Eric Moulds signs with Titans (1 Viewer)

Titans agree to deal with WR Moulds

By PAUL KUHARSKY

Staff Writer

The Titans have agreed to terms with veteran receiver Eric Moulds and he will be with the team Friday at the start of training camp.

The team had long hoped to add veteran leadership at the position, where they are counting on threats to emerge from a group of seven draft picks brought in over the last three years.

Team officials had not expressed an interest in Moulds earlier in the offseason and terms of his deal were not immediately known, but it’s possible that it’s a one-year contract that would be low risk for the team if Moulds doesn’t pan out in advance of the start of the regular season.

Moulds, 34, joined the Houston Texans in April of 2006 in a trade from Buffalo.

The Bills got a fifth-round pick in exchange for the 6-foot-2, 225-pound Moulds who was named to three Pro Bowl teams in 10 seasons in Buffalo. As a Texan he caught 57 passes for 557 yards and a touchdown. With the Bills he played 154 games with 675 receptions, 9,096 yards and 48 TDs.

Looks like 9 straight already...Hard to go down from 9.8 though.
We should change his name to Eric Mouldy oldie. I remember back in 1998 I thought he was going to be one of the most dominating WR's ever. He used to fight after the catch for yards. He played a really physical style of receiving. I really missed the boat on this one. What a disappointment he turned out to be.

For what it's worth...it's also being reported that Brandon Jones and Roydell Williams are to be the starters.

i disagree, he and TD won me two fantasy championships in a hugely competitive leaguei'll take 2-3 dominant years and a quick fade if you bring home the hardware and won't be disappointed at all if that occurs!

Non-fantasy story...good for the Titans as far as a veteran who is a decent possession type WR these days.
I disagree. Very fantasy-related story...for a guy named Vince Young. At least he has something to work with now.
Has Moulds ever been a mentor to young WRs? It seems he could be the guy to take some of these talented but inexperienced WRs under his wing and help the team immensely.

Brandon yes. Roydell, on the other hand, will be lucky to make the final roster.
Ignore the above post. No chance he is cut, and a very good chance he does start.
linkage??Moulds/Gage/Givens - probably in front of Roydell. What about Roby, is he even in the mix.

Boy now that I think aobut it, what a mess. they'll have 6 guys with like 30 catches each

Givens is apparently unlikely to be ready for the opener.

With David Givens still recovering from a torn ACL, Moulds can help a receiving corps where Brandon Jones and Roydell Williams, a pair of draft picks going into their third season, currently are the projected starters.
And from 5/30 LINK
Williams, who battled injuries in his first two seasons, appears to be making the most progress so far in minicamps and has been working at all three receiver positions. Jones has been a bit inconsistent.

As has already been pointed out, Moulds has unquestionably (and consistently) lost his deep speed and is now a glorified H-back. He catches everything thrown his way (he led the league in receptions per target last year in Houston), but can't get deep or generate YAC. While that safety valve will come in handy for Vince Young, you still have to wonder where and how they manage to spread the field vertically. Arguably their three best receivers are now middle of the defense, first down possession guys: Moulds, Troupe & Scaife.

I don't know if he's ever been much of a mentor, but to keep drawing NFL paychecks he needs to make the transition. I don't see why he couldn't do it successfully, and still be a reliable set of hands in the twilight of his career.

You have to have a really, really deep league to even think about Moulds as a legitimate draft selection.

Stick a fork in him, the guy is just looking for a paycheck. A vet's minimum in the NFL as a 4th WR, sure beats a division II college WR coaching job in pay scale.

I can't and won't pick apart the Titan's WR corps, because as BSS stated, "It's a mess."

I wouldn't be surprised if Moulds was cut before the 3rd preseason game, however.

Though, he did have more receptions than any Titan WR did last year.
Before the Moulds signing and after David Givens' injury, the Titans leading WR with the most receptions in a season was Justin Gage with 31. Moulds is looking like a very good option here. He did have 57 recs with Houston last year. That's fairly impressive considering the man-love Andre Johnson gets.
