Exterior Light Glass- spray/coating to make less fragile? (1 Viewer)

Is there such a thing?   Think of it like a phone screen protector for the glass on your exterior light fixtures.

Scenario...Have 8 nice outdoor wall sconces all around the house in various spots (each side of front door, back patio, etc) .

One of them is to the side of the garage which is near our driveway basketball hoop.    You can probably guess....ball bounces up on accident and smashes the glass cylinder.

It's happened twice now in the past 3 weeks.  I found a resource for the replacement glass but at $23 a pop, this could quickly become an expensive fixture to keep looking good!

My first instinct is to call the place and ask about a similar looking cover but made in plastic.  Guessing that will be an unsuccessful conversation though.

My next thought is....is there some sort of spray coating out there that creates a protective layer on glass so it's not so fragile?

You could buy some sticky clear plastic and cover the light, which would help. But the main reason that the glass is breaking is because it's not adequately secured to the frame of the fixture (which is basically how the fixture is designed).

I found a place online that sells clear acrylic tubes.  I think I'll just get the right size width tube and just cut it down to size.  Use that for the summer and then can swap out the real glass for winter
