Everyone sucks? (1 Viewer)

Is it me, or does it seem like there are going to be a lot of very bad teams this year? By my estimates, and those that i have been hearing/seeing on the networks/papers/websites, i have the following teams as potentially pathetic this year:

Note, this doesn't necessarily mean they will all go 4-12, but they definitely could IMO:

- Bills

- Browns

- Texans

- Chiefs

- Dolphins

- Jets

- Raiders

- Titans

- Cardinals

- Falcons

- Lions

- Packers

- Giants

- Vikings

- Bucs

- Redskins

- 49ers

Thats more than half the league that i think could go 4-12/5-11. This isnt a prediction as i am sure that some of these teams will surprise this year (how could they not..i mean the whole league cant go 4-12). My point is that it seems this year, more so than any in recent memory, offers a wider disparity between the have's and have-nots. Since free agency, i cant think of another year that offered so many potentially bad teams. thoughts?

Obviously, this means that the other half will go 12-4. :) Seriously, there's a fallacy in thinking that every one (or even most) of these teams will suck on toast. IIRC, there's generally only 2 to 4 teams that are ridiculously bad (i.e., sub-5 wins). The statistics gurus could probably tell you how many wins would constitute two standard deviations (where 95% of the teams fall). Realistically these teams are gonna play each other and scrounge up enough wins amongst them to have a lot of them around 6-10/7-9/8-8.

ok, maybe i should have emphasized that i KNOW they all wont go 4-12. I did take statistics in college and i realize this is a near impossibility (is that a word?). My point is that i think any of them could go 4-12 or 5-11.

As for the Jets, i am definitely not buying the hype from last year as i think they won a lot of their games with smoke and mirrors. Remember the Dolphins from 2 years ago? From 9-7 to 6-10

The Bills, Jets, Cardinals, Bucs, Redskins, and 49ers do not belong on this list at all. Some of them even have a shot at winning their division.

 pundits thought the Saints would suck last year, too.

they also thought Jax would dominate in 2006, and that the JETS would be average at best. They also predicted big things for the Giants, Philly, Redskins were the hot pick to be a sleeper team ( they slept right in to a coma)....

Surprisingly, I agree with Switz on just about all those he mentioned. :)

I noticed that you listed all teams in the NFC North except the Bears. While the Bears may very well sweep their divisional games, by default, the rest of the division probably couldn't all end up on this list, since they'll at least beat each other once or twice. I could forsee them all splitting their matchups, so they would at least end up with 2 divisional wins alone.

However, I think this will be a better division this year. Aside from the Bears, they all have some suspect defenses, although I think the Vikings & Packers D will be better. But the offenses will be able to put good points on the board. Minny should have an excellent ground game, Favre still will chuck the ball around for his usual 3800 yds and 20+ TDs (although with just as many INTs). They could both end up around 7-8, 8-8, and I think Detroit will win some shootouts, cause they should have a very good offense this year. I could see them easily around 6-10 to 8-8 also.

Not that these are good records; just not 4-12.

I'd take SF off that list as I think they will have a pretty good year- maybe be the type of team that comes from nowhere and gets into the playoffs.

- Alex Smith showed improvement last year and now has some legitimate weapons to work with.

- Vernon Davis is healthy

- Added DJax

- Gore has proven he can be an elite back.

- Solid offensive line.

- The defense is improved with the additions of Michael Lewis and Nate Clements.

- I believe in Mike Nolan- maybe its the suit thing, but I buy into him as a legit NFL coach.

ok, i will give you all the 49ers...they probably dont belong on there and even i winced as i typed that in. BUT, i am almost positive that 1 of the remaining teams mentioned by Switz (Bucs, Bills, Skins, Cards, Jets) will go 5-11 or worse this year.

Bucs - aging, questionable D, big ? mark in Garcia - Agreed though that the BUcs are possibly the best of Switz's 5

Bills - They suck...i dont care what you tell me...they are bad. Losman is not good, never will be. Lynch may be ok, even good some day, but right now, behind that o line, sorry.

Skins - 1st year starting Quarterback, enough said. Not enough? How bout the new Fred Taylor at RB, a midget WR1, and basically a bunch of fat-cat aging vets on D

Cards - Exciting? Yes. Losers? Yep. Sorry, i just dont believe in D Green. His only true success was at Minny when he had arguably a top 5 all time offense. he doesnt have that here in AZ

Jets - Man-genius will have to approach Einstein levels this year to reproduce the W's from last year. Just like a new, hot QB gets game planned after a few starts, so too does a young coach with new ideas. I know, that guy in NE outsmarts them all, and Dungy has built success everywhere he's gone. But, combine the league figuring out the 2nd year coach with a weak, no...WEAK offense and i just dont see it happening.

I'm 100% sure i am wrong on some of that...but i am also pretty sure i am spot on for at least 1 or 2.

Actually, 32 teams COULD go 4-12. Indy could lose Manning, Addai, Harrison and Wayne to injury and finish 4-12. The Bears could lose most of their defense and keep Grossman as their QB and finish 4-12. Anybody has the chance to go 4-12 until they win their 5th game. By the same right, every team in the NFL can go 12-4 too. Its a great system.

I don't think Dennis Green is going to be much of a factor in AZ, especially since he no longer coaches the team.

It relates to QB play. I don't recall there ever being a year where there's been so many bad QB's in the NFL.

Um, the Cardinals belong on any 'They Could Suck' list.
