I coach an eight grade baseball team at my sons school. About three years ago, I went to a coaches meeting and a high school coach there mentioned that he is shocked every year at the amount of freshman that come in and can't properly throw a baseball.

Based on this comment, at the start of this season, I sent an email to the varsity coach at the school my son will attend next year. I explained who I was and that I have four kids on my roster that will be enrolling at his school. I questioned whether or not he has seen things over the years that he'd like his incoming freshman to be better at......that was a month ago. No response.

Was my question out of line? For the life of me I can't understand why a coach wouldn't be happy to have this asked and at the very least, respond to the email.

The guy is a high school counselor, so I'd be shocked if he was too busy to reply.

Just try again, maybe with a different/more intriguing headline. I ignore 99% of emails I get from people I don't know.

If you asked him for input on what would give these four kids a better chance to make the team, I don't think it was out of line at all.

The previous headline was Attention Master Batters. I thought that was fine for a baseball email.
Did you leave the space out between Master and Batters? Maybe he thought you were a dirty old perv.

Should have worked.

Maybe try, "I just turned sweet sixteen, and am totally hot for powerless mid-level administrative flunkies!"
"Before I start high school, is there anything you can teach me?"
