It looks like the Saints are staying in NO for the time being and the NFL announced that the Superdome will be ready for week 3.

Thumbs down?! That's great news...The Saints bring $$ in to the city and it is a big pick-me-up for the many fans...

I kinda doubt anyone would give it a thumbs down if it were their city having this happen.

lol at "the many fans"
Lol at the misinformed, like you...The Saints have one of the most loyal and rabid fanbases in sports. They've got 1 playoff win...ever....yet manage to consistently sell out the SuperDome. Their fans deserve better than the years and years of ineptitude they've gotten, and CERTAINLY better than to not have at least a chance to support them again. They are as much a part of the city as the Patriots are of Boston and the Steelers are of Pittsburgh...the team just hasn't had the success.

But since ESPN doesn't tell you about all that, guess it's easy for ya to just assume something wrong...

bagger is the absolute perfect example of ignorance about the Saints.

Yeah, this city and state has gone through hell, and has a lot of serious work to do, and should have no professional sports to enjoy until all the rebuilding work is done. What are you an orphan nanny? The Saints belong to this city, and the city wants this team as a piece or normalcy.

And your comments about the fan base are just plain dumb.

they do? :link:
You need a link to tell you that NFL teams generate jobs and revenue to an area? How about all of the Superbowls that have been played here? Don't forget all the millionaires living and paying taxes in the state. Don't ya think that they bring in a little cash?

bagger

The Saints are #10 since they came into the league in average attendence and that's with a winning percentage under 35%.

Also, if you knew anything about New Orleans (which you obviously don't), you would know that a large part of the NO economy is tourism. The Superdome being back in business is a HUGE deal. You know, that big building where they've had 9 Superbowls, multiple Final Fours, a pope visit, Presidential candidates nominated and hundreds of rock concerts, car shows, boat shows, and conventions. Yeah that one. It looks like a big mushroom.

Anyway, that building is pretty important and to have it's #1 tenant back playing in it with the NFL kicking in $20 million to have it renovated and fixed, yeah, it is a big deal.

I wouldn't put too much stock in what Bagger says about N.O. He's just pissed about LSU winning the national championship a few years ago.I'm not sure why. Having the 2nd best team in the country for three years in a row is pretty impressive. He should be proud of his Trojans, not mad at us.

Get informed. The Saints had a sell out streak of 36 games through their last season in NO. This was to watch some very mediocre football and under constant threats to move. After each season ending debacle the team would set records for season ticket sales. The team ranks in the top ten in all time attendance per game and it's in the top 2 in attendance per win.

If you don't believe me read this NY Times article...

New York Times Article

Even so, the Saints' financial performance has been exceptional. According to two former front-office executives, the Saints under Benson have regularly been among the most profitable teams in the league, despite operating in one of the smallest markets. Although the books are closely guarded, Forbes magazine estimates that in 2004 the Saints made almost $43 million on $175 million in revenues, making it the eighth most profitable team in the league.
The monies going to repair the Superdome are from insurance proceeds and aren't allocations of funds from any other source. This city needs a morale boost more than any other and screw you for trying to punish us further.

Hooray for the Saints and kudos to the NFL for finally starting to get it right.

I'll have to think of making the trip down to see my Bengals if the schedulemakers cooperate and make the game post-election day.
