**Fake Scarcity Mixtape Draft #1: Tuesday picks 12 & 4PM EDT (1 Viewer)

3.20 Dr. John - Right Place, Wrong Time (US state-Louisiana)

It features a wonderful growling vocal performance from the inimitable Mack Rebennack, funky backing from The Meters, first rate production by Allen Toussaint and a stinging guitar solo by David Spinoza. It reached the Top 10 in 1973 which says a lot about how much the music industry has changed in 40 years.
I  Dr. John's music.

Current Autoskip: Binky the Doormat, JML, Groovus, Mister CIA, Ilove80s, El Floppo, Hov34

If El Floppo's autoskip, I guess I'll go - could probably get a reference to just about any drug/alcohol from this album, this song is one of my favourites for combining the party/drug/alcohol references with all the religious imagery, and of course who doesn't love Holly/Hallelujah?

I saw him at the riverbank.
He was breaking bread and giving thanks.
With crosses made of pipes and planks.
Leaned up against the nitrous tanks.
He said take a hit. hold your breath and I'll dunk your head.
Then when you wake up again.
You'll be high as hell and born again.
3.17 - The Hold Steady - Banging Camp - Drug reference (Nitrous)
sunnava.

it's always amazing to me that with categories this random, I still get sniped.

Hov34 on autoskip.

Here's a song for NV to sing in a comically broad Essex accent

4.02 Sexuality - Billy Bragg - sports team reference (Red Star Belgrade)

I had an uncle who once played

For Red Star Belgrade

He said some things are really best left unspoken

But I prefer it all to be out in the open

All other songs that mention Red Star Belgrade are now officially off the board.
lol

I feel like I've gone through this exercise before, but don't remember this one. I went through a big, but short Billy Bragg phase. always happy to hear his tunes now.

4.8 September Richard Strauss (the Elisabeth Schwarkopf performance)

I believe that is the end of September (I hope I didn't over dip on it).

4.5- 2nd Hand Girl- Shocking Pinks (fuzzy ferner... New Zealand)

always loved this tune. and hobbits.
Really didn't see New Zealand going off the board this early. My country short list is getting shorter.
I don't know why sometimes I get frightened.
Actually, I just wanted to do something special for all the ladies in the world with my next pick. Boom! I guess it's back to business time for me...

I've got two back-pocket tunes for the "less famous solo artist from a more famous band" category. Please, fellow drafters, don't take them both.

Anaggrams of the artists' names:

- LONG DEAD FAN

- TOM, THIS MY *****

I may take a song released last week in this category....

These drafts are always a learning experience. For example: I didn't realize how many bands had siblings in them, there were a couple bands I thought were from the US but were in fact from England :bag: , and how many songs about drugs don't actually mention the drug.

Now I am off to find up and coming bands from Swaziland so I fill that category at the end of the draft.

Molly - Tyga

(Drugs - MDMA)

On the draft where we picked disco songs, I learned that "Knock on Wood" by Amii Stewart was writen by Steve Cropper of Stax records fame. I had no idea.

The last one is not too surprising because for a long time, overt drug references meant no radio airplay.
