Falcons And Bengals Game Thread (1 Viewer)

so if turner is slowing down, do we really think rodgers has what it takes to carry the load? can ATL homers enlighten us on a darker horse that could become the bellcow if and when turner falters? tia
when u're all done watching the game, thoughts on this? it's a good question, so far I haven't read any rave reviews about quizz being a every down back kind of a player.eta: nevermind, there is a quizz thread just below this thread with three pages of info.

Ya. Just bumped it. Perfect late pickup.

I don't follow the Falcons, but I think a lot of people are forgetting about Jason Snelling who's hurt. Obviously he's not great, but he'll still factor in when/if healthy.

I think Quizz could be successful in this new offense if the first unit preseason numbers continue into the regular season (34 Ryan passes to 8 Turner runs).

Matty Ice looks like he always does to me. Like a REALLY good QB. Not a great QB. I think the thread predicting a top 5 season from him are a wee bit overblown.

I am not a big believer in buying guys because of the preseason, but last year I owned a lot of Falcons on my team and I watched them a lot. It used to make me vomit in my mouth when Matty Ice would try to throw the deep ball. (It looked like he just threw it up and yelled 500 and hoped one of his guys would catch it) The few deeper passes he threw tonight looked good, he looks like he worked on it in the off season.

I agree. I think some people are hating just to hate.

Ryan's got a lot of factors going in his favor. The potential is definitely there.

He's going to have to prove it though before I invest too heavily. He's been underwhelming to date and it hasn't all been a function of gameplan and supporting cast.

Pre-season isn't going to do thing to change my dial on him, which means unless I can get him in a range his past performance dictates...i ain't going to get him.

Yeah man I'm just a hater saying he won't be top 5. I forgot preseason game stats matter. Andrew Luck will be the #1 QB this year. The rookie quarterback wound up 10 of 16 for 188 yards with two TD passes and a quarterback rating of 142.6.142.6 Passer rating. Two TD passes. More Yards... Luck is so much better than Ryan.

Thanks for that inside info, I just went to my dynasty league and offered, Brady, Mccoy and my 2013 first rounder for Luck. I just hope he lets me rip him off

Thoughts:

1)Hope people sold a year early vs. a year late on Turner. I thought, even this year, he would be valuable due to TDs but he looks like a 5th wheel out there. Even in TD heavy leagues, I'm starting to think his yardage will be a liabilty. No way they are going to let him carry the ball enough to compile the yards. Has the looks of a lot of 11/32/1 type days this year. Its points, but leaving some off the board compared to previous years.

2)I think the Quizz role will be a lot like the Colts Addai but watered down. Addai could do things that I doubt they will want/let Quizz do (will be a role reserved for Turner and Snelling). Definitely more value than last year, but aside from the occasional big play that leads to a nice FF day, I don't think the consistency is there to talk about him in terms of Sproles and R. Bush and guys that get that type of production.

3)This passing game: On one hand it excites me because Ryan looks so much more in command. But in the back of my head, I think Ryan hasn't progressed; this is the direct result of the presence of Julio emerging, Douglas playing, and having Roddy and Gonzo. All this super quick drop spin/fake spin, hit the slot or seam stuff...I attribute it to the athletic pass catchers every bit as much as the QB. It looks great right now but I think it comes with two caveats:

A)Two games against the Ravens and Bengals...these are not strong secondaries. Both have an achilles heal of being susceptible to the big play. So I'm not sure how much has been ATL and how much has been the opponent.

B)I hope this doesn't create a situation where Ryan becomes dependent on his receivers great athleticism vs. continuing to work on his own improvement. That's really a "picking nits" statement but I think its important for him and the team and their success.

I'm a Falcons homer but this had me cracking up. For the record, I think Matt Ryan will finish in the 2nd tier of QBs this year assuming his weapons stay healthy. I think Michael Turner will have value where he's being taken and Quizz will end the year with 600-700 yards and anew TDs - not worthy of the hype right now. Julio is for real but #2 WR is a bit presumptuous at this point - like him better a low end #1 and Roddy will be right there with him - both in the 1200 yard range with 8 or so TDs. Gonzalez has goal line value and short yardage value. I keep waiting to see him with a bubba franks stat line of 2 catches for 2 yards and 2 TDs.

Falcons are improved but who knows what happens later in the year.

Ryan has always looked good in the no-huddle. Never understood why Mularkey would take us out of it after it worked game after game. Glad he's gone.

Take Mularkey (the previous OC) into account. He still doesn't know what a screen pass is over in JAX. The new OC is running those in ATL.Still don't like Turner with a FB. It's like 95% that you are going to run the ball.
