ESPN Super Bowl 40-man roster show (1 Viewer)

I have been watching it. What do you want to know. No big surprises except maybe Larry Brown was the backup CB to Mel Blount and Herb Adderley.

I've been trying to keep track of this, but I'm afraid I've had too many :banned: to be of any use. :bag:

Riggins and Harris are the RBs...
How does Riggins get that spot over Larry Csonka or Emmitt Smith?
That is a joke. Riggins had a monster performance in the SB win over Miami, but didn't do much in the loss to the Raiders. Heck, Terrell Davis is far more deserving, too.

So, what was the roster? I heard Mike and Mike talking about it some this morning. This is what I got:HC: LombardiQB: Montana and Bradshaw

RBs were Emmitt(40th man voted by fans), Csonka, Riggins, and someone else.WR's were Rice, Irvin, Swann, D Branch (i think), and someone else.

Deion Branch??
I thought Rice and Swann were the starters and Stalworth and the Greenbay Packer from SB1 (guy who was hungover - forget his name) were the back-ups.

I thought they picked three - Rice and Max McGee for sure, then I think Lynn Swann also.

Could be. Pretty sure I saw Irvin and Deion on there, though. Not able to find this silly list anywhere online. Almost positive there were 5 listed. Maybe those were the top 5 vote getters? Deion was on the bottom of the list.

He was 21/276/1 in 2 Super Bowls. Those are tough numbers to vote against.

ETA: Like beto mentions below, he was also a SB MVP.

Tought to pick a team with all the great players. They obviously gave extra credit to the MVP guys like Branch, Brown and Desmond Howard.

I dunno. I caught the end of Stalworth it seemed then saw Mcgee, Swann, and Rice.

I heard this list being discussed on local (Dallas) sports radio a couple of days ago. They narrowed down the QBs to 7 finalists, and they said Troy Aikman was not included. Now, I'm no big Cowboys fan, and you can't argue with Montana and Bradshaw as the top 2, but to not have a guy who won 3 SBs among the top 7 QBs is a complete joke.

Especially with Steve Young and his whopping one ring on the list.

on the show, both Aikman and Brady were mentioned as just missing out to Bradshaw and Montana. I don't think they said that explicitly, but that was the impression left by the editing and flow. They also featured Starr, Namath, Young, Doug Williams.

Namath? Seriously, that's a complete joke.

Unless I'm mistaken, they only used Super Bowl performances to determine the roster, and in that case it is very hard to vote against what Branch has done.

I agree. Namath is the most overrated player ever and didn't even play that great in the Super Bowl. When a team wins 16-7, the majority of the credit should go to the defense, wouldn't you say? And the media loved him because of his mouth, hence, him getting the MVP award. Giving him the MVP after he guaranteed they would win was too great of a story for the media to resist.

Young threw for more TDs when he got his one whopping ring than Aikman threw when he got all three of his combined.

Okay, but I would think a QB who won three Super Bowl's and who had a TD-INT ratio of 5-1 in those games and who won a Super Bowl MVP award would be considered one of the top Super Bowl QB's and at least be up for consideration, wouldn't you? Heck, I may dislike the Dallas Cowboys a great deal, but let's at least give Aikman his due.

I would like to hear some comments from someone who watched the game. In what was obviously a defensive battle, a QB who manages the game effectively, moves his team enough to dominate the TOP, and doesn't make mistakes could be the MVP. Especially if no one ran the ball real well or racked up sacks or INTs.Also, one reason Namath is usually considered for this type of thing is that most believe he made the Super Bowl what it is...nothing to do with stats.
