Eric Johnson outlook (1 Viewer)

Week 3 stats: 11 targets, 7 receptions, 87 yards, 1 td

Are those the types of stats we can expect from Johnson while VD is out?

There is also this guy the Niners drafted in round 6, Delanie Walker, who looked really good in the pre-season and is going to come in at the TE position. I wonder if Delanie is going to cut into Eric Johnson's stats.

I have a feeling he's going to put up nice numbres the next few weeks. I'm considering benching Watson for Johnson this week, but that's the kind of decision that I'm afraid may leave me feeling :bag: if it goes terribly wrong. If my balls grow in the next few days, I might do it. Let's not forget, this is a much improved offense, Johnson has a history of being productive when healthy, and Alex Smith is still a young QB who might look to his TE often.

While I don't think 7 for 87 and a 1 TD is likely, I do think he will targeted often, especially if the running game falters with Gore being banged up.

I dropped Michael Clayton last night to pick him up. I'll be short on RB this week, so he could end up in the mix, playing behind RMoss, Bruce, Housh, and Roy Williams. If I get gutless on Moss EJ might get the start. :bag:

Johnson had a great season (considering the state of the 49ers in 2004: 82 catches, 825 yds, 2 td's). He's shown he can play, and now he's fighting for his career since they drafted Davis.

I believe He'll make the most of his chance. I'd have picked him up off the ww but another owner beat me to it.

Johnson is capable of putting up big numbers - I had him in 2004 and drafted him last year. His injuries have been his only real downfall. I'll be starting him over Shockey's BYE this week, and probably for the next several weeks (got him off waivers).

How do you like him in flex leagues over waiver wire WR's like Clayton (Ravens), Henry (possible suspension) & Jennings?

I think those with blind bidding will have a big decision to make. VDavis is only supposed to be gone for 4 weeks last I read. It is a very important 4 weeks of the season. Some teams will be eliminated by the time Davis comes back.

But, how much do you spend for four weeks?

Johnson will be productive for more than just 4 weeks.

So, you see 2 TE sets? How productive? Would you feel comfortable starting Johnson at TE when Davis comes back?I ask because I do not think people felt comfortable starting Johnson before the Davis injury (unless really desperate) and expect Davis to resume his same role after he comes back. I look at it, from a fantasy prospective, as a four week investment.

I've always like him, and he looks like he bulked up some since his last injury. I liked what I was seeing, and if you're going to play musical TEs this year, Johnson's a good choice for the next few weeks.

People did not feel comfortable starting or even having Johnson because Davis was grossly overhyped in his expectations for his rookie year. Even before the injury in the Philly game (the only one I've seen of SF this year) Johnson looked like the better TE. Davis looked like he was having trouble adjusting to the speed of the NFL, as most rookie TEs do.
