Eric Bienemy takes Vikings RB job (1 Viewer)

Story

I think it's funny the LA Times misspells his name.

I wonder if Maurice Drew is in the Vikings future?
Maybe Brian Calhoun as well? I know he's the reason Calhoun originally went to Colorado.

Intersting as Binenemy has always been a real hot head. My uncle who had Chargers season tickets mentioned that before one of the games I attended and sure enough, he got into a couple scraps during the game. :boxing:

I didn't know he was a hothead, but I was close enough (in the stands) to hear him tear Maurice Drew's head off against Oregon State. It was way over the top, and I don't like Bienemy because of it. He sure has a lot of fans of his work though. I've talked about this elsewhere, but fwiw, Bienemy changed the way Drew plays this year and many think it was a mistake. He made Drew "run the play" and stop looking to break something away from the designed play. Drew loves to hit hard when there is nothing there. He's short but he will slam into LBs and DBs (hard) if he doesn't have a hole. Bienemy would just crucify him on the sidelines for taking unnecessary punishment. So it became, "Run the play as designed and avoid big hits." Drew was better as a sophomore when he was freelancing more.

"Running the play" will probably ultimately help him at the NFL-level, rather than free-lancing.

Questionable hiring, IMHO. I saw enough of UCLA play to know Bienemy gets in his RBs face every time they make a mistake. This attitude won't translate well to the next level.

True, but Drew is one of those rare guys who does some things Sanders did. Letting him create when there was nothing there would probably have led to some very big plays and days. It did the previous year. He was freelancing all day against Washington and it led to td runs of 47, 62, 58, 15 and 37 yards (322 yards rushing on the day). He never did anything like that this year.
