We discuss ethics when it comes to tanking, bad trades and collusion, but what should you do when you think you're probably going to drop a league next year?

Presume you can be active throughout this year and the reasons for dropping have nothing to do with the league. Also assume you're not completely sure you will drop.

Do you play for this year, and other than trading picks, could go after older guys at the cost of youth?

Do you act like you're coming back?

Do you let the league know your intention?

Do you just tell the commissioner at let him decide what to do?

I would continue to make moves as if I was still in it for the long haul, especially if I'm not completely sure that I'm bailing. But I would contact the commish and see about getting out now, if there's an orphan buyer available. It would be tempting to load up on veteran studs at the cost of future draft picks, but that prize money or trophy wouldn't be able to buy my conscience.

Full disclosure the best option - tell the commissioner and see what he thinks - as long as you don't do anything bad in running your team you both should be fine

This situation is exactly why deposits should be made before trading future picks. If that clause were in place, you could proceed as normal without trading future picks, and your plan next year would not matter. In that case, I'd let commish know and just play it out for 1 final year. You could still trade youth for established, but future picks being moved around greatly impact the league.

I would trade all my picks away for startable vets, trade any young prospects that i dont think will help me this year to try to upgrade my starting lineup and make one last run for the glory

i've thought about quitting one of my leagues for years but every year i re-up. You can play like it's your last season but i probably wouldn't totally tank the future.

I'm in this situation. So far I've remained mainly true to my strategy but have made a few moves I wouldn't usually, they've all been solid value though. Eg

1.6 & 2.6 for Forte and 2.8

I wouldn't try and ruin a teams future in an effort to win though

I would think the fairest thing is to advise the commish first, and then the league. Their knowledge of the situation would help you keep your eyes on the future whether you're there or not.

I believe this is where the OP could wind up, even though it might not have been his original plan..

Forte is kinda up there in RB years, so I would believe some Guru may cringe.

But I think you could ask yourself how sure a thing are the top six players? Its tough imo, I could possibly envision someone trading w me for instance IF I believe my team has a shot!

The question for Gurus would be: Should I have considered gambling extra picks to move up ie. Sammy Watkins Then would it be okay to try an also include Forte?

Bottom line Id suggest reading a few Dynasty charts if trades are imminent. To error is human in so many words. But if you can truly envision the value...

Please don't post the best guy in your League is a Packers fan and asks for Rodgers every Season But seriously Id enjoy reading more on the dilemma.

p.s. Im pretty sure Adam already nailed the thread unless of course the Owner were leaving due to being owned. If due to Ownage, I would suggest speaking w the Commish asap
