Eugene Wilson out for the season (1 Viewer)

I don't think it's that surprising, really. This is the drawback of having players move all over the field like the Patriots do. You end up having defensive backs in traffic with guys 100 lbs. bigger than them. It's even worse when you've got so many hard hitters back there.

The Patriots would be wise to draft as deep as possible at defensive back and cycle these guys in and out as often as possible. I think they do that, to some extent, but either they feel like defensive backs are a dime a dozen, or they like a specific kind of player that isn't in high demand.

I hear ya but I'm not sure it's so accurate. Why aren't all the Jet DBs hurt now then? Same system. You've seen how smallish Rhodes is. Mangini's got him in the middle of everything. And why isn't 40 year old Troy Brown hurt? (no clue how old he is really)

I'd like to see BB try and convert a quick "too small" college LB to DB. There's also guys like Thomas Davis and Derrick Gibson every year that due to size might be too slow to play S or somesuch incorrect statement by the draft guys. I'd like to see him get one of them. I definitely agree it's an issue

Why isn't one specific guy injured? I can't answer that. Why are Patriots DBs more likely to get injured than other teams'? I did answer that.

Jet DBs

Coincidence. Bengal LBs have been getting dinged for the past couple of seasons. Saint WRs can't stay healthy either. Nothing particularly special about their usage, scheme, etc. There isn't anything unusual about the coverages inside the Patriot scheme that makes it more likely for Rodney Harrison to blow out a knee or a shoulder blade. Maybe I'm misunderstanding the "move all over the field" comment. But size differences occur in the middle of every field. So do hard hitters. Plenty of teams play a lot of zone coverage with their nickel backs and safeties and stay healthy. As Bri said, the Jets and Browns play the same scheme. Their safety corps haven't seen this rash of injuries.Just bad luck.

Maybe if you offered examples with specific guys your theory might have some weight. Wilson's injury is a hamstring, not the type of injury generally associated with collisions. Harrison's two big injuries the last two years have been on tackles of Cedric Wilson and Marvin Harrison, not exactly behemoths those two.

That's a good point. Maybe it's a matter of wear and tear on their bodies, not just the specific guys they hit. I don't know. I just think there's a reasonable explanation for the injuries, and it's more than just bad luck.
