I'd guess Pinnock on 1st and 2nd downs, Sproles on 3rds.
I'd guess Pinnock on 1st and 2nd downs, Sproles on 3rds.But I bet AJ takes a day one RB in the draft when Turner moves on.
Maybe... but big-name free agents have never been on A.J.'s to-do list before. The only way I could see this happening is if NO other team is competing for his services and Dillon takes the "Super Bowl contender" discount at a bottom rate.I also would not be surprised if the Chargers took a look at Dillon if they traded Turner.
Not as good as Turner, so if the underlying question is "who's the next Turner", the answer isn't on the roster.Sproles could perform similarly to Kevin Faulk at his best. So, a fair handcuff, but not one that will win the league for you.I also would not be surprised if the Chargers took a look at Dillon if they traded Turner. I don't think any of the other currently rostered RB would be given a huge amount of touches if LT were hurt. Basically, I don't think any of them would be a good handcuff to LT and I think that is what this topic is really about.
Didn't the Patriots win it three times with Kevin Faulk on their roster? It seems that a Kevin Faulk like back up is not a hindrance to win the league then. Particularly when your primary weapon is somewhat better than both Antowain Smith and Corey DillonNot as good as Turner, so if the underlying question is "who's the next Turner", the answer isn't on the roster.Sproles could perform similarly to Kevin Faulk at his best. Agreed. While Brown is no world-beater, he's had some success and would be a capable backup. As things stand, trading Turner for a 2nd and signing Brown wouldn't be a bad move.
I'll throw a name out there, that I think would be a very good backup for LT, as a 6th round pick:Jon CornishSproles is supposedly healthy and ready to go. Pinnock and Sproles can both pick up after LT. I think they'll probably end up drafting someone on the 2nd day.
I like the kid's from Texas in the 5th or 6th rounds.
Dallas signed him a couple of days after the draft last year as a UDFA out of South Carolina and was cut in August, not making the roster or the practice squad (you probably know that, but this is for everyone else, Mister CIA).He was listed in the Scout.com National Top 100 for the Class of 2003 as the top RB coming out of HS (yes, ahead of Reggie Bush), and had a solid freshman year, but a second violation of the school's drug policy led to him being kicked off the team by Steve Spurrier prior to the 2005 season. He had been disciplined the year before by Lou Holtz when he was there, banning him from team workouts for awhile.Having not played now in two years, along with the "bad seed" rep he obtained, it's unlikely he'll ever be an NFL player. What about somebody like Demetris Summers? Is it time to close the book on him? Google gave me nothing.
As a matter of fact .... .... But that is about all I know. The Cowboys' backfield was probably not the best place for him to try to crack a roster, plus he may have had the misfortune of just not being a "Parcells" kind of guy. Still, if he can't make anyone's practice squad, or play in NFLE, I guess that says he's done.Dallas signed him a couple of days after the draft last year as a UDFA out of South Carolina and was cut in August, not making the roster or the practice squad (you probably know that, but this is for everyone else, Mister CIA).What about somebody like Demetris Summers? It'll be nice for Sproles to have someone to push around.I think if Turner goes, SD will draft Fellow NIU Alum Garrett Wolfe
Sproles hasn't been able to stay healthy so I'm not sure if he's going to have much of an NFL career. I do not know if he can handle a spot where the D knows he's going to run and will probably need to be more like an "electric" 3rd down back.Pinnock is better than people think I'd bet. I've rarely seen him but he's a bit of a brutish runner with some decent hands. Tomlinson gets a ton of TDs so I could see Pinnock giving him a breather on a few. I think the Chargers would be comfy on 3rd and 1 running Pinnock behind McNeil.I don't disagree with Despyzer but I think Tomlinson only has spot backups here. Turner sorta overworks his RBs or uses them an awful lot and I expect that of Tomlinson this year. Michael Turner afforded Tomlinson the opportunity to be fresh or somewhat fresh even though the game reached the 4th quarter. Tomlinson will have it a little harder this year. So I don't think it's necessarily so correct to get overly excited about more touches for him. I'd be plenty happy(as an FF owner) with him matching last year's numbers.I still think San Diego signs Dillon if they trade Turner, it just fits too perfectly.I'd guess Pinnock on 1st and 2nd downs, Sproles on 3rds.
