First a little history, but not too much......In the past I have ran multi-sport leagues and for the most part they have been successful. The main selling point of my leagues is that we draft the starting lineup of each league as 1 giant draft. This kind of draft is not for everyone, but I have found that most enjoy it. Also I usually try and create some form of balance throughout the sports, for the most part this has been great, so I have once again created some balance, but there are some areas that I did not keep the balance I normally would of because in some sports that became a bit too weird. Also at first glance you might say my league is on the extreme side, because of its size...but I have simplified it considerably from my inital planning stage. For example in football I like IDP and the 2 qb format is growing on me..however I soon realized if i went that direction it would create a sort of imbalance to the league as a whole and would possibly divert interest. Anyway this league is a compilation of what I have done and learned in the past with what I have always wanted to do....so for those of you have played in my leagues before, you will see similarities, but also some differences, which I hope are improvements.
Now let us talk about the league----I know some of you have played in multisport leagues, but most likely it was 3 or 4 sports only. (I did see a 6 sport league earlier this year) Mine consists of 8 seperate parts and 7 sports. I split up baseball, to maintain a balance I wanted to keep. The 8 parts are baseball batters, baseball pitchers, basketball, football, hockey, golf, nascar, and tennis. Having 8 parts has also led me to call this the Spider Fantasy League....and I am leaning on requiring team names to have a spider theme to theme.
League similarities---each starting line up of the league has 10 starters. While all parts are head to head, 4 are scored roto style (basketball, both baseballs, and golf) the other 4 are points based ( Nascar, tennis, hockey, and football). I couldn't really do all roto style and I have found it hard to recruit with points based for some sports, so I went with a balanced 4 x 4 split. Each roto league has 5 scoring categories.
Baseball batter starters---- catcher, 1b, 2b, 3b, ss, 3 of, 2 util. Roto categories--- run, rbi, sb, total bases, avg.
Baseball pitcher starters ---- 5 starters, 3 relievers, 2 either. Roto categories--- wins, saves, strikeouts, era, whip
Basketball starters ---- pg, sg, g, pf, sf, f, 2c, 2 flex. Roto categories---- pts, rbs, asts, stls, blocks
Golf starters ---- 10 pga players. Roto categories--- final placement, driving distance, fairways hit, greens hit in regulation, # of putts. Also because of the uniqueness of the game, golf scores are averaged as per round. and the average of all participants is averaged.
Nascar ---- 10 drivers. Point Scoring -- 90 points to winning driver, then 2 pts less each place after, 10 pts to top qualifier, 5 to second best, 10 pts to all drivers who lead any lap, 10 pts to driver who leads most laps. Average of all drivers is taken.
Hockey starters ---- center, rw,lw, 2 choice, util, 4 defense. Point Scoring--- goal 1, short handed 1.5, power play goal .7, assists .5, .1/-.1, penalty minute -.05, goalie-- shot against .06, goal allowed -.6
Football starters ---- qb, 2 rb, 3 wr, te, flex (rb,wr,te) pk, def. Point scoring--- pass td 4, td 6, pass yard .o5, run/rcv yard .1, catch 1 fg 0-39 3, 40-49 4, 50 + 6 xp 1. Defense sack 1, int 2, ff/fr 2 pts allowed--- o-2 10pts, 3-7 5pts, 8-13 3pts, 14 plus 0pts
Tennis starters ----- 10 players (you can have both male and female) point scoring win round 1-4 16 pts, win qf 24 pts, win sf 32 pts, win f 64 pts. Also 32 bonus ts to any non ranked player who reaches 4th round and 16 bonus pts to anyone ranked 17-32.
Bench---in the past I said all leagues had to maintain a certain size, that reduced trading in aleague like this..so for this one i am gonna say each team has a bench of 45 players. We will hold bench drafts prior to each sport, just remember you have only 45 spots for all 8 leagues.
Now if your still reading...then possible you are interested so now I will spring the cost on you....I prefer pay leagues, but affordable pay leagues. This league will cost $50 total and if you don't mind my entree will be free. This is because there will be a bit of manually tracking for golf, tennis, and maybe nascar. Anyway this will give each sports champion $50, and our overall champion $150. Assuming we get 12 which is my wish, though we will go with 10. Basically each owner has 9 areas to win money in.
The initial draft will take place about 2 weeks after the last person signs up, because I want everyone ample time to prepare. It will be a slow email draft and I know the hollidays are coming up, please don't worry about that I will be leinient during those times.
So once again if this interests you...let me know. My email is raymanning@hotmail.com
