Facebook disabled me. Any help? (1 Viewer)

My Facebook account was disabled suddenly two weeks ago. I have had it for 16 years. I was accused of selling guns and drugs. I don’t sell anything, certainly not guns and drugs. I have googled and read on Reddit but there seems to be no recourse. Anyone have a suggestion or knowledge or a connection to Zuckerberg?

I know it may seem stupid. But this is how I shared information for my homeschool community and had regular contact with lots of people and groups. In real life I’m fine and my family is fine and my kids are fine. But my digital life is destroyed.

I even got a new email and started a new account to try and rebuild. But the ai figured out it was still me and disabled that account.

I'm sorry to hear that. I have no idea what to do. All of my content is gone. All of the photos I posted in my groups of the graduations, proms, co ops, events, etc is all gone. Nothing lasts forever. I won't even know if a hurricane is coming! I guess I will have to pay good attention here!

The issue that Facebook is a private entity and effectively the content you put on there becomes theirs to control to an extent. I would consider contacting their admin or submitting some sort of grievance explaining that you were hacked and asking to see if they could send you back the photos at least, but beyond that I'm not sure what recourse you have. It's kind of like if Joe just decided to nuke this forum without warning and somebody like Tim wanted to be able to access all his in depth threads that he likely spent real, hardworking hours to compile.

My family keeps a private digital photo album for this reason.

I understand that. But there is no way to submit a grievance or ask for help. I have written to the places I have read about. I can't ask for help from inside the platform because I can't get into it.

I suppose that is possible but I have no idea. It said I was, then told me to appeal, so I did, then it said I was and now I am disabled permanently. It took all of 15 seconds. No human was involved. And it never showed me what I was accused of posting. And like your friend, I would think someone of my friends would have seen it.

And then a few weeks later she got reported for something that wasn’t even clear, tried to fight it and permanently got banned.

She was able to open a new totally different account with a different email for now at least. But Meta (Facebook) doesn’t give a crap. Everything is automated and they don’t care to spend the time and money to do anything except run a cursory crappy AI check and boot people. You literally mean nothing to them and it doesn’t hurt them a bit to ban you. Everyone should keep that in mind with how much we invest into out social media presence

They insinuate on that page that you can log in (which is interesting) to dispute. Seems like you can't log in if it's suspended/disabled. If you can create another account or maybe IG you might be able to reach someone that way. I saw on Reddit some people used Meta Verified but that costs $.

That’s what I’m doing now. I also asked a friend to use their meta verified to see if they can reach them. Also my state rep aide said he would call our state atty office. That’s another thing I saw on Reddit.

I have personally noticed some of my friends getting an @so-and-so new account and sending me weird **** under their name. Somebody probably took out an account like that under your name and was using it strangely. Sister, you done got hacked.

I belong to a FB group for one of the large all-inclusive resorts in the Yucatan. All of those big properties down there have fan sites that are not run by the resorts. The other day, there was a discussion in the group about where you can smoke/vape on-site since Mexico has recently instituted some of the harshest anti-smoking laws in the world. One of the site admins jumped in and said FB notified them that any posts with the words "smoke", "smoking", "vape", and "vaping" will be removed. I'm guessing their AI has those terms flagged as "political", but it's so tone-deaf. It's a legitimate concern for both smokers and non-smokers.

I'm not active on Linkedin- have an account, work-related, that I only really look at if I'm actively looking for work or if somebody contacts me about work or reaches out as a contact in professionally related industry. Have a handful of friend contacts as well.

I've never posted anything there, but I get occasional notices that one of my contacts has- sometimes I check those out.

Recently, I checked one of those out from a person I'd never met who is a steel contractor or engineer. it was full on FB-style discussion with scores of folk... comparing Fauchi to Mengele, Biden to Hitler.

I poked around a little elsewhere (after deleting that contact) and noticed a lot of the same.. granted not as extreme. Trump this. Biden that. or otherwise non-professional related. I don't care about your trip- I didn't when you posted it on FB and sure as **** don't now. Still some folk discussing... you know- WORK- but a ton of the rest of that FB kind of crap.

It's still useful for me in terms of maintaining professional contacts- but given that people are idiots, I don't see the "professional" part lasting much longer.

read upthread- our good friend had her account hacked, which then proceeded to sell stuff to people, including people she knew who assumed it was legit... because it was her account.

cash in hand seems the obvious way around this- until somebody hacks your account without your knowledge and scams your contacts.
