Erasmus James & Matt Roth (1 Viewer)

Does anyone have any thoughts on these two defensive ends? I'm trying to decide whether to acquire some young defensive linemen and know nothing about these two guys. Thanks.

I own both in Z34 and wish I knew what to make of them. At this point, I'm planning to hold on to them until next season and see what they look like. James is a guy I really was high on entering the season, and he had a pretty disappointing year given that I expected him to step right in and do well.

I think James is clearly the guy with more potential, but the Vikings look like they'll be pretty deep at DE next year with Udeze, James, and Scott.Roth is somewhat undersized to play in the 3-4 but does have some long term potential. I think he's at least another year or two away from making any kind of fantasy impact.

I had no Miami players and saw no Miami games this season.Did they use the 3-4 much? Do they plan to use it more next season?

I like James a bit more than Udeze, since Udeze can't seem to stay of the field due to injuries or pain from past injuries. James can't stay on the field due to rookie mistakes and constantly being in Tice's doghouse. James to me looked fat and slow at times out there, didn't see this killer moves he was supposed to have either. I will attribute that to being a rookie, signing late, and the VIkings changing their defensive scheme every other week.James will be playing the RE spot so will be lining up against the offenses LT (usually their best lineman). That might hurt him a bit, but I still really like him. I have both of them on various teams of mine.Don't know anything about Roth.

James appears to versitile in many ways. He caught on late, so he limited production overall. Once he was on the field though, they had him dropping back into pass coverage and such. That to me says more than he was just a rookie and didn't understand. I think James will be fine and expect good things to come from him starting next year. If I recall, Madden commented that James will be similar to KGB in playing style. I think that James started to show that he might be better in that he did decent vs the run and could play zone pass coverage.

Too many factors with James to make a judgement yet. But nice to see him put up some stats late in the year. A full off-season will do wonders for him I think.

And hopefully some positional coaches that know what they are doing.

If you have the roster room, I'd hold on to Roth. A good chance he'll be starting opposite Jason Taylor next season.
