Email To Cellphone? (1 Viewer)

Hey Guys,

I know on my Verizon phone (treo) I can send an email to my phone number @verizonsomething.com (I think it's something goofy like vwpix.com ) and the email shows up on my cell phone like a text message.

Does this work for all Verizon phones?

Does it work for other carriers?

I'm asking in that I'd like to be able to send the FBG subscribers that want it, our Breaking News emails to their cell phones. Obviously, they wouldn't want the 20 page daily updates, but the breaking news mails are short and would work on the phone I think.

If I can send these updates out to an email address that the carrier will route to their phone, that would solve my problem.

But I don't know what other carriers do. Thoughts there?

Thanks a lot.

J

T-Mobile: phonenumber@tmomail.net

Virgin Mobile: phonenumber@vmobl.com

Cingular: phonenumber@cingularme.com

Sprint: phonenumber@messaging.sprintpcs.com

Verizon: phonenumber@vtext.com

Nextel: phonenumber@messaging.nextel.com

Many email providers (gmail and yahoo for sure) allow you to forward emails to another email address based on a subject or other filtered parameters. I actually get your breaking news emails sent to my Gmail than forwarded to my Sprint phone although sometimes the formatting cuts off important stuff since there is a limit per message.

Would actually be cool if you could cut down on the beginning of the subject to save on text limitations. For example, make "Footballguys Breaking News" "FBG News", dunno...

Thank you CA7,Exactly what I needed there. Thanks.J

Joe,

I alluded to this in the FFA post, but what I think would be a good idea for this, rather then learn each cell phone provider etc..

I think that you should give a link on the login page for users that currently log in via pay service.

Give them a form that will allow them to put an email address that all breaking news will be sent to.

This way, we can put in our cell provider #, or whatever forwarding mechanizm we have, it will cover everyone and allow us to change it when we switch providers.

I run an email server, so I just have it forward all messages with Breaking News in the subject from you to my cell.

Just my :2cents:

My company uses this - and it works great. I've got a motorola Q (Verizon), but the site looks like they support other handsets/pda's. It leaves msgs. in your inbox (Outlook, etc.) but sends copies to your phone.

Motorola just bought good.com - so it should only improve over time.

Thanks OC. That's what I was thinking.J

So I assume this means "thanks for the RSS suggestion, code, but we're happy hanging out back in 1999"...

I just make a rule in my inbox with anything from Footballguys-Breaking News, auto-forward to my cell phone. Works well.

I am constantly on this site checking the forums and updates from my phone. I am also checking my email from my phone. As far as i know if you have a web plan on your phone, you will be able to do these things. If i couldn't do those things, work would be a lot harder for me to get through every day.Needless to say i do not have a desk job, or this wouldn't be an issue for me.I also have my email account set up that i get a text message to alert me of certian emails. That way i know to check my email to get the latest news. I think it would be a great addition if you do this upgrade. But at the same time we can get here on our phones already, just so you know.
