiano characterizes as a sure sign that he's pretty close to playing on Sunday afternoon, Eli Manning didn't just throw on the side at practice today. He took about half of the first-team snaps during the team drills.

According to Vacchiano, that bit of information came from his would-be replacement, Jared Lorenzen, who was among the many in the locker room today trumpeting how good Manning looked.

The consensus seems to be that it will now be a surprise if Manning doesn't play against the Packers. Tom Coughlin, though, remained tight-lipped and would only say that a decision likely won't be made until just before kickoff.

You would think that if J-Lo was really going to get the start on Sunday that he'd be taking a majority of the snaps. Especially because this is his 1st start.

IMO he'd need all the reps he could get b/c the Giants sure don't want to be 0-2 with how tough their division is.

If they really do go with J-Lo, Coughlin, would look like an idiot for letting Eli take up practice time that J-Lo could have used to get better for this one game.

Just my view. I think this has to mean we'll see Eli on Sunday. Doesn't mean you need to play him fantasy-wise, but I think you'll see him.

odds are this will be the dreaded game time decision, Not sure I want shockey, toomer or plax in there if Jared is QBing
I don't think I would either. I saw Jared plenty of times in the SEC and the guy is a physical freak. He has a gun and pretty quick feet, but never really was that accurate. His athletic ability always got him out of trouble. Kind of like Matt Jones, JaMarcus Russell, Heath Shuler, etc.(I should mention that I think JaMarcus Russell will be a huge bust.)However, that was college and this is the pros, athletic ability, unless you are Mike Vick, aint getting you out of trouble. So, honestly, and not just b/c I love Green Bay, I think the Giants are scared to death that he might play, and that is one of the reasons that Eli is rushing back this week. If J-Lo plays it's going to get ugly and quick. And let's not forget that they lost their starting RB as well. Not that you can bench Shockey or Burress, but if you do have any other options I would recommend them strongly.

I'm leaning 80/20 toward him starting, however, the Giants better call a lot of running plays because the Packers are going to blitz to test the QB no matter which one it is.

It almost seems like a smokescreen. If all signs are pointing to an increased chance for Manning to play, then they are probably planning to hold him out.

First of If I were an Eli owner or a Giants fan I would be somewhat worried that they are rushing him too quick, The news went from 2-4 weeks i believe, to now he might play.

If you have Plax or Shockey odds are they are your #2 WR or #1 TE so unless you have a great matchup with your #4 WR or a good backup TE you dont have a choice, Plax and Shockey should get you decent points, Ward is not going to be counted on to run the ball for 25+ times so I believe there will be a lot of passing on the Giants side this weekends matchup against the Pack,

Last week I dont think McNabb is fully healthy and made GB look better than they really are

If he's taking 50% of the first team reps, then he BETTER be starting or else it's another **** coaching decision by Coughlin. Smokescreen or not, Lorenzon NEEDS as many first team reps as possible. If he's going to play for sure, then he should've just gotten more reps and Manning less.

If he is healthy enough to play, then he gets the nod in my start 2QB lineup. I think he comes out firing with quick slants and z's just to keep GB on their toes.

I completely disagree. One guy that he might resemble in mindset is Favre when he was much much younger. Jared is just gonna chuck it around. He'll shake off an INT, a fumble, a big hit or anything and get right back up and chuck it again. As some have shown via youtube links he'll get out there and block. The Giants team loves this guy and he fires them up. NFL QB, well that's debatable, but for FF a QB with no conscience is great.Re-athletic ability getting him out of trouble. Why would that matter? This guy can take a hit like few QBs before him. He probably gains a half second knowing he can and not being extra cautious like the rest of the NFL QBs.He is fun to watch. Why wouldn't you want a slinger throwing to your WRs for FF? For FF, and just FF, he seems great. And if Jacobs being out means he has to throw more....bonus!

yeah but we're so close to the summer and I'm pretty sure he played more than Eli this summer. I hear ya but I'm not sure it matters that much really

 I'm starting Lorenzen with confidence this weekend.Well, not actual confidence. It's just a saying.
