1 Seahawks

High-risk, high-reward move for Percy Harvin got voters' attention. (Sando)

2 49ers

Two-time defending NFC West champs can restock with 14 draft choices. (Sando)

3 Broncos

The Elvis Dumervil debacle aside, the Broncos are winning free agency and giving Peyton Manning all he needs to succeed. (Fox)

4 Falcons

Steven Jackson joins Tony Gonzalez in quest to cap great career with a championship. (Sando)

5 Patriots

Danny Amendola for Wes Welker is an upgrade as long as the former Rams slot receiver can stay healthy. (Hensley)

6 Packers

They were prepared to lose Greg Jennings and can replace him as long as Aaron Rodgers is still in his prime. (Graziano)

7 Texans

Even though the Texans lost pass-rushers Mario Williams and Connor Barwin in the past two years, they still have enough rush thanks to J.J. Watt. (Clayton)

8 Ravens

The dismantling of the Super Bowl champs has been quick and swift. Six starters are already gone. (Hensley)

9 Colts

The Colts picked up five starters on defense in free agency and are looking for a few small parts for their offense. (Clayton)

10 Bengals

The Bengals haven't been aggressive in using that salary-cap room, but they've made it a priority to keep their own free agents. (Hensley)

11 Bears

They finally addressed the offensive line. Opinions abound with regard to how well they actually fixed it. (Graziano)

12 Saints

Saints will presumably pick up where they left off in 2011, as a good team. (Sando)

13 Redskins

No cap room to rebuild the defense, and no guarantee RG III and his knee will be ready for Week 1. (Graziano)

14 Giants

No eye-popping pickups, but no crushing losses either. No reason to think they can't go 9-7 again. (Graziano)

15 Rams

Rams have flexibility with two first-round picks after adding Jake Long. (Sando)

16 Steelers

Backups need to step up after the Steelers parted ways with Mike Wallace, James Harrison, Keenan Lewis, Rashard Mendenhall and Casey Hampton. (Hensley)

17 Vikings

Doubt they could have found a better way to replace Percy Harvin than by swiping Greg Jennings from a division rival. (Graziano)

18 Cowboys

The switch to a 4-3 scheme could help Sean Lee and Jay Ratliff thrive. But it needs safety support. (Graziano)

19 Dolphins

Miami spent $44 million in guaranteed money on Mike Wallace and Dannell Ellerbe. Let's see how much this investment pays off. (Hensley)

20 Panthers

Cam Newton finished strong last season, an encouraging sign for the Panthers. (Sando)

21 Buccaneers

Buccaneers seem just fine playing along with Darrelle Revis trade speculation. (Sando)

22 Lions

Busy, busy. Reggie Bush could give them what Jahvid Best's concussions never allowed him to. (Graziano)

23 Chargers

The Chargers have a new regime. Can new coach Mike McCoy get the most out of Philip Rivers? (Fox)

24 Chiefs

New coach. New general manager. New quarterback. New hope. That all should be worth six more wins. (Fox)

25 Browns

The Browns have spent a lot on defense by adding Paul Kruger and Desmond Bryant. Not sure how that improves the 24th-ranked scoring offense. (Hensley)

26 Eagles

Chip Kelly is working on rebuilding the defense, starting with the back end. Still a question mark at QB. (Graziano)

27 Titans

The Titans needed to be aggressive in free agency. Mike Munchak has to win or else. (Clayton)

28 Bills

New coach and now a new quarterback. The Ryan Fitzpatrick era is over after a disappointing 20 victories over four seasons. (Hensley)

29 Cardinals

Adding Drew Stanton made sense, but won't generate buzz around the Cards. (Sando)

30 Raiders

The Raiders still need to answer the most important question in football: What are they doing at quarterback? (Fox)

31 Jets

Welcome to the Rex-odus. Seven of the 22 starters from last year's 6-10 team are gone. (Hensley)

32 Jaguars

The Jags are moving slowly in free agency, but it still comes down to quarterback play to make them better. (Clayton)

Belichick has reached the same point with a lot of the media that Parcells was at for years: he has done so much right, that they assume any and every move he makes is the right one. Not saying everyone in the media thinks that way, but a lot of them do. His many right moves are genuflected to ad nauseam, and his wrong moves are glosses over like they didn't happen. That is what happens when you are right a lot of the time. Having said that, while it's silly to rank teams right now, NE at 5 sounds about right.

I think there's more than one article on how out of 12 playoff teams every year on average x number fall out and move in.

Personally I'd say the Falcons need to be lower and the Bears are a definite wild card.

Putting the Saints in at 12 is fine, it means ESPN thinks they will make the playoffs but they're not sure where, they're hedging their bets, ok.

Why not move the Skins with Griffin up? He will get them to the playoffs again and he will have a year under him.

Move the Browns, Chiefs and Dolphins up given their offseasons.

I love the Hawks too but they have to win on the road like they win at home. They and the 9ers move from the NFCN to NFCS on their schedule. They also go from AFCE to AFCS with SEA having games at HOU & IND (while SF gets HOU & IND at home).

Colts and Bengals? Move `em down.

So... perfect season? :excited: I think they are headed in the right direction and they certainly figured things out late in the season last year. It's hard to fault a team that started 4-4 and finished 11-5 with a rookie QB. I think the biggest statement was going on the road and winning a playoff game (almost two). The thing that worries me is that the NFL is going to highlight the SF/SEA rivaly in primetime week one and will probably give the NFC champs the home field. Seattle started with a divisional road game last year (loss) so I think it would help them a lot if they could get a home game to develop some rhythm before heading to SF.

Baltimore still might be too high at 8. Would jump the Saints up there if they get a LT. Washington could be higher if we knew the timetable for RG3 coming back. Seems weird to say, but the Steelers might even be too high at 16. Bears might be a tad too high. Colts maybe, but they are only going to be better than last year.

Seattle - SF games are going to be epic. Jax, Jets, and the Raiders could be demoted to CFL at this point.

They fired Pat Shurmur.
It was an incredibly stupid comment anyway given that the Browns were 23rd in defense last year.
It most certainly was. It also ignores the fact that P. Taylor will be back and healthy as well as Haden not missing time due to the suspension. There are a lot of reasons to assume the Clev D will improve on their 23rd rank from last year.

Yep. And if I wasn't a fan, I wouldn't trust the Saints defense until they showed something over a several-week span. I think a March ranking of 12 is generous.
