Examining Charles Sims (1 Viewer)

Here is a player who was making some noise early on (in camp) then went under the knife for ankle surgery. Due back sometime after week 8. Doug Martin has been unimpressive and the guys "supposedly" behind him have underwhelmed as well. Has drawn comparisons to Matt Forte due to his catching ability. He was also handpicked by Lovie and company. Fresh legs, excellent opportunity, could eventually force the issue when he returns. Excellent dynasty hold IMO and could help guys in redrafts looking for a cheap playoff contributor.

Well, except for the ankle.

Should be healed by the time he sets foot on the field. He has had all preseason and will have 8+ games to heal up. Dynasty - definite hold. Redraft, a closely monitor.

Drafted him in my dynasty in the middle rounds. He certainly has a great opportunity. His ceiling is a pretty good starter, maybe a step-below all-pro level. And his floor is a guy who can come in off the bench (maybe an efficient bye week starter) who can rack up the catches. Should be fantastic for PPR purposes regardless of his spot on the depth chart.

If Sims is healthy, he'll be given every opportunity to have a role. (likely as passing down back this year)

He was already ahead of Rainey as passing down back before injury. Rainey's already lost 3 fumbles in 41 carries. So bypassing him won't be an issue. And Martin's been lackluster since the beginning of 2013. I've never been a huge Doug Martin guy but I think he's a better than what the stats show & should remain the guy (unless he keeps averaging 2.1 ypc :) which I don't see )

Sims is a rookie who broke his ankle about 8 weeks ago. The timetable on that injury is 12-14 weeks. He might be around for the last few weeks of the season to get some "see what you can do" work.

Charles Sims Is Making Positive Strides Towards Early Return

In August, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were dealt a punishing blow to their backfield when their 2014 third-round pick Charles Sims broke his ankle during a team practice in the preseason. Initial reports indicated that Sims would stand to miss anywhere from 12-14 weeks after undergoing ankle surgery. At best, the Buccaneers were hoping to have their running back out of West Virginia anywhere from the second week of November to the end of the month, but it looks like he may be coming back sooner.

As spotted by Jenna Laine, Sims is already getting in some work on the field and cutting, which supports the claim made by Bucs general manager Jason Licht, who said that he was “way ahead of schedule” and could make his debut when the team takes on the Cleveland Browns on November 2.

Given the struggles of Doug Martin, who is averaging 2.5 yards per carry this season, Sims could make a case for the starting running back job in his debut game. After all, this is the same guy who received a comparison to the great Matt Forte by his own head coach. If that doesn’t get you excited about what this kid can potentially offer when he gets out on the field, we don’t know what will.

Crap, I have Martin and Rainey. This is going to put me in a tough position.

I don't want to wait to long on him, but can't carry three backs from the same team.

Better drop Rainey and Doug then.

That report sounds wayyyy too optimistic. Just saying. Rookie RB getting a chance to close out the regular season as starter? Shut the fffront door. He'll get the typical "welcome the the NFL" baby reps when he gets back with main work as the pass-catching back. The job is his to lose next season, but this season seems unrealistic. Strong hold in dynasty but don't see it as a strong redraft opportunity.

I never watched him play in college. Is he a three down back or just a COP? Need a scouting profile on him. Anyone know where Waldman ranked him?

3 down back. He is over 6 feet and over 210 I believe. Has good Hans and runs like Forte.

He was picked in round 3 in spite of bucs having a healthy Martin and Rainey.

They had plans for him.

To tell you the truth, I'm more interested in his Franz.

Disagree. Coaches feel he is the next Forte and better fits the tedford offense whatever that is.
One note - Tedford probably isn't coming back to the Bucs ever.

http://www.pewterreport.com/lovie-throttles-any-possibility-of-a-tedford-return-this-year/

I, and others, had wondered about this because the players drafted didn't seem to fit the type of offence Tedford wanted to run. Some have speculated there was a riff behind the scenes and that's why, aside from the health issues, Tedford won't be back.

So an offensive coordinator who spent the prior off-season working hand in hand with newly hired head coach Lovie Smith and had a front office spend their entire draft on offensive talent is faking a health issue to avoid doing something he has wanted to do his entire life? That's pretty thin.

Nope, apparently didn't bother reading what I said and posted (I said Tedford was faking a health issue? smh). Based on what Lovie's said, and what beat writers are hearing within the org., Tedford isn't coming back after his health issues resolve. Is it possible this is because they never expect Tedford to get healthy? Certainly possible. But there have been questions about the plan of this team for a while. The FO drafted players that didn't mesh with what we knew of Tedford's scheme. For example, Tedford repeatedly empahised that he wanted "speed in space" and looked to the Packers and Eagles offences. Instead, the Bucs drafted and signd guys that fit the 2013 Chicago Bears.

At this point, no one in Tampa expects Tedford back this year or next. I (and others) are speculating that there was a riff within the organization.

Bucs RB Charles Sims (ankle) is practicing Wednesday.
Barring any setbacks, Sims could return in Week 9. He's a candidate for the Bucs' third-down role when healthy.

Had him on IR for a while now, thought he was the best "IR guy" out there at the time so I used my IR roster spot to stash him. This is a pleasant surprise if he plays. Wasn't planning on seeing him in action for a few more weeks.
