Wondering what everyone prefers for team defense. While team defense is the most popular most owners that have tried IDP highly prefer it. Most IDP owners prefer 7 but is 4 a better compromise? Wondering what you guys think.

I voted for 7 IDP, even though my league starts 9 IDP (3 DL, 3 LB and 3 DB). The more IDP, the better.

I would NEVER play in a team defense league again.

Do you prefer 9 to 7? Do you find it difficult to keep up with injured players? For example I started DL Jason Jones in my championship game last year. There was zero information anywhere that he would not play in his game that day. Thanks in advance for your opinion.

I love having 9 IDPs, although if it were up to me I would break it down more specifically like this:

3 DL ... 1 DT and 2 DE

3 LB ... no change

3 DB ... 1 CB and 2 S

The owners in my league don't want to change it, so we'll probably keep it like it is, but I really like the idea of the specialization.

I haven't seen a problem specifically with injuries to defensive players. My experience is that their injuries are kept just as secret as those to offensive players, although it seems that defensive players try to "tough it out" to play, and an injured defensive player seems to produce better than an injured offensive player who decides to play.

I forgot to ask before ... why the flex spot? In most scoring systems, isn't a LB going to score a lot more points than a DL or DB? Pretty much guarantees the flex spot will be a LB except maybe on BYE weeks.

for the guys who play idp, how much more time would you say you spend on FF with idp rather than just the team defenses?

thats the reason i don't play idp. i spend so much time on FF as it is, im afraid i won't have time for anything else if i double the players i have to worry about

Our scoring system is pretty balance (a big play league) most owners still start a LB at flex but starting a DB or DL during bye weeks or if someone is injured is pretty common. Also owners seem to love having the flex position on offense and defense.

I don't think it takes anymore time at all. You should already know the stars and it gives you twice as many players to root for during games. I start N.Suh G.McCoy L. Timmons D. Ware J. Beason E. Reed and P. Chung. I would think most starting IDP players are already known to football fans. I don't think I have ever met someone who has played both formats that prefers team defense.

Team defense.

Adding 4-7 more rounds to our draft sounds like a perfect recipe for alcohol poisoning.

Voted 7 IDP, but we use 8 in my league.

2-3 DL, 2-3 LB, 2-3 DB. Which essentially is 2/2/2 with 2 flex that have to be in different spots.

Most of the time it becomes 2dl/3lb/3dbs, but with 40 man rosters most of them are offense, injuries/byes sometimes require a 3rd dline.

I'd like to make it 3/3/3 but for some reason being forced to start a 3rd dline is scary for the other owners, as most only carry 3 anyhow.

After doing IDP for the last 2 years, I greatly prefer that to team defense.

I don't find myself spending too much extra time due to the IDP, but I suppose it is a tad more, maybe 30-45 minutes a week. Generally just reading anything Bramel writes. If you're in an IDP league and arn't familiar with Bramel's work then I feel very sorry for you.
