The key is to get him some talent. The Giant receivers get NO separation and they led the league in drops this year. People who think Eli is not a good QB just don't get it. Yes, he has some consistency issues, but what QB doesn't when the receivers don't give you anything but a tiny window to throw into, and they drop more passes than any other squad combined with an OL that is very poor at pass protecting? He is an above average QB right now and could be better. BTW, the Giants OL is a very good run blocking unit and that does help Eli, but it would help more if the Ol didn't allow Eli to get hammered back there. For those who don't watch EVERY game the RT and LT each allow one free run at Eli. It happens that often that when McKenzie (RT) allowed it early in the game we joked that at least it is out of the way.Top 5 potential only if he plays only in domes or warm weather climates for the months of Nov/December. The guy cannot play well in cold/wind, which is basically what Giant Stadium is all about.
I've seen every game Eli has started. The jury is still out on him being good as far as I'm concerned. The WRs do drop a ton of passes (I'm talking to YOU, AMANI TOOMER!), but Eli still makes some horrible decisions IMO and hasn't shown tremendous growth since he's been in the league. He's a decent QB, but I don't know if he'll take the next step and become elite. I hope he does, but I'm not convinced yet. Of course, and improved O-line and a healthy Plax could help big time next season. The key is to get him some talent. The Giant receivers get NO separation and they led the league in drops this year. They designed a screw up proof offensive for him. Now we'll see what he does against teams that expect this approach. Now that Manning #3 has got the playoff monkey off his back can he turn it up and become an elite fantasy QB?He has shown glimpses but has been inconsistent. And he has gotten his team into the playoffs 3 straight years. Is top 5 out of the question next year?
I agree he is not elite and he may never be, but you can win with Eli being what he is now with the right talent around him. the Giants are a little too banged up right now to go far and unfortunately I expect Dallas' line play to do the Giants in this week.I've seen every game Eli has started. Its really a shame he can't play all of his home games in a nice warm climate like San Diego.Top 5 potential only if he plays only in domes or warm weather climates for the months of Nov/December. The guy cannot play well in cold/wind, which is basically what Giant Stadium is all about.
Can you elaborate on this please because I don't understand what you are saying? They designed a screw up proof offensive for him. I noticed this as well in the last two games. ..Hey whatever works. One thing that Manning has done in the past two games is fake a pass, hold the ball and then throw. The times he's done this, he has thrown a reception. Of more benefit to him in faking (which he didn't do to any great extent earlier in the season) is that he won't be overly predictable. If he limits his locking onto a single receiver and fakes a pass now and again you'll likely see his interceptions decline.
Yeah, but that doesn't work if he doesn't get the time. earlier in the year they had some planned plays to do this and he was hit as he brought the ball back and he fumbled. of course, everyone was complaining he was indecisive and fumbled instead of delivering the ball.People look for reasons to criticize, but the truth is most NFL QB's can deliver the ball when they have time. I like Eli and have defended him. I don;t expect him to win games, but he should help the team win.Dodge said:I noticed this as well in the last two games. ..Hey whatever works.kentric said:One thing that Manning has done in the past two games is fake a pass, hold the ball and then throw. That's why I say you'll likely see his interceptions decline. Didn't say turnovers since I think that other teams may alter their defences with him and rush more - resulting in more fumbles. I do however think it will end up being a positive as other teams likely won't be so quick to jump the receivers' routes as much.Yeah, but that doesn't work if he doesn't get the time. earlier in the year they had some planned plays to do this and he was hit as he brought the ball back and he fumbled. of course, everyone was complaining he was indecisive and fumbled instead of delivering the ball.People look for reasons to criticize, but the truth is most NFL QB's can deliver the ball when they have time. I wouldn't go out and say he "ditched" the monkey. The monkey is simply "taking a break". I fully expect the monkey to be saddling Romo again after Sunday's game..Now that Manning #3 has got the playoff monkey off his back can he turn it up and become an elite fantasy QB?He has shown glimpses but has been inconsistent.
