Falcons reach principle agreement w/ Grady Jackson (1 Viewer)

The Falcons late Tuesday reached agreement in principle with unrestricted free agent defensive tackle Grady Jackson on a three-year contract. Jackson, 33, is scheduled to arrive at the Falcons' complex on Wednesday for a physical examination. If there are no problems, the giant-sized tackle will sign the deal and immediately add much-needed bulk and a top-shelf run-stuffer to the undersized Atlanta defensive front.

In addition to Jackson, the Falcons in recent days discussed the possibility of signing free agent defensive tackle Brentson Buckner, released by the Carolina Panthers this spring.

Signing both Grady Jackson & Buckner should really help the Falcons run defense. A d-line of Kerney, Coleman, Jackson, and Abraham...

if grady can keep his weight down, he can be effective. are the falcons running a 3-4 still?
He lost 30 pounds, Falcons a 4-3 (thats why I mentioned the d-line of Kerney, Coleman, Jackson, and Abraham). Brooking is solid, Hartwell needs to play better, and Boley is pretty solid as well.

Explain this. Everyone is talking him up as a nose tackle.
Explain what? Kerney & Abraham the ends. Coleman the undertackle, and Jackson the nose-tackle. He weighed in at over 380 and now he's like at 350 something.

When Grady wasn't sucking wind in GB, he was VERY effective.

The Falcons can't run Lavalis and Coleman out there every down, with Kerney and Abraham, teams will just handoff all day.

If he is under 360, he is their best run-stuffer, without a doubt.

dont they have demorrio williams in there somehwere?
He was starting last year at WLB when Brooking had to move to MLB w/ injury with Hartwell. With Hartwell back, Brooking moves back to WLB and Boley keeps his position at SLB. Demo is a playmaker but undersized, he'll be in most nickel situations.

Yeah, Grady had a career year last year. 74 tackles, compare that with Lavalais who only had 17 tackles.
