Emmitt or Marshall? (1 Viewer)

Better RB

The Emmitt fans have turned into Rodney Dangerfield at this point, "Emmitt gets no respect, I tell ya."

Better question now, where does Emmitt rank all time? Not even in my top 5.... more like 8th.

I feel like his ypc & ypg is really pedestrian considering his line. If we were talking RBs in their prime there is a slew of them I would rather have. I guess longevity has to count for something & funny enough I have the same 7 ahead of him you do in the other thread just in a different order.BrownSandersPaytonTomlinsonDickersonSimpsonFaulkSmith

STOP! Seriously, just make a thread and have everyone post all the running backs they like better than Emmitt. Or make a poll thread and let people vote on all the running backs they feel are better. There is a more elegant solution.

Emmitt was a very, very good RB for a long time.

Top 5 all-time? No.

Top 10? Definately.

That's nothing to be ashamed of. I just wish his "defenders" would stop trying to make him better than he was.

The poll results reflect negatively on The Shark Pool's knowledge is all I'm going to say on this one and that's putting it kindly.

When I read things like it's Marshall and it's not even close over Emmitt I'm not even going to try and debate as it's a lost cause.

Really close for me. I may lean Emmitt but it could go either way. Both all time greats. Emmitt fans seem to be a tad touchy.

They do dont they? And whats funny is no one is saying Emmitt was not good, but Emmitt fans are trying to make it look like Barry sucked and was a horrible person. LOL, I think thats very telling of the fans.

I have had the pleasure of passing by both these guys...

When I was a kid, I went to an autograph signing for Barry Sanders, he seemed very nice and had interest in the people who were coming up to him...small talk a smile, handshake, whatever.

When the Super Bowl was in Detroit, I flew to town to go to the festivities that was happening all week. I seen Emmitt in the Ren Cen as part of some ESPN promotion...He had no care in the world to be there, and he felt like he was better then the rest. That rubbed me wrong. I never held it against his playing ability has he is one of the greats. But Emmitt Smith isnt as well respected by his peers as many believe him to be, and i think when this discussion comes up, most people show by putting Barry ahead of him, as well as a few other players.

If we were ranking fantasy style, he would be at the bottom of teir 1 for me, behind the 7 others I stated before.

this type of junk is "killing" Emmitt. It's the highlight reels hurting his memory in some people's minds. He was nowhere near as bruising a RB as Brown or as fancy with his moves as Barry.Re ypc, ypg- first off Emmitt played a little too long and...yeah so have many all-time greats, big deal. YPC- Ya gotta think about how the defenses knew exactly who was getting the ball, where they were running, and that the Boys did it anyway and were very very successful doing it. There are games those Boys played in that are surely some of the most dominating performances in the history of football. It was mind numbing efficiency and couldn't be stopped.Marshall played in his prime while Emmitt was old. Yeah that's not so comparable, but Emmitt was old then.

I completely agree with both of these posts. Both great RB's.

Faulk vs. L.T. In the next poll? It may be time to give

Smith a bit of a break from the beatings that he is taking. A Sanders vs. LT poll would also be welcome!

Nothing is killing Emmittt, he was what he was, a good RB behind a great OL on a great team. The bolded has to be a joke, the Cowboys had some of the best passing weapons of all the top RBs & the best OL.

You can point to how Emmitt played too long, I will point out how he only had 3 seasons over 4.3 ypc & 1 season over 5 ypc behind an awesome OL. I do think a lot peoples arguement for Faulk over Emmitt is his recieving ability which there is no comparison between the 2.
