Explain PayPal (1 Viewer)

I don't believe in ckecks or credit cards, so how does one go about setting up a paypal account? I do have a savings account at my local bank. Explain the best method of setting up the account.

Its like a bank account. You put money in, you can receive money for a fee. You can pay certain people with paypal. Dont know why you just wouldnt have a good ole fashioned bank account with a visa check card though :lmao:

I am absolutey in dismay about a comment like this. You don't "believe" in checks or credit cards? It's one thing not to believe in stuff that doesn't exist (a reasonable Liberal), but quite another to not believe in stuff that is real and common place. You may not feel comfortable with writing checks or using credit cards --- but that is no basis for disbelief.

(yeah, snog me for being too literall --- unless of course he really doesn't believe in them).

I don't believe Europe really exists because I have never actually been there.

My old boss used to not believe in checks and credit cards. He also didin't believe in computers and the internet and email either. He is now 62 and out of work.

I think one of the early posts covered how it works so I am going to get off topic. I think I heard around draft time someone talking about how qwerky Mel Kiper was. I believe he also does not use credit cards or checks so very similar to the topic starter. Kind f an odd tidbit about Kiper.

Banks charge overdraft charges, withdrawal charges, quarterly charges, yearly charges, they'll even charge you for walking through the front door. Credit cards charge interest, charge you for even having a cc. I'd rather have cash and not need it than need cash and not have it. You can go ahead and pay for your checks every time you turn around,... but not me. I'm a big fan of the money order. Cost of a money order is thousands times better than a bank charging the pee out of you.All I want to do is enter a Fantasy football league where the only way to enter is paypal. I'm not going to argue about why you love to pay bank fees and I don't. I also had $300 dollars in a bank account when I was a kid, the bank changed names years after, and when I went to see about my account(years later), it was GONE!. I DON'T believe in checks or credit cards,...it's a money scam.PERIOD.

In my day we only played one game, stare at the sun, and we LIKED it! And back then I wore an onion on my belt, it was the style at the time...

Not anymore. Some even give you a little bit interest on a free checking account.

LOOK AT ME! I KEEP BOATLOADS OF CASH UNDER MY MATTRESS!

What god forsaken bank to you belong due that you get charged all those fees?

My 1 book of checks that lasts 3 years >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> money order fees and effort everytime you need one

And overdraft? well don't do that.....

The only time I'm ever charged a fee is if I hit an ATM that is not my bank.

You say you have a savings account? How do you get your money? Isn't there a fee if your drop below like 500 in savings?

But to answer your question - you link paypal to your account. It does electronic transfers and will put money in and out of your account.

That being said I think you need a checking account to be validated

 Settle down, Francis. Let's unwad the panties and step into the 21st century... where banks offer free checking with free checks and ZERO weekly, monthly, yearly, decadely, or centuryly fees. In fact... a lot of these checking accounts actually PAY INTEREST! Amazing concept I konw.

Then there's those debit cards (zero fees) and obviously dont' charge you interest.

Credit cards only charge you fees or interest if you don't pay your bill on time and you actually have to TRY to find a card that charges an annual fee anymore... 90% don't.

Btu you keep living in the dark ages paying fees for yoru money order while the rest of us enjoy our free chceking accounts, debit cards, and credit cards.

PS: Paypal charges something like 3% or cash transfers. Have a nice day.

Paypal is a way to pay for things online by using either existing funds from a checking account or credit card. Not sure you'll be able to participate.

My bank (Regions Bank) has free checking, free checks and a free visa debit card linked to my account. Free ATM withdrawals at all Regions ATMs. The only way I get charged for anything is if I overdraft.

Money orders are $2 each at my bank. I'm sure I could get them for 50 cents at al ocal gas station or western union, but if I'm paying my mortgage or truck payment or something, I'm not comfortable walking around with that kind of cash into a gas station or western union to buy a money order or cashiers check.

It's really not expensive at all bro to have a checking account.

PM Me your info. Then send me a money order for the $300 league entry fee plus a 3% processing fee, a $3.00 convenience charge and a $12.00 transfer fee and I'll gladly paypal the $300 over to your league for you. ;)

Money orders can be stolen and cashed by anybody with no repurcussion. No, it looks like the only way for this to work is for you to drive to Paypal's headquarters and hand them your cash personally.

I go to the Post office for a MO. It's $1.00 + tax= $1.09+ a stamp=.39. All of my local banks charge out the yin yang for checks. You have to buy them, and they charge for every little thing you can think of. I don't like to pay ppl for holding my money. I need to join a ff league, if it's not possible, so be it.

No way. Seriously, no way do ALL of the banks charge that much. List the banks in your area.

Clearly you are insane. Let me break down my free checking account for you.Yearly fee = FreeChecks = Don't need em, online bankingPay my bills online = FreeSend Bank Checks to actual people not companies online = FreeI pay 0.00 for money orders, 0.00 for stamps, 0.00 for gas. Its all done from the comfort of my "smart" chair. Clearly you sit in a "Dumb" chair.

PayPal needs a bank account to "link" to your funding source. Go to PayPal, sign up, give them your bank account #, and presto. When you send funds via PayPal, it will be deducted immediately from your bank account. Any funds that you receive via PayPal will stay in your PayPal account (giving PayPal the opportunity to make money off the interest).

Come on man, this is all a scam, surely he doesnt believe in this.

I worked with a guy who didn't believe in this stuff either. It turned out several years earlier he got busted for writing bad checks.

You pay $1.50 more than I do to pay a bill. On average I pay 20 bills a month. Most of them are paid either online or via direct debit or debit card. I don't even know when I bought a stamp the last time. With your fool proof method, I'd be paying $250 a year not counting the pain in the butt of standing on line at the post office, driving to and from the post office and not to mention the added inconvenience of having to cash my payroll check and walk around carrying that kind of dough. I have to think you are kidding brother. Seriously.

Simply put, if you follow the rules, none of these charges should apply. Every charge/fee you mentioned is easily avoidable if you are willing to learn how to do it.For a checking account, get a no fee checking account. If you have a job and can direct deposit part of you paycheck to the account, they treat you even better.

For a credit card, there are tons of cards with no annual fees. At a minimum, I would recommend having a credit card for emergencies and convenience/safety when traveling. For instance, if your car breakdown on a trip and you need to rent a car in an emergency, it's much easier to secure with a credit card and putting down who knows how much of a deposit with the rental car company.

Also, your example from your childhood is a savings account with onerous fees. Yet, a savings account is the only one you have at a bank.

You don't NEED to join another ff league. What you DO NEED is to get on board with a checking account. These guys are trying to be nice to a fellow FBG but you are making it reeeally tough. Seriously.

The problem with paypal is they take a cut everytime a payment is made via paypal to one of your buddy's FF leagues and they charge you to use ATM's so you really are not avoiding any of those nasty bank fees you speak of.

I don't believe in have written bad ckecks or and my credit sucks so credit cards are out, so how does one go about setting up a paypal account? I do have a savings account at my local bank. Explain the best method of setting up the account.
