Fantasy football conventions (1 Viewer)

Just wondering if anybody knows if there is such a thing. It would be cool to have a national convention for league managers to share ideas. It would also be a cool way to start up more leagues across the country. People who have dominated their leagues for years (not me) could even start their own league which would undoubtedly be hyper-competetive. Just a thought.

Giving this more thought here are some things I came up with.

Canton would seem to be a natural national convention location with the Pro Football Hall of Fame there.

A good time to have the convention would be July or early August.

Could have seminars/speakers to present strategies like the Stud RB Theory, VBD, Stud WR Theory, etc.

Also have leagues to sign up for to do actual drafts.

Naturally there would have to be a charge for all of this. What do you all think? Is there something like this out there?

Never heard of anything like that.

I went to a sci-fi/comic convention once. It was at a hotel (pretty much the whole hotel was filled) and it was cool. Lots 'o drinking!

I live 30 minutes from Canton and I think it would be a cool idea.

If you had it at the right time of the year leagues could hold drafts there. That would be cool especially if your league is spread across the country and everyone could meet there.

Maybe you could have FF experts there as well. Also, seminars for people new to FF or a seminar on IDP or something.

There are fantasy sports trade conventions, but they are more focused on fantasy sports business owners/entrepreneurs wanting to enter the fantasy sports industry than they are for leagues/league owners.

Fantasy Sports Trade Association held their spring conference in Chicago this year - FSTA Events - I attended the fall conference in August of last year but was unable to make this year's spring event due to scheduling conflicts.

I don't think anyone not into ff allready would fly/drive a long ways to go to a convention. I love fantasy football but I would never go to a convention in canton, maybe vegas just because there is other cool stuff to do.

Thanks for the info. When fantasy football magazines start to come out I'll be checking to see if any of them have conventions. I like the idea of trying to get real NFL stars to show up, that would be really cool. When the mags come out I'll also start creating a list of "experts" who could do seminars. Just seems to be a natural event for such a huge business/pasttime. I've never organized anything like this before so if such a thing already exists that would save a lot of work trying to reinvent the wheel. If there aren't currently any such conventions I think this would take at least a year before it could be organized, if not a couple (like for the 2008 or 2009 seasons).

Good point. Could also set up regional conventions. Vegas would be a good site also.

Why not just go to 1) World Championship of Fantasy Football (WCOFF) in Vegas or Atlantic City on first weekend of the season, or2) National Fantasy Football Championship (NFFC) in Vegas, Chicago, New York or Tampa Bay on the previous weekend. You can compete in many different leagues; meet the BEST players in FF; talk with people who publish some of the best FF magazines; play in auction, Draftmaster, or the main event drafts, or just watch and learn about the biggest FF leagues.

Um...because that would be too easy, duh! Seriously, thanks for the heads-up. Those sound exactly what I was talking about, thanks for letting us know about them!
