Ernie Sims to Eagles (1 Viewer)

Filed to ESPN: Three way trade -- Eagles get LB Ernie Sims, Lions get TE Tony Scheffler, Broncos get undisclosed draft pick.
I really like this deal for the Lions. Sims was fast and got to spots in plenty of time, but he never made any big plays and often overran the play. I've always liked Scheffler and he can get deep and is a big mismatch for LBs. This trade is telling for what the Lions think of Sims because they traded him and do not (currently) have a replacement. Makes me wonder if a player like Thomas Howard or Derrick Johnson for example is on their radar. I can't imagine them spending an early pick on a LB with so many other glaring needs.

Jim Schwartz quietly gave Jordon Dizon a fair amount of responsibility last season. Dizon isn't that much different than Sims -- undersized, rangy and brittle -- and he's already proven himself to the coaches in coverage. There are certainly plenty of vets to be had pretty cheaply right now and a number of developmental WLB prospects will be available late, but I think Dizon may have a strong hold on the WLB job. It'll be interesting to see the comments from the coaches on this one. Are they high on Dizon and feel that Landon Johnson can provide enough depth? Or was Scheffler the driving factor in this deal due to Pettigrew's injury issues?

Good points. I totally forgot about Dizon. I think it is part need at TE and part lack of confidence in Sims, especially with his contract expiring after this year.

So what kind of impact does Sims have in Philly? I've been holding this guy for a while and have seriously contemplated dropping him......does the potential come back with the new team?

As a former Sims owner...Sims in Philly = yawnLet another owner reach for him. He's a LB#3 at best. I'd draft him on my squad only as a backup/injury or bye week replacement.

Does anyone know who is going to start at WLB for the Lions now that Ernie Sims is gone? I know DeAndre LEvy is the MLB and also gets a boost in value as well.

Thanks in advance.

There's also been some speculation that the Lions could move Levy back outside and look for a replacement at MLB, but I think that's unlikely based on the strong vote of confidence Levy got from the coaching staff after last season and the comments after Larry Foote signed with Pittsburgh.

There are already Keith Bulluck rumors floating around here. I would be shocked to see Levy at WLB.
