Ellis Hobbs (1 Viewer)

Any Pats homers, or anyone in the know, know if Hobbs will be the full-time kick returner again this year?
This isn't a fact, but I would think since they need him on defense as their #1 CB, that he would not be the KR. I would think Chad Jackson will be KR.

No. Chad Jackson will return kickoffs and Wes Welker is tabbed to return punts. At some point rookie Matt Slater will likely take over for Welker. BUt for now Hobbs has not been fielding any kicks and I do not believe they plan on playing him on special teams.

Where does that information come from? Hobbs was returning kicks in the preseason and is still listed on their depth chart as the primary kick returner. Jackson did not return a single kickoff in the preseason. They are handing him the job without letting him try even once in the preseason?

Preseason week one, Slater returned 4, Jones 1. (Hobbs injured, did not play)

Preseason week two, Hobbs 2, Slater 2, Jones 1, Morris 1

Preseason week three, Slater 3, Hobbs 2

Preseason week four, Slater 3, Jones 2

Being a starter I'm assuming that Hobbs got less opportunities than Slater because he is the starter and was out of the game before long. I'm not on the inside with the Patriots as far as information goes but the facts as we know them in the preseason point towards Hobbs continuing his run as the primary kick returner for the Pats.

Jones? Do you mean Jackson?

-- Patriots to Release Chad Jackson --

Sun Aug 31, 2008 --from FFMastermind.com

The Boston Globe reports in a surprising move, the Patriots informed WR Chad Jackson this morning that they are cutting him from the roster, according to a league source. Jackson, the team's second-round draft choice in 2006, entered training camp in a battle for the No. 3 job previously occupied by WR Donte' Stallworth. He also took repetitions as a punt returner. With WR Jabar Gaffney seizing the role of No. 3 receiver, and KR C.J. Jones making the 53-man roster, Jackson was apparently deemed expendable.

Well. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Jackson won't be returning anything for the Patriots this year. The blurb above lists CJ Jones as a "Kick Returner" though. Has he won that job and Hobbs is no longer a kick returner?

The Patriots obviously want someone else to step up and return since Hobbs is their best CB. My guess is Hobbs will not return kicks,k but it's a guess at this point.

ellis hobbs returned two kickoffs for 70 yards total. He also had a sack and a few tackles. Not bad, not bad. I get 1 yard for 10 return yardage. Have to pick him up later.

Not bad. But this thread made me bench him in week one. Woe is me.
I don't know of anyone who expected Hobbs to return kicks, especially since he did not return in preseason at all. I can tell you that you made the right decision to bench Hobbs knowing what was known and regardless of the results.
