Eli's foot getting worse... (1 Viewer)

From the New York Daily News:

The Giants' $106.9 million quarterback has a "stress reaction" on a bone in his right foot, according to multiple team sources, which puts him in danger of suffering a stress fracture. If that happens, the injury would almost certainly end his season.
This confirms what some of us have been saying that Eli is clearly playing hurt and unlike some QBs from the 2004 draft, he doesn't like to brag about it.The big concern here from a fantasy perspective is that with the Giants slim post-season hopes quickly evaporating I can see a solid chance that Eli will be shut down in a couple of weeks putting David Carr in the starting lineup.

Now the few reps Carr has gotten as a Giant seems to indicate that he is not as horrible a QB as he seemed in Houston when you give him a bit of protection, but obviously this will hurt every Giants skill position player.

You think opposing defenses are stacking the box now? Wait until Carr is behind center.

Huh? It's been a terribly disappointing season. I dont know why this would warrant anything more than the frustration we have already had. Eli's had a nice season too, considering the change in WR corps, reduced line play and surprisingly ineffective running game. Not to mention terrible play calling.

The problem with the team has been the surprising ineffectiveness of the OL, combined with the banged up RB group (Jacobs is not running like he was either) and most importantly, the defense. The defense has been awful

When I saw Carr this year (preseason and Oakland game, granted it was OAK), Carr actually looked pretty solid. Honestly, this may not hurt as much as it might appear, since they may rededicate themselves to the run instead of just tossing it up there. I've found the play-calling to be maddening at times this year, and I know I'm not alone.

Understandable. Carr fooled a whole franchise for 5 years. My guess is that you are one of about 3 people that think Carr has what it takes and none of them are even named David Carr.

Clearly, he had talent and ability coming into the league, but circumstance plays a role. Expectations were high for him and he came out of that whole experience a little shell-shocked. I'm not suggesting he's going to be a long-term answer or anything, only that things may not be as bad as it might sound.People said the same thing about Alex Smith and VY... sometimes, a little time off to get right mentally is what these guys need. And, the most salient point I was trying to make is that they may dial things back with him in there which would be good for the NYG as a whole.

I think it is a huge drop off

Fair point about sitting for awhile, but I think except for the few games after he hurt his foot Eli was playing excellent.

Somehow I don't think Carr would have beat the Patriots in the Super Bowl. That pass to Tyree would have been intercepted, or the pass to Burress would have been overthrown.

Everything I've heard from Carr comes from sources in Houston who say that Carr was a clock in and clock out family man devoted wholly to homelife. He was ultra cleanliving, would do the minimum at the facility, and gave everything he had to his family. People described him as a perfect backup quarterback.

It would be nice to see things work out for him, but you don't get to be the best in many fields of human endeavor by committing only eight hours a day to it. Perhaps he is an all-pro father and and a pro bowl husband. Don't know. At least in Houston, people were hoping for more commitment to football. Maybe he's turned the corner in New York.

Here's my  the G-men way over paid Eli. I think his pay day might have been linked to the family name and it's perception "Manning".

With that said I hope they run Jacobs wild these next few weeks.

Nah. He would have been sacked on both plays.

I'm still waiting for that to happen some 12 weeks into the season. Gimme a call when it happens.

:goodposting: Carr might be the worst QB in the past decade. Anytime someone has replace him, the offense improved.
